Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
I don't like any of our division foes. I must admit that I hate Dallas more because of their Bandwagon ass fans. I also don't like all the face time that Jerry ( scarry) Jones gets in front of the camera. 3 way tie for 2nd place , McNabb doubtfull for next game with KC. I think we can see that our divison doesn't have a clear cut favorite thus far. The G-Men have Red Zone issues like us and the Cowboys turn the ball over with Romo. The Eagles have injuries at QB and their defense gambles with the blitz which can give up big plays. We need to score inside the Red Zone and then see how our defense can play with a lead.
|
Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
Romo played like shit. Way too careless w/ the football. When is he going to stop turning the ball over?? Plus Dallas must have the worst secondary in the NFL. Eli is really starting to look like a top NFL QB.

Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
The Giants WR came up big time against Dallas. When will or 2nd year WR and TE get their chance to Sink Or Swim?

The G-Men could have easily blown the Cowpukes out of the water, which I would have liked to see. Their defense (and Romo) kept them in the game though, if this keeps happening they will be piling up the Ws.
The Giants WR came up big time against Dallas. Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
It seemed like several teams had Red Zone issues yesterday, the Giants couldn't run it in. SD had 3-4 trips, tried passing running etc, it seems like there was one other team (other than us), but Red Zone was a tough area yesterday

Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
It's official...our QB is better than the Dallas QB.

Horrible comparison IMO, NYG put up 33(7 from defense) on Dallas, SD put up 26 on Baltimore. We scored 9 points btw.....:). |

Thank God for our defense, and that we played a JV team in the Rams. |

Well I was making an observation, and both settled for a lot of FG's (NYG missed a 29 yarder). Everyone wants to b and moan, fine go ahead. But we got a W, 15 other teams, including Dallas and Philly didn't. And we beat a team we lost to last year. I'm not happy, but I'm not crying at my desk either. We put up 364 yds, we moved up and down the field. We stopped them, causing a turnover on a critical drive. The RedZone is the Redzone because its hard, and that was my point. but please go ahead and piss the win away. atleast at the end of the year we won't be looking back and saying we shoulda won against the Rams. |

People's reservations are horribly misplaced. The players did fine yesterday. Pretty much all of them. Sure, should we have scored more than 9 pts on the Rams? Of course. Are we struggling with a lot of the same problems last year? That's debatable. But underachievement in the red zone is only a necessary excuse if we lose the game. Yes, we had a poor performance there, but we won 9-7, and from the point that Avery fumbled on, we were never in danger of losing the game. Had the defense played worse than it did, we might have ended up getting upset. But that didn't happen. The defense did it's job, the offense didn't really do it's job, but we still beat the crap out of the Rams on both sides of the ball, which was more important than the 2 pt margin of victory. |

You heard that right. Most surprising thing in the game tape through the 8:00 min mark of the 2nd quarter (where I am right now). |
Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
There is a Redskins receiver who I will probably lambast for poor performance and it's not Santana Moss. I make no promises though.

I can probably guess who it is. I'm watching the game again right now myself and what's really striking me is that the offense seems to play to get to the red zone and then start over from there, as opposed to playing to get to the end zone (for the most part). Haynesworth and Griffin really had great games yesterday. Dockery's false starts were pretty disappointing, as was some of Moss' efforts blocking. |

Over the last 12 games or so, Zorn has made a slow evolution from run-first coach to pass first coach. The results are astounding, as you can see the progression of formations and mismatches that make the Redskins passing offense so effective. But when we get close to the red zone, it's almost like watching the old Zorn who thinks that, because his players got him there, it's his job to make sure he pays them off with a touchdown. And so, Zorn always leaves the script in the red zone and tries to call that one play that will make the Redskins' drive count. So you get comfort runs, screen passes, designed swings, and it just really looks like he is trying too hard. The HB pass seemed like a frusteration play. He doesn't seem to understand why the Redskins haven't been able to run the ball in the red zone since Week 5 of last season. And because he has no answers, I can understand why he thinks that the next run will be the one that works. But it's just not the case. We can get a yard or two on the goal line, but we can't pound the ball in from the 8 or 9. And the sooner Zorn realizes this, the sooner he'll make the necessary adjustments. But until he realizes that the calls in the red zone are a problem, I can't expect him to find a solution. |

I really believe the passing game there is for the most part, just not the part where it counts. |

Not fair. You need to give us some kind of a hint? |

Read Tripp's past posts (say you focus on a his comments about the 2008 draft) - I imagine that would be a big hint for you.

I know he supports Kelly just like I do, but I was nervous something might have showed up on tape. DT is a lost cause as far as I am concerned. If it's him I could really care less. |
Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
Not fair. You need to give us some kind of a hint?
Well, I want to see how the game progresses before I decide how relevant his performance is to the larger picture. In the first half, Zorn has been mixing his personnel so that everyone plays (I haven't seen Marko in the game yet, but I know he got some PT in the second half).
To this point in the game (8:00, 2nd qtr), the Redskins have only had one unsuccessful drive, and both passes on that drive were Campbell throwing to Kelly. So I need to see more of what is failing the offense before I pass judgement. |
Re: Around the League Including Tonights Giants/Cowboys
Anyway, here's a hint. On consecutive plays, the Redskins threw quick passes designed to go to their young receivers. Standard "50 game" passes, a WCO staple. On the first play, the receiver badly rounded off his route, and Campbell gave up on him about 3 seconds into the play, came over the middle and hit Sellers for 12 yards and a first down. On the very next play, the Redskins changed their receiver personnel and ran an incredibly similar passing play and this time Campbell stayed with his No. 1 target drilling him in tight coverage.
Against a competent defense, Sellers is probably covered and the ball would have to be thrown away. Because it was the Rams, Campbell created something out of nothing. I'm more concerned with grading Zorn's reaction to this development than anything else, but again, I haven't reached that point in the game tape. |
I must say, unless you have access to certain non-tv camera angles that only some people have then that's a big assumption to make about a certain receiver
Well, the assumption I'm making is what the route was, knowing only the release off the LOS and the end point of the route. But it's more about the progression and Campbell than what I do/do not know about what coverage the Rams where in.
Let me ask this back at you: are you suggesting that Campbell was going to pull off of said receiver regardless of whether or not he was open? Because, if so, that would be a much more significant development than what actually occurred. |

On the first play it looks like DT was running a 5yd Dig. Looked like he squared it off nicely. JC made the read at the end of his drop (under 2 sec) and went to Sellers. I think why he checked off was he may have pre-read Man and the Rams dropped to Zone. I think he could've hit DT, but he may have been concerned about the S making a break on the ball.
On the second play Kelly comes under a clearout route by by ARE, Rams look like a Cover 3 Zone here and Kelly is wide open (throw was behind tho). |
