Baltimore has no say in it. It is all on the NFL and who has rights to the TV market.
The local stations used to have their pick of which games they wanted to broadcast. So, you're saying that has been rescinded and the NFL decides what they can broadcast? I didn't know that had changed. |

That's true, although the NFL doesn't decide willy-nilly on a game-by-game basis. Instead there is a formula in which the NFL eliminates tv competition for the "home" team yet remains fair to both Fox and CBS. It happens here all the time, when I get no other game because the Saints are playing, even if on another network. This situation drove me to get Sunday Ticket. |

I can not imagine him handling the Washington media for 1 press conference.
 Jay Gruden and this clown are night and day. I listened to the whole thing and it's really hard to like the guy. Granted, I'm a Redskins fan, but he looks like a guy that's difficult to get along with. Like I said yesterday, I bet Kelly loses his team's support if they ever start losing. Something I noticed right away is that Kelly is a gum-chomper. That sh*t really grinds my gears. I don't mind silent closed-mouth gum chewers at all, but if you're a chomper, GTFO. That didn't help my immediate impressions of him at all. |

Damn! Are you sure? I live in Queen Anne's County (ES) and I haven't been blocked. Well, I'm glad you'll be watching this week at your neighbor's place.
Look at the 506 map you should be fine. My buddy is from Kent Island and he said most folks are Skins fans there; especially when growing up. |

They are losing customers who would watch the game instead of turning the TV off. I might be in the minority but I'll be damned if I am spending a gorgeous day off from work inside for a team other than the Skins. |

No - the requirements only prohibit broadcasting the Skins game if Baltimore playing at home, at the same time as the Skins. If the Ravens are playing an away game with an NFC team at the same time the Skins are playing (home or away) an NFC team, Fox will understandably choose to broadcast the Ravens game. If an AFC team is playing an away game against an NFC team in a game that has playoff ramifications for the Ravens and at the same time the Skins are playing (home or away) an NFC team, Fox will understandably choose to broadcast the AFC v NFC game rather than the Skins. If the Ravens are playing away games against AFC opponents at the same time the Skins are playing an away game against an AFC opponent, CBS will understandably choose to broadcast the Ravens game. As far as I am aware -- IN CASES WHERE THE RAVENS ARE AWAY AGAINST AFC OPPONENTS, AND THE SKINS ARE PLAYING AN NFC OPPONENT, THERE ARE NO RESTRICTION PREVENTING FOX 45 FROM BROADCASTING THE REDSKINS GAMES. If I am wrong, please someone point out the policy. In this case, the Ravens are away against an AFC opponent and the Skins are playing an NFC opponent. As far as I can tell, this is a discretionary choice by the station. Ravens game. |

If local affiliates just chose to show what they wanted, there'd be no oversight of the Fox-CBS balance. There are too many $$$ on the line for either Fox or CBS to be happy with anything other than a 50/50 balance of games shown. I'm telling you, it is the same situation in NOLA as it is in Baltimore. And, if you keep the Fox-CBS balance in mind, it is entirely predictable. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Except, they have regularly broadcast Skins and Ravens games at the same time in the past. In past years, I always preferred weeks when Ravens played away because it meant I got four games broadcast. Consistently.
I know their are additional restrictions for "Game of the Week" designations but as far I can tell, there is absolutely no reason for Baltimore to NOT broadcast the game this week. In past years, this was a week I could count on watching the Skins. In fact, the few times they bumped the Skins in such situations it was because they were broadcasting a Philly game and claiming that a substantial portion of their demographic preferred the Philly game over the Skins. Honestly, this is either a conscience choice or something else out of the ordinary at work. (FYI - They are broadcasting American LeMans Racing in Austin Texas instead of football). |

And they do so in order to keep the Fox-CBS balance. Look here, you can see the whole season charted out in advance, without any input from your local affiliate: 506 Sports - NFL |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
That's just the listings of channels and the designated nationally televised games.
Follow the links for each week and the only one "mapped out" is the upcoming week. |

If CBS (or Fox) gets just one extra game, the other side will cry foul for the money involved. Doesn't this make sense? If I am wrong, how else do Fox and CBS keep the balance which obviously must be kept? Otherwise, I'm done with this issue. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
some of us have been talking about it since the leadup to week 1 :)
i just don't think we're as bad as 3-13 suggest. there was a lot of crap going on last season that's been removed. and honestly... the salary cap and the front office have loaded this team with talent. a lot of young talent. this year may wind up being mediocre, but i'm thoroughly pleased with the way they went about drafting and free agency. of course, wtf do i know.
Just having the Shananigins gone is an instant improvement imo. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
I do believe it is all strictly defined (JR being a lawyer, you would think he would like how precisely it's all worded)
This week, I believe the key is that it's an AFC double header week. Since that's the case and Baltimore is the early game and away, the Fox station is showing the 2nd game. Given the game choices, if there were discretion, I can't imagine Baltimore choosing SF-Arizona over Wash Philadelphia. Especially considering SF-Arizona is competing head to head with Denver v Seattle. I remember 506 used to have all the rules listed somewhere on there site, but i couldn't find it now. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
You are all probably right. I am just frustrated and would like to blame someone in this one-horse town for it.

I really had no clue of what a shitty situation that is for y'all. That's terrible, surprised nothing can be done. Write Snyder and the organization. |
