Re: We need competition for Suisham
His leg looks much better so far. The 46 yard field goal cleared about 1/3 to half way up, and I've been shocked by the kickoffs. Most are going 2 to 5 yards into the endzone, much improved for Suisham!

That's GREAT news! |
Re: We need competition for Suisham
Suisham has power in his leg this year. My fear is that he will burn out before the season starts having to make every kick in every preseason game and practice.

He's only had 3 chances to kick and I think this season Suisham won't get on the field as much. He'll be fine |
Re: We need competition for Suisham
Maybe we could sign J.Feley to compete with him. For the vet min of course.:silly:

For some reason i just don't trust Suisham in pressure situations. Feely is coming off on of his best years. He won't be w/ out a job very long. |
Re: We need competition for Suisham
Some team is going to give him a contract which will make it impossable for us to bring him in for kicking comp. with Suisham.

exactly. he'll get handed a job somewhere. he's not going to come here to compete with anybody. |
I do not think FG% is not a big deal. I do think it is.
We agree on most everything here, and you make valid points. What I will disagree with is the kickoffs. We will kickoff approx 4-6 times a game. If someone is 10 yards shorter than another, that is giving up 40-60 yards per game. I think those yards are important. All in all, I feel like we agree on most cases.
Thats not always true. If a kicker hits higher shorter kicks they have a little more hang time for coverage to get down field so what maybe lost in distance the coverage team makes up with shorter returns. |

You're speaking in theory cause we all know that wasn't suisham. If he has the leg to kick it high and short, then he has the leg to kick it long too. Last year he did neither. |

If he gets burned out from kicking in the preseason we seriously need a new kicker. |

100% agree. Any kicker that gets burnt out in the preseason is useless and weak. That's what they do for a living, if they can't handle the preseason, how will they handle the regular season and postseason? The way he's reaching the endzone and appears to have a longer leg, maybe he worked out harder in the offseason to be more valuable to us. (thus the no competition brought in) At this point, I am mildly satisfied that he has developed more power, which is what I was seeking from our kicker. |

He hit a mid 40 yarder with ease and most of his kickoffs are getting to the end zone. No touchbacks that I've seen (I don't think) but they're getting in there. |
Re: We need competition for Suisham
It's not just kicking in pre-season it's making every kick in training camp.

It still doesn't make much sense. He's going to have to make all the kicks during the season and in practice as well. Should we worry about that too? There are plenty of kickers around the league that handle all the kicking duties in the preseason. |
