If Kerrigan surpasses Orakpo, he will be entering rarified air among the very, very best pass rushers in the league. Each makes the other better since opposing defenses must account for both on every play. I would argue that they are as impactful a duo as Harrison and Woodley for Pittsburgh.

ON CALVIN JOHNSON. "Thanks for your column. It's not officially Monday for me until I've read it. Here's my question: Calvin Johnson was certainly unstoppable yesterday. I'm wondering why, on goal-line plays, coaches don't occasionally defend big receivers like Johnson with a big receiver from their own team? Doesn't somebody like Dez Bryant have a better chance of beating Johnson on a "jump ball" pass?'' -- Ryan Reed, Bowling Green, Ky.

Thank you for the kind words, Ryan. I hadn't thought of that strategy, but you could be right. In a Houston-Detroit game, for instance, I'd love to see Andre Johnson as the deep safety on a big play at the end of a game, to battle Calvin Johnson on a deep throw. I know coaches would shy away from it for a number of reasons, including fear of injury, but on the biggest play of the game, why not do it?

I wonder if with the rise of these tall dominant receivers (A. Johnson, Megatron, Dez Bryant), next offseason there will be a demand for tall CBs. Sometimes when these small CBs go up against a tall WR, it looks like a child trying to guard an adult.

Dez Bryant doesnt deserve for his name to be in the same sentence as A. Johnson and Megatron. Guy has done zero

Well you would have a point if we were talking about who is the best wide receiver this seasons or in the past couple of seasons, etc., etc. However, my point was to give examples of WRs that have the ability to go up and grab a pass at a point that it is difficult for a small CB to defend.

Kerrigan = big motor, Rak = big ability. Both are beasts, but my gut is Kerrigan outplays his physical talent by being smart / being relentless. Some of his plays are on second efforts and recognizing throwing situations, etc. Both in ProBowl for years to come.


More important than this argument is -- the success draft/FA. I'm VERY pleased at all the hits on our new players, as well as getting more out of the existing players. A far cry from seeing Portis sip cocktails with Snyder. The big misses on McNabb and struggles with Haynesworth are long forgotten.

If Shanny keeps this up, we're definitely competing for the SB in 2 years. Currently we're 3-1, but can't see us competing with teams like Green Bay yet - but with a better offense anything is possible.

Draft 2012 Priorities:

2) Oline - secondary

yeah, I agree with that, but not the order. I think QB and CB are more important than MLB and OLine. MLB is a need, but not a big one, with Rocky showing that he's worth keeping and the ageless london fletcher still there. I think we can milk out one more year with London. The only MLB I'd take is Burfict. Where as next year you have Barkley, Cousins, Foles, Robert Griffin, and Landry Jones coming out as your QB's. CB is a need, and there are some great CB's in this class as well. Cliff Harris of oregon, Gilmore South Carolina, Hosely of VT, Claiborne for LSU, Dennard for Nebraska, Jenkins who was on Florida but is now with North Alabama, and Dre Kirkpatrick.

yep. Face it the lowest he goes is #2 if a team like St. Louis picks first. He can probably tear his ACL or throw picks for the rest of the year and still be a first rounder. He's just that much of a lock. We'd have to lose out all our games to get him...and that still may not be enough. So yes I left him off for an obvious reason.
