I would think the longer FA goes, the more the team will save on costs. If the FO has people in mind for DBs and they know interest is low why rush.
Because there are few decent CB options left. Check the FA lists. The law of supply and demand says that the remaining good ones will not necessarily come much cheaper than the ones that signed before them. |
I can almost guarantee that they will draft at least two defensive backs seeing as right now our only real starter is Josh Wilson, and it is not out of them realm of possibility that a 2nd or 3rd round rookie could start seeing that it happens all the time.
Simply put, your plan would be too risky. Do you want to take a chance on regressing from a 10-6 record and missing the playoffs this coming season? I don't. The idea is to get better, not to rely on the chance that rookie CB (whoever that may be) can perform adequately at a starting CB spot. The worst (and possibly best) case scenario at this point might be to re-sign DHall. That way, we're probably no worse off at CB than we were last season. |

Simultaneously, load up on DB's in the draft. In this way we've looked after both the short-term and the long-term. Then we can hope that Crawford or a rookie can develop enough to make significant contributions this year, which would make this plan even stronger. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
If we bring back Hall we are not improving as a secondary. In fact its more likely we are taking a step back at the CB position.

That's exactly what I'd like to see. |

Returning Hall and drafting in the defensive backfield, to me is not taking a step back. More of a lateral move with the hope of hitting in the draft. CB and FS are our most pressing concerns at the point. A RT would be nice this year, but with the cap penalties we are screwed. When you think of both Volmer and Winston sitting out there not garnering any interest, it just kills me to think that we could have a great offensive line if we could just get some of our cash back. BUT that is never going to happen so F*$K YOU Goodell. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I agree, bringing back Hall, who played solidly last year, is not a downgrade. It would actually help the team's position financially because he'd have to come back with reduced pay, freeing up some of our precious little cap room for some reinforcements around him.
I'd love to bring him back to play FS. I think he'd excel in that role as a ball-hawking centerfielder. There are plenty of quality FA CBs not getting signed yet. We'll get someone before the draft I bet. Starting Wilson with a good FA CB and Crawford/Minnifield at nickel will be more than adqeuate. Then, we should draft more secondary. If Meriweather, Minnifield and T. Jackson can stay on the field, that will go a long way towards improvement. If we're so thin that we're down to Pugh and Bernstine again at safety, we'll be screwed again. |

We do have Rak, Carriker, and Merriweather returning from injury, and had Madieu Williams and Reed Doughty starting for the most part last season. Having a rookie DB start isn't the risk you make it out to be case in point Casey Heyward, Jarius Byrd. We don't have to re-sign Hall to vuld on next year. We should do that with the return of those three key defensive guys. |

As far I remember, it was one game, against the Eagles. He played into the 3rd quarter before falling untouched with a torn ACL. |

How? I mean hall is better than Josh Wilson or if not they r equal. Crawford is unproven, and who knows with guys down the depth chart. Hall isn't going to make us better but he certainly won't make us any worse I don't think. I'd rather have him than winfield at this point |

Lmao sorry but his knee injury while hitting Robinson was freaking hilarious but not funny at the same Time |
