no we can't rely on TJ, not really. I don't know that we have a choice though. dhall/winfield + davis seems like the best we can do in FA at this point, and drafted players are never reliable producers in year 1. (yes, you can get studs like griff or alfmo, but there's no guarantees anyone you pickup is going to produce on schedule/cue... otherwise hankerson would be our unquestioned #2 and moss would be retired right now).
i think have 2 good safeties (TJ, BM) and a better pass rush (rak) will REALLY help the pass D. we still need a corner though. dhall or winfield will do, I imagine we'll be drafting 2-3 DBs regardless.

and i still want davis back. that's part of the 35+ points a game we're going to need to score until the DBs get there stuff sorted out.
I think at least one rookie will be the starter in the defensive backfield at the start of the season. Maybe even two by the end of the season.

The redskins relied on a lot of free agents to start for them last year... Didnt really work out. I think free agents are as reliable as draft picks at this point.

Speaking of counting on things that you really can't count on, if Crawford really develops in year two, he could really change the outlook of our secondary.

Is there any way to sign both Hall and Fred Davis to 3 year deals?
That would be great...keep in mind, we'd have to cope with Hall as a starter for 1 yr, but that is it, maybe move him elsewhere afterwards...unfortunately, he seems to only do well at CB with sideline help and isn't terrific in space...but I don't see many other good options.
Jim irsay is saying its a WR. They're in Arizona. Could it be Fitzgerald? Maybe but I don't think so. Steve smith? Nah too old, plus Cam has no WRs as is. DeSean Jackson? He isn't a huge deal in terms of what Iraay was hinting at. Calvin johnson? Nope. Roddy White? Nope. Stevie Johnson? Maybe. There is actually a good chance of this happening. Hakeem Nicks? Maybe but that's only if they don't have enough money to sign...

Victor Cruz. That's who my money's on. They probably signed him to an offer sheet and when Irsay says they've been working on it for the past 5 days its probably because its been 5 days since they signed him to the offer sheet.
Nicks is under contract till next year,Cruz just change agents and has(or had) a new waiting period his new Agent is Condon same as Eli's,expect Eli to restructure and sign Cruz

True, although at least we weren't signing any of them on big money deals. If you spend $30 mil guaranteed for a starter and they suck, then that really screws you. We've just been bringing in a collection of cheap guys who all have the potential to step up and be a starter. At least I think that's their theory...

Highly unlikely.

First of all. free agency isn't over yet. It is very likely that we'll sign a veteran CB to start opposite Josh Wilson.

Secondly, the situations of Brandon Meriweather and Tanard Jackson (the two projected starting safeties last season) are unknown at this time.

Thirdly, nobody knows if the Skins will even draft two DB's, much less who those players might be and what positions they might play if the Skins draft any of them.

Beyond that, the odds of any 2nd or 3rd or later round DB starting in his rookie year are exttemely low.

Exactly. How about we count on our own guys instead of a free agent. Crawford did get time last year and held his own.

Mike Shanahan has repeatedly said that he believes in competition and his actions in acquiring players have proven it.

Right now the Secondary is set to struggle immensely(again) if we dont have a good draft. We need to draft at least 3 Secondary players...no less.

Depending on Minniefeld, Tanard Jackson is absolutely the worst idea ive heard on this board all year. Even thinking Brandon Merriweather can be counted on after major injuries last season is very naive.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

So why haven't we talked to Brent Grimes? He is a top 10 CB when healthy, he just came off an Achilles injury (so his money value goes down) and he's been on the market still after 5 days of FA (Value should go down again) I know we're tight with cap money, but I feel like he could just squeeze in there.

Also speaking of FAs coming off an Achilles injury. Why haven't we worked out a deal with Fred Davis? Whats the hold up? Is it still the cap. Fred had what one interested team (Cleveland?) and hasn't found it as a fit. He wants us and we want him. Lets make a deal Fred. This is getting ridiculous.

Dear Chicken Littles,
Repeat after me, "We were a healthy RG3 away from kicking the crap out of Seattle, and that was without Orakpo, Carriker and Meriweather. We were a healthy RG3 away from kicking the crap out of Seattle, and that was without Orakpo, Carriker and Meriweather."

We'll be fine. More than fine.
