This research has documented previous self reporting dating back several decades that shows conservatives are happier than liberals. It does only tell a portion of the story. You are going to be depressed if you view the social and economic inequality in the country as a problem. If you don't view it as a problem it isn't going to bother you.

Younger generations have learned to recognize and talk about things that are bothering them while older generations will internalize. However where do we see rising suicide rates? Middle aged white men that are far more likely to internalize than discuss feelings and seek help. They are far more likely to admit to depression, seek help but it doesn't mean they aren't.

Yeah, I’ve read it and Haidt, who isn’t a conservative but a 2-3 time best seller whose coddling of the young mind book should be required reading in high school. He’s well regarded. You should read his substack as he takes the research and is asking why. Goldberg from the times has written about it and came out with tech and social media, Matt Yglesias wrote about it with the research and said didn’t excuse it. Haidt has written about this long before this study, parenting and higher education is problematic.

Why the 2011-2012 upward spike for every category after straight lines for 10 years?…why are 56% lib women claiming a mental illness? Why are kids suffering from in a mental health crisis across the country?

One thing with Liberals that Haidt has pointed out is what he calls “Catastrophizing” of their issues. Example: the world is going to end in 9 years due climate change, not recognizing transgender people will lead too genocide, calling the police on people of color will likely lead to their death, Covid will never end and will eventually kill everyone, etc. His point is, if keep saying this hyperbolic statements (which most adults understand is political) in front of kids over and over, they will believe it. So what do you think will happen?

There is truth to this. Climate change is such a significant issue we shouldn't have to be hyperbolic about it. Like I said this data is on par with what we have seen from previous research. In terms of the spike there are myriad reasons. I do think if you look at the age a lot has to do with a specific focus by that generation on mental well being compared to previous generations, but you can also through political ideology in there as well. On a anecdotal level my sister is a fundamental baptist and very conservative. She can't pay her bills her outlook is faith in god. He will provide a way. Me and my socialist atheist outlook? I stay up at night trying to solve the problem obviously causes stress.

I like Richard Dawkins a lot. I think he is right on a lot of levels but we need to not discredit transgenderism. Parrot fish live in harems with one male and up to 14 females. If the male dies the alpha female turns in to the male, the lack of testosterone in the water elicits this change. Groupers shift sex based on age. Northern Cardinals, whiptail lizards. There are plenty of examples of transgenderism in vertebrates. Those genes are in us from an evolutionary standpoint even if they are dormant. There is not enough research applied to humans but my thoughts are that the hermaphroditism we see in wild species caused by endocrine disruptors from our medicines and plastics in the water way can easily translate to humans as well. It makes sense to me the rise of smaller sperm counts and testicles in human males since the 70s is tied to the rise of single use plastics.

[B]I am of the belief that there are only men and women. [/B]Typically this thought gets assigned as a Christian/conservative thought (and often in a negative light). People can share this thought across the spectrum, but people in some groups just might be hesitant to state that opinion out loud as much.

Every single long term study of teens with gender dysphoria have rates of 70- 91% grow out of it by adulthood. people who support children under 18 having sex changes, chemical castration, etc are just crazy imo

I know nothing about this guy other than what you said - but it sounds good.

I keep saying it, no doubt there are aspects of criminal justice reform that need to be examined and improved - but not for violent offenders. Nobody wants to see violent offenders back on the streets so quickly.

We need more prisons, not less. Probably won't get a lot of agreement with democrats here.

On the other front, I'm usually pro privatization, but I don't think it's a good thing for prisons. I don't want people to profit off of keeping people in jail who don't need to be there. Greed is a human condition and fucking with people's time on Earth is too risky to allow non-violent offenders to be there 1-day longer than absolutely warranted.
