Also, they could still holding out hope regarding the cap situation, or still contemplating going nuclear with a suit.
Ok, but if they do it now like everyone else then they add supply to the market and drives down the cost of players, theoretically. I just dont see why they would wait unless they wanted to keep these guys.

Didn't httr24_7 say they were making cuts tonight?

No need to make a move until you absolutely have to. They're dealing with a much more complicated situation than most teams.

I doubt there is an advantage to the team to release them early. Further, they can keep exclusive rights while Hall or Carrikers agent can probably gauge the market (without actual contract talks with a specific team) and see if they want to work with the Skins.

Ask it this way. what advantage does the team get from an earlier release?

Well thats my point, they must want them back. If they did not want them back they would have already cut them. Me personally think there is no chance they get rid of Carricker. The only way they do that is if they think his injury will hinder him this year. He is a bargain at wht he will be making.
From what I gather, all of these signings so far, except for possibly Jackson, will count as minimum deals against the cap this year. I think we will sign Davis and still be able to sign a Chris Clemons or someone like that. And Maybe a Greg Toler. But I am surprised they have not released Hall yet or Moss. I think if they were not trying to renegotiate those contracts they would have already cut them. It would only add to the supply out there, decreasing demand.
They can't be "minimum deals" because there's a signing bonus involved in all cases. But they should have small base salaries to start the contract, which does keep the cap hit low.

Or you could look at it as waiting longer to cut them will allow other teams to sign areas of need, meaning when we make our cuts those players have fewer options and may be more likely to come back and sign a deal with us.

well scheed, you can have a signing bonus as still be a minimum deal. but i think it's gotta be a 1 year contract and a 40k or less bonus, unless they upped it in the new cba.

obviously none or the skins signings so far would count for that. even the long snapper got a 4 year deal.

$40 K doesn't even register as a blip when it comes to an NFL signing bonus. Don't split hairs!

tell you what, i'd take a 40k signing bonus and be happy with it.

That's what I was thinking. Where do I sign? :)

Sounds like we cleared up about $2M from the Moss restructure. We also got $816,000 back from the NFL for unearned incentives from last year.

Per HTTR24-7 on Twitter we're about $4M under the cap right now.

Still need more room for the rookie pool and any additional free agents. More work to do.

Honestly, I'm cool with cutting Josh Wilson, London (even though they said they wouldnt) and giving new deals to Orakpo and Trent. Chester? I wouldn't cut him because he was better than Lichtensteiger last year, but Lichtensteiger signed a very cheap deal, and we have LeRibeus whom Foerester said is a starter, so maybe we should make the move sooner rather than later on Chester. Does Josh Morgan go? Its going to get interesting in the next 4 hours

I didnt realize this was the last year of Orakpo's deal. Now would be the time to give him a new deal, but i dont know what kind of deal we would give him that he would accept. From the teams perspective, he's been inconsistent and is coming off an injury. He and his agent no doubt consider him one of the leagues elite pass rushers. I dont see the two sides finding an acceptable common ground until he plays out the 2013 season (or atleast most of it).

I dont see any reason why Williams would WANT to restructure his deal. He's currently under contract through 2015 with enormous salaries in 2014 and 2015. I would argue his current contract is already more than he's worth.
