He's a FA, and not likely in their plans at this point. Not a priority, that's for sure

She was his girlfriend at the time

Is he even going to be reinstated? It was a minimum one year ban.

Good question. 2nd time he's had this ban so odds are against him. But he probably will be.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
We need to start rumors about him so he drops in the draft. LOL.
First off, if you read this weeks SI, it said that he has a marijuana problem, along with a father who is in prison for killing someone. He's also having a kid in a few months. So right there thats 3 red flags on him. He got kicked off his team, so his stock has already fallen to the 3rd round, at best range.

Second off, supposedly he isn't that good in man to man coverage. I believe that his instincts make up for whatever 'coverage problems' he supposedly has. I watched him play and he was stride for stride with a WR. Sure he allowed catches, all CBs do. Sure he has a tough time with bigger WRs and TEs, but really, do you expect a 5-9 CB to be shutting down 6-3 TE/WR's? He'd be great against the smaller, quicker WRs. Like Welkers, amendolas and hawkins.

Third, Tyrann is a cocky player. I could see him easily returning a kick for a TD then all of a sudden he's the sh!t and becomes the "me, me, me; I, I, I" kind of player.

Fourth and final point, lets keep this to Free agents. I'll make a draft prospect thread once the bowl season begins.
I knew safety was going to be a big weakness for us in the offseason, I was very excited about the tanard jackson signing he is a true ballhawk, that being said safety will be a priority this offseason as well as cb coming in a close 2nd. My #1 option is Tyvon Branch who is an free agent after this year if Im not mistaken. He is fast and is can play sideline to sideline. We also need a fs that is a true ballhawk and has speed. I really think if we fill that void alone we are a much better team, but until then lets get merriweather back and see what he can do, he's from the U and has proven to be a player lets hope he can get back to that.
He signed a 5 year deal to stay in oakland

We must have different ideas of what red flags are

I'm not going to knock him for what his father did and I'm not going to knock him for having a kid on the way. Why?

punch it in 10-23-2012 11:53 PM

How is having a father in prison or a child a red flag?
Edit: not trying to be redundant. I didnt see SS ask you the same question but was wondering the same thing.

Child along the way, I think of guys like Antonio Cromartie and Travis Henry. It shows to me that he isn't smart. Now maybe he wanted a kid. But how the article put it, it made it sound like he was told recently that he is actually having a kid, like Surprise! Having a kid isn't a red flag; having a kid at an early age can be considered a red flag by some, especially when Tyrann has drug problems, how is he supposed to raise a child when he has his own issues, it shows immaturity to me. (Also having a child at a young age can show to me that he could be like one of those guys above who have over +7 kids by 7+ different women. Not saying he Will be like them, but you wonder what could happen down the road--head isn't in the game, trying to play for a big contract then becoming unmotivated when they get it, etc.) the child along the way, like I said isn't a major red flag, but its something that will gets scouts attentions and can be one of the many other flags that causes coaches to ultimately pass up on the kid. And as I mentioned above with how is he supposed to support a child if he has his own problems, that is a great transition to 'red flag' number 2....

His dad being in prison is bad, IMO, because after reading that SI article, I feel as though I was almost reading about a full family cycle. Father is a great Football player, father does drugs, father has a kid at an early age, father goes to prison for drugs, father gets out and kills a man, father goes back to prison. Son is born without his father figure, son becomes good at football, son does drugs, son has a kid along the way...the rest is TBD. Ask yourself this, would you rather draft the CB who has both parents or the CB who has a mother, but a father is in jail? The root of all this is that Tyrann didn't grow up with a father figure until later in his life, and that father figure made some dumb decisions, and those decisions are in part in Tyrann, Tyranns had guidance, but he's had the drug problem which is a huge red flag, just like his dad, whats to say Tyrann doesn't follow in his dads footsteps and wind up in prison down the road. Its just riskier to take someone whos missing an adult in their life do to being in prison, than someone whos lost someone because of a death. Also people will handle a parent being in prison and jail differently. I'm not a statistician on this kind of topic, but I've heard in the past about how if a parent goes to jail that childs life being altered, raises the chances of that child greater than other children.

Also these may seem like minuscule red flags, but a couple of red flags that cam out on Cam Newton "cocky, isn't a team leader, shows immaturity at times" didn't seem like 'red flags' at the time, but damn right now they are showing in full force
