I doubt we could get a third, but a 4th rounder is a definite possibility. At that price, I don't think it would be worth it. We'd have to move Orakpo to RDE on a full-time basis. Who would play SLB? |

Chris Cooley is nothing more than a 4th rounder, huh? Wow. Fail. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
We traded up to draft Cooley and we just gave him a new contract , so Cooley is not getting traded. Davis has shown he can play in this league and I think he will push Cooley even more to come back better than ever. We need both of them to make our team better. So no dont trade Cooley.

I agree with this. Keeping Cooley is a much better option then picking up some one in the draft that you have no idea if he is good, great, or very fucking bad. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I don' want to trade Cooley but if there's someone I would trade for, it would be Cribbs and converting him to RB.

Now, they may actually want picks and stuff. While he'll be helluva player, I think you'd need to give up too much and not be able to address other more important issues...like the offensive line. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
How long has Cribbs been in the league? Will he become a RFA or UFA?

thanks i just read the article on ESPN. His contract is terrible! He is by far the best player on that team getting paid the least!

Are you serious? We can get at least a second rounder for Cooley. |

He's a great special teams player, but I think we would be better off trading Cooley for a pick. We would be much better off developing a young guy. Plus it would be a lot cheaper. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
When this thread was first started we hadn't had a chance to see what we had in Fred Davis. If the team is convinced Davis can improve on his development, a 1st & 3rd for Cooley where do I sign?
|
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I'll take that trade, improbable as it is. I love Chris Cooley but a 1st and 3rd is a great trade. Fred Davis is going to be a Cooley clone in the next few years. With that extra pick IMO.
Pick #4 - Russell Okung or Sam Bradford Extra 1st Pick - Mike Iupati or Trent Williams Pick #36 - Jahvid Best or Charles Brown Extra 3rd - Dan Lefevour or Toby Gerhart That would be a lot of offensive help for the future which IMO outweighs having 2 good TEs with average/poor O-line. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I never thought i'd be saying this cuz Cooley embodies everything that I like about the Redskins, but in the end its a business and HELL YEA i'd trade him for a 1st and 3rd. After seeing how Davis played in his absence, the dropoff from him to Cooley is easily worth a 1st and 3rd rounder. Anyone who disagrees is just thinking with their heart and not their brain. It's a moot point cuz it'll never happen.

But there are 3 years remaining. I can see where the browns are coming from. Yes, he's been a great returner but he just started playing a lot of downs on o this year. If he played another year & put up decent #s he would be in a better bargaining position. I think he's trying to renegotiate too soon. The browns can ask a lot for him or just let him sit out. |

Exactly, which is why I think this needs to be dropped. I'm sure the team will discuss this and shop him quietly, but I just don't see how the team could be better by trading Cooley. Kellen Winslow and Jeremy Shockey wanted to get out of their respective teams or were unhappy with them. I don't think we'll get a 1st for Cooley, unless there's a team desperate for him. Cleveland got a 2nd and a 5th (2010) for Winslow, and the Giants got a 2nd and 4th for Shockey. The most we'd get for Cooley would be a 2nd and another pick. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I would trade cooley for a 2nd round pick right now. This team has needs to fill and could use another draft pick much more then excess depth at the TE position. I have a feeling when the redskins call though it will be Davis the teams want and not Cooley.

That said, I still believe Cooley is the steadier player today, and probably has 3-4 solid years before he declines due to advancing age. If we can get a 2nd round pick for Cooley, we would have to consider that.

Cooley and Moss for Marshall and Scheffler plus a 4th rounder...

Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
Stop trying to trade Chris Cooley!
And start trying to imagine how a top flight NFL mind will actually utilize our one area of strength on the offensive side of the ball. We have two dangerous tight ends. We just need to use them wisely. |

The main thing I like about Shanny is he expressed that you base your plays and scheme around your players. We have two TE's that will cause multiple match up problems for defenses. We should keep that threat. |

Completely agree with you on this. I doubt that this trade would be out there though. I don't think that they offered this much for Tony Gonzalez and he is generally thought of as the best TE in NFL history, granted at the end of his career. I would bet that if there were a second round pick, that would probably be Cooley's market value. |

Tony Gonzalez wanted to leave KC, Winslow and Braylon Edwards wanted to leave Cleveland, and I don't know if Shockey wanted to leave NYG, but they weren't in good terms. Cooley doesn't want to leave Washington and we have a good coaching staff that can do a good job with two pass-catching tightends. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I can see Cooley being traded to Jets, since that's the team Snyder loves to trade with.
|
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I thing it depends on what is offered and what we would likely pick up with the pic/s . If we could get a 2nd and 4th , and then trade a 5th for scheffler < Denver > , that would make sense . I would like to keep Cooley and Davis , more formations that our opp's have to practice for .
|
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I would do that immediately but nobody else would. Last year the patriots got a second roun pick for a potential franchise quarterback. We would be lucky to get the same although if we can actually get somebody to bite on a late first early second I would be happy to risk Davis doesn't make progress and then get our quarterback then.
|
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I would not want to trade Cooley for two reasons...first and foremost the guy is hardworking, doesn't cause problems, and plays well, the kind of guy we could use 53 of. Secondly, it would be nice to have two semi-proven pass catchers on the team in him and Davis who at least give us a semblance of a receiving corps. Until Moss shows his old self or Thomas/Kelly develops, I don't want to give up Cooley
|
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
Didn't read any of this..responding to title.
Of course we should do a trade like this...however, anyone willing to pay a 1st and 3rd for Cooley is a non-existant fool. I'd take a first for him...I seriously doubt we could get that...so I'd hold onto him |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
Looking back, perhaps I should have adjusted the thread title to say "Would you trade Chris Cooley for draft picks" -- but I figured with Cooley being the fan favorite that he is, the price would have to be high or there'd be some irate people on this thread. Judging from the first few replies, even a 1st and a 3rd wasn't enough.
Really I just wanted to find out what people thought about exchanging their favorite player for more draft picks to address other areas of need. With Fred Davis looking like he's the real deal, people seem to be more receptive to the idea than they were before. And yes, a 1st and a 3rd would be highly unlikely. I'd still do it for a 2nd and a 5th though. |

I wouldn't think twice about trading him for picks. Fred Davis is for real, and he's younger (and probably cheaper at this time). In my opinion, this is the ultimate no-brainer assuming you put winning above everything else. |

Fred Davis is the real deal? in 2 years and 32 games he has had 53 receptions for 536 yards and 6 tds...lets not anoint him shannon sharpe just yet...It is smart business to keep the only bona fide receiving threat (Cooley) on the team for just a little bit longer before shipping him out because someone could be the real deal. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I was thinking that a team liike Cleveland would prize Cooley.

Good point -- Cooley is a dependable safety valve for struggling QBs. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
I was also thinking if we go to a 3-4, Andre Carter would have little use to us. I wonder what another team would give for him.
I was also thinking if we go to a 3-4, Andre Carter would have little use to us. I wonder what another team would give for him.
It's a really good question. He's 30, going to be 31 next season, but he's still highly productive.
I'd imagine that because of the (probably untrue) perception that he simply benefited from Haynesworth this year, he'd be best kept as a nickel pass rusher in a base 3-4 than traded for like a fourth round pick or something. On top of that, I think you could put carter at DE in the 3-4 and he'd do just fine. He'd get beat up over the course of a season down inside, but I think he'd be a decent fit there. OLB in the 3-4, he's pretty useless. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
When watching the NY-CIN game, I noticed that CIN really didin't have a TE for a weapon. Could this be a team that could benefit from a Cooley type player? I think they are sound defensively, so maybe they would be down to give up a pick or 2 for Cooley, they sure could use him from what I saw today.

Im sorry but we have to many fans who just dont know crap about NFL talent. |
Re: Chris Cooley for a 1st and a 3rd -- would you do it?
Why trade Cooley who has been our most productive offensive player the last few years. He is a guy we scouted and drafted and now is a pro bowl TE Now we have a few fans that want to trade him because Davis had 1 decent season. I like Fred Davis he catches the ball and runs hard after the catch but he is not a elite TE yet. I say keep Cooley and lets see how Davis does the next few seasons. Our WR corp is not good enough yet so we need our TE's to help our offense be explosive in the pass game.
