Re: Game Coverage Sucks
SmootSmack, does ESPN get all this? Do they honestly listen to the criticism? Is there a way we can voice our opinions to them? What is the reason for having guests in the booth for a quarter talking about everything BUT football? No other network has a guest line up like that!
Personally, I thought the old Sunday night crew of Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire and Joe Thiesmann was fine.
Agreed, nothing wrong with that crew at all. ESPN is just too concerned with enterainment value and catering to the casual fan. |

Personally, I thought the old Sunday night crew of Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire and Joe Thiesmann was fine.
Yes we do of course. For one thing, there are much fewer entertainment guests this season. We also know that most “hardcore fans” think that MNF is something that belongs to them, and ESPN just happens to be airing it. And no matter what, people will always complain. They also always come back. The idea behind having non-football guests on is to create a bigger feel for the night, and draw in the casual fan. Also, it allows Disney to cross-promote across its different properties. They have this huge platform with millions of people tuned in each week so why not take advantage of it? This is a business after all. The problem, of course, is a poor job is done of promoting the game and the guests that will be on leading up to Monday night. So come game time, most of the casual fans you’re trying to retain aren’t even watching in the first place. There’s also a misconception that only ESPN does this, but MNF on ABC back in the 1970s had people like Ronald Reagan, John Lennon and even some Muppets in the booth. A few years ago during the Red Sox vs. Cardinals World Series (If I remember right), Budweiser bought advertising time on FOX and during the game Chris Myers would conduct “interviews” with that dude Leon. During NBA games, TNT will go into the stands and Chris Sager will chat with actors who may have movies or shows coming up. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
When the Redskins win a road division game, the coverage bothers me a lot less. I think that it would help if the director would have an iron clad rule to show the entire play. Last night there was a couple of times where they cut away from the booth just after the snap which really sends the message to the viewer that they are watching a male version of The View and that the game will be shown if it's convenient. I think that's the wrong approach, but like I said, as long as we win.
Yep, ESPN is all over Philly's nutz of course.
Everyone except Tom Jackson picked the Eagles. A lot of eggs on the face at ESPN tonight. :)
I was glad to see Tom do that, but I kind of thought, "I guess he drew the short straw." Another postive is Parcells. He referred to the Eagles as the Philadelphia Palantonios which I found funny for some reason. His banter with Keyshawn is enjoyable too. You can tell it eats him up to have a player giving his opinion about something on an equal basis. Like watching Bobby Knight listen patiently in the huddle as one of his players tells everone what he thinks they should do. More Parcells please. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I like Parcells as an analyst as well. I did back in his first stint on ESPN too.

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
I really don't have a problem with someone dropping in the booth for a quick visit, and I do like Barkley, but I just felt he was in there too long and it was like the game took a backseat while he was there.

Re: Game Coverage Sucks
i think the announcers do a great job calling the game.what i see is that all the announcers including the world's two biggest jerry jones asskissers in history, emmitt smith, tuna parcells have to say against the redskins.parcells was a great coach, and smith was a great rb,but when it comes to being analysists, they both stink.BTW,steve young ai'nt far behind either!

To be honest, I was some what excited when he said he'd be there because he's hysterical on TNT. But then he wouldn't leave, and it dragged on, forever, and ever, and ever... There was no reason for him to be there the entire 3rd quarter. |

It was like they were interupting Barkely to call the game, instead of the other way around. |
Re: Game Coverage Sucks
Im glad someone else brought this up. I was aggravated to no end. Charles was a basketball player. I do not care at all about his opinions in the middle of a Redskins Monday Night game.
Poor producing. |

Poor producing.
I don't care about his opinions during NBA games, they're usually idiotic. The only funny thing I thought he said was when Korny said the Eagles "should've won last week". Charles said "What does that mean?" Then Korn said "if they had caught 1 of the 2 punts, they would have won". Barkley said "if I didn't eat so much, I wouldn't be so fat". I hope he was joking about buying a house back from his mom for $1 so he could establish residency to run for Governor of Alabama in 2014. |

I mean, what the hell was that $1 comment all about. Even the sober people watching the game last night were scratching their heads over that one! |

He was asked if he was going to run for office again and he said that he purchased her house for a $1 so he would have a home in that state. I do not have a problem with him coming up for a few minutes if they would have made the game the focuse of conversation but they just went on and on and on and on and on and on >>>>>>>>>>> |
