Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft
Well outside of Haynesworth I really don't see anyone that is "sick". Montgomery, Carter, Wynn, Goldston, Daniels and Griff are all serviceable. They play well together. Orakpo and this new guy haven't played a down yet.
Sick , didn't their mom's tell them to wash their hands ???? You are right about big AL being the only dominant guy , but Monty and Golston should be better in yr 3 , and Orakpo / Jarmon looks better than JT . Griff should be well rested / fresh . If we can run, the ball convert 3rd downs and get into the endzone more often , we should be in the hunt for the NFC EAST TITLE < ? > |
Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft
Well, well, well...I don't happen to think this is a "great pick"
It sure is easy to convince ourselves that paying a 3rd for a marginal mid rounder is a great thing. Bottom line...we didn't need to use this pick now and our pressing needs for picks are LB and Oline and potentially QB and RB... A 3rd rounder is key with all these roles, now we dont have one and we are pigeon holed into Oline for one of our only 2 top picks.....would I be pissed if we used a 3rd next year on a DE?....no...but I am unsure that this guy would stack up against typical mid round 3rd rounders. This guy may end up being nothing more than a backup. Maybe I am greedy but a 3rd rounder needs to be a starter in year 2 to be considered sucessful. That is a lot to ask of this guy....it is certainly seeing the glass half full. Don't let me be a downer....just drink the kool-aid and be happy. Its just funny that some of you were saying you'd be pissed if we used a 3rd on here and are now rationalizing how great it is. I am unhappy about using a 3rd on this guy...I would have even been a bit squirly about a 4th...but I think that would have been fair. I think the thing I am pissed the most is that we continue to go into drafts without our top 3 picks year after year. |
Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft
So in the last 7 drafts, we've had 3 third round draft picks:
2003 Derrick Dockery 2004 Chris Cooley 2008 Chad Rhinehart If Rhinehart works out, I guess Jarmon has got big shoes to fill. Hope he lives up to it. |

However, we still have the two best picks - at least we didn't spend one of them. Since we now have a surplus of defensive linemen as well, maybe we can pick up an extra (if very low) pick in a trade. |
Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft
I like this move. We are essentially redshirting him, I look at him as a 2010 third rounder that we get to have for an extra year to get a head start on his development. And if he actually gets some decent pt this season and gets off to a good start then even better.
Personally I think next year we need to pick an offensive tackle/guard in the first round, and sign a solid young free agent lineman. Furthermore, we need to see how the likes of Heyer, Rinehart, Jeremy Bridges, and Mike Williams are going to work out. Plus, I think between Scott Burley and Edwin Williams you are bound to find a diamond in the rough (since apparently Maryland is slowly becoming a good training ground for offensive lineman :) ) PS: I don't think this is a GREAT pick, but I think it is worth the risk. I mean look at Baltimore and how Jared Gaither worked out? (Maryland, hollah!) |

Also, We have lost a bunch of value with this guy since he doesn't have any playbook knowledge at all....he has lost some significant rookie prep time and knowledge |

Then he can work his way into the rotation. |
Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft
Kudos to the FO for pulling a ballsy move on an area of need. This guy could have gone on the 2nd round during next years draft, there's no difference getting him now than next year, he will have one more year of experience by 2010. This guy has the build of a Dexter Manley/Charles Mann (slightly shorter) and could be an impact player down the road.

LOL, this is why i dont like Madden coming out before the preseason starts. Never have the late additions.

Well you can always get them in the roster updates. :) |

Yes, but if we went into this season without adding any more DE's, we would be drafting one in the first 3 rounds in 2010 anyway. Add that to the fact that Jarmon had a great chance of being at least a 3rd round talent next year if he hadn't been ruled ineligible, and I'd say we did fine. I'm an SEC guy, and Jarmon is a damn good player. All-conference in the SEC means you can ball. |
Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft
So we traded our 1st in 2008, our 2nd in 2009, and our 3rd in 2010. Who are we getting for the 4th in 2011?
I am neutral about the pick, I like it just as much as I don't like it. I think it was a lot based on the pressure for Zorn and Vinny to get it done this year, which is what bothers me the most. I really want to know what other people offered. I know teams don't want to say what they did because then they can get judged for it, but I hope it somehow leaks out. |

If we wouldn't have given a 3rd, we wouldn't have got him. |
