Good stuff. I heard Pat Kirwan breaking down Mallet yesterday. He basically said he can make every throw, he can change protections at the line, and he knows when to take a sack. He's much more NFL ready than most prospects coming out this year.

Take away the character concerns and he's probably a top 10-15 pick.

I don't think Mallet does well under pressure, not like game on the line pressure, but pocket is collapsing pressure

Mallet seems to be the one guy we can safely rule out for the skins since his lack of mobility is a bad fit for the offense Shanny wants to run. Seems like an old school Gibbs QB to me...put a great O-line around him and watch him sling the ball around with that big arm. Then again that knucklehead rep of his would not have appealed to Gibbs though...

just have a feeling we're going with Locker. Don't know if it's good or bad, but I'm starting to read mocks where his perceived value is starting to climb back into the mid first. Going to make it less of a reach for us at 10. Would love to see Shanahan trade back, but failing that, I'd guess it's going to be Locker.

Good in my eyes...If the rumors of the Redskins liking Locker since last year are true then I don't see how any Redskins fan would be upset about drafting him at #10. Shannahan is the coach for the forseeable future...we know how fickle he is with QB's...if he likes this kid then we should want him to have him. Finding a young QB that Shanny likes and wants to work with trumps any other need the Redskins have. That is way more important then the defensive player or WR we can get at #10. It's not really about which QB's we like...it's about getting the one they like that they will believe in and invest the time in to build around. When the 10th pick rolls around on April 28th we are going to find out if all the rumors linking Locker to Shanny were true or not, because if they pass at #10 then their feelings for him were not as strong as we were led to believe.

I'd prefer that if we get Locker, it's because we've added more picks that allow us to get Locker and more. If we sit where we are, and take Locker i don't know that that's the best scenario. But if we pass on him and go for say Ponder, Ponder may not be there at #41. Which would force us to move up maybe into the late 1st for him.

In short, Locker is not choice #1 for me at 10. But maybe it's 1A. But that's my opinion, not that of the people that matter

Everything you say makes sense to me. However, if they like Locker enough that they are not even willing to risk it by trying to trade down to aquire more picks...doesn't that excite you as a Redskins fan?

In my eyes if they trade down and still get him later in the draft I will be happy but it will also leave me wondering how much they actually believe in him as their future QB. Basically my excitement about Locker is based on the rumors of how much Shanny likes him. If thats all just nonsense then I don't care all that much if we end up with him.

I'd bet if we don't trade down, it's because we couldn't find a partner vs. any sort of indictment on Locker.

I wouldn't rule out taking Locker at #10, but MS might prefer having his cake and eating it too by gaining an extra pick and still grabbing Locker later on. That's just smart drafting. Sure there are risks involved, but you don't win in this league without taking some risks.

I don't know why you were worry about Ponder not being there at 41. Look at Colt McCoy last year. 2010 as we know produced at least 2 quality QB's. maybe 3 if Tebow pans out. McCoy probably should have gone in the early second at least but dropped to the early 3rd because of concerns about durability. Ponder has those same concerns, in fact they're probably worse in his case.

On top of that McCoy had a much more storied career. Ponder's only advantage over McCoy is that he came from a pro style offense. Also, McCoy didn't have to compete with the number of QB's that Ponder has had to over the course of this draft process.

In McCoy's range, as it turns out his only competition was Clausen, maybe Tebow as well. Ponder has to compete with Kaepernick, Dalton, Mallet, and maybe even Locker.

Unless we take him at 41 it will be very likely to see Ponder fall to the third on draft weekend, and this is coming from someone that likes Ponder more then any of the other QB's in this class including Gabbert.
