Kinda hate to see him go. He was at least fun to watch and the perfect backup. I'd rather have Taylor than Andy Dalton.
Exact opposite for me, give me Dalton as a backup |

The fans' obsession with Heinecke is a peak symptom of Ashburn syndrome. Just because he lucked his way through a few wins, doesn't make him a good QB. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
I don't think it's an obsession, maybe for some. He's fun to watch, the players seem to play really hard for him and he has actually won games around here. Plus he can use his legs and move around. This is the NFL. You generally don't luck your way into wins.
If I was the actual GM would I go over what he got from the Falcons? Probably not. But whatever vet they bring in I would also draft another QB in the mid rounds. |

RG3 prime was fun to watch; TH was being in a the passenger seat of a drunk drivers car. Sure it is "exciting" but you're just waiting for the eventual crash. I call it Little Mac syndrome. Everyone wants to cheer for the under dog but in the end the game is named after Mike Tyson. We need a Mike Tyson at QB not Little Mac Tyler. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
BTW. whatever happened with Erik Flowers? Still out of football? He played well for us a LG.

Yeah it’s weird. Seems like he is willing to stop playing due to not being paid enough. |

The goal of the backup imo is to be able to hold down the fort while the starter is out. I think TH more than did that during his time here. When he had to play for long periods of time he obviously got exposed, like most back up QB's do. |

And so he's willing to accept not being paid at all. So odd. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Yall leave little Mac out of this he is a legend. Taylor brought some wins to this team and did some good things and plenty of bad. He was better than a lot of the other qbs fielded while he was here. If Rivera wasn't an asshole and started him vs Cleveland we win that game. Or even pulling Wentz before halftime I still think we have a shot. The guy got it done with less than the best arm, football iq, etc etc. He was fun to root for and the best we had at the time.
Glad he got paid and will root for him if he takes the field in ATL. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
@TomPelissero
The #Steelers agreed to terms with former #Commanders LB Cole Holcomb earlier this week on a three-year deal pending physical, per source. Holcomb, 26, has started 48 games for Washington. A big addition to Pittsburgh’s defense. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Barton and Holcomb seem pretty similar, don't think we're losing much
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
basically almost same player but what we need is another starling outside Linebacker to pair with barton and davis some fairly good ones still left
|

They only play 2 LBs so what they need, like last year is better depth players. I think Holcomb is a bit above Barton, especially given his familiarity with the players and scheme. Barton has only really played for one season but they have him on a fully guaranteed contract so he cant/ wont be cut if he looks bad in camp or preseason |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Per Keim:
With Taylor Heinicke gone, these three QBs are high on Washington's list: Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew and Cooper Rush. Ok, who you got? I think Brissett is my choice |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Brissett easily for me.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Brissett, Rush, Minshew in that order.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Brissett
|

Keim has said they are interested in bringing in another LB and are talking to one. Said Cole contract demands were high |

It is kind of understandable for Holcomb wanting to get paid, a 3rd round pick with his first and probably best chance to get FA dollars. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Darius Slay being released.... interesting but wants a big deal in all likelihood. AJ Browns reaction lol
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
holcomb was a 5th round pick

Yes, of course , must have been thinking about the new guy. Same point holds though |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Anyone know what Holcomb got from Pitt? I wonder what it would have taken to re-sign him. He generally played pretty well for us.

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
John Keim on Twitter
As expected OL Tyler Larsen has agreed to a deal with Washington, per source |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Additional details on the deal. Brissett is a massive upgrade over TH:
@JFowlerESPN The Washington #Commanders are signing QB Jacoby Brissett to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million and $8 million guaranteed, per source. Washington gets a starting option for a quarterback who played well for Cleveland last year. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Ian Rapoport on Twitter
NFL international pathway star Efe Obada has agreed to terms to return to the #Commanders on a 1-year deal worth up to $3M, source said. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Yep, for me it says they won't pursue a QB in the 1st. BPA in lower rounds maybe, but reaching in the 1st, or worse, trading up doesn't make sense. If Howell is a wash, Brissett can at least hold the fort then we go hard for a QB next draft.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Another day of solid moves. Getting Brissett is crucial.

Must be running low on cap space by now, wonder if they will be making moves on some existing veterans

This is key. Not really in love with any of them anyway and this really opens up the draft. Oline ILB CB S TE If we play our cards right in the draft we can have a pretty complete team with some solid depth. We don’t need a washed up mentor like Dalton we need a guy who can actually play (possibly start) if Sam gets injured or looks bad in the preseason. I don’t think he will but injuries you never know. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Can't argue that JB is an upgrade over Taylor. Real solid move. These guys are doing pretty well so far this offseason.
For all you TH haters, he had a 12- 11 record here as a starter. :-) |
