Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
So this is interesting...the Redskins are apparently holding private workouts with Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen...on the same day. April 15th. I must have my info crossed up, because I can't imagine they'd hold them on the same day. But that's the info I have now
Let me ask this... PFT reported back when the Rams were supposedly having Clausen in for a work out that the NFL prohibits any work outs by draftee's unless its at the draftee's college, or hometown. So basically if this is true then all the Skins can do is talk football to see what knowledge they have, see if they would be interested in playing for the Skins, and give them a physical. Is this correct? or can the team actually put them through some throws? |

That WOULD be very interesting. Could be a good way to compare their talent and competitiveness with a little pressure on them. ;) |

Recently though I've heard and read how Clausen is climbing the board and has looked accurate and looks to have the arm strength. I'm not a homer. So whoever MS and KS feels would be best to run their offense would be satisfactory with me. I'm just not feeling the Tebow is our guy mancrush. Sorry.
This feels a lot like Phillip Rivers when he came out. Awkward 3/4 release, brash personality, late climb on the draft boards. The only difference is that Rivers was more accomplished when he came out. Bottom line though is that if Mike and Kyle like him I will welcome him with open arms if then well it doesn't matter because they won't draft him. In looking at everything though I feel that Clausen is a much better prospect then Cutler. Cutler had a lot of physical tools but limited production. Clausen on the other hand has some nice physical tools and much better production. Still my opinion right now is dependent on what our coaches think of him. |

Right, so on April 15th the Redskins are going to Norman, Oklahoma where they will work out Bradford Tomorrow, Eric Berry is coming to Redskins Park where they will basically just conduct a job interview with him. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Has Shanahan or Allen been quoted as saying they love Clausen? I just keep hearing people say this but never a quote or factual comment. Just a rumor or is it real?

More then likely it would be people close to them "with knowledge of the situation." We'll see but right now I don't think we'll really know until draft day. |

I've never heard it |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I've never heard it
I think people may be confusing that statement with him watching hours of college/pro tapes, which included Notre Dame, while he was off last season. But I haven't heard him say anything specifically about Clausen either. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
Clausen is a lot different than Cutler coming out. Cutler was a LOT more polished, even at football-starved Vanderbilt, stronger arm, quicker decisions, etc. Clausen is a lot wiser of a passer, but his skills more unrefined. A 28/4 TD-INT rate is not something Cutler would or could have gotten anywhere near had he played at Notre Dame. Cutler is more of a chain-mover, keep firing, throw 50 times a game type. Clausen will probably lean on a running game.
On a pass-to-pass basis, Clausen is probably a better investment than Cutler was, but Cutler's tools and 4,000 yard ability are what made him so intriguing to teams last offseason (and made his obvious flaws ignorable). Bradford is much closer to Cutler than Clausen is (though I am not sure I would say Bradford compares favorably -- I might). |

I presume DS, MS, KS, and whoever else wants to go will be flying around to visit two QB's and give them a work out? |

Replace DS with BA. Most likely DS will only meet them at Redskin Park, though he may go as well. Anyhow, I guess that's how they'd do it. Still, I can't believe they're on the same day. Maybe they had no choice? |

Norman in the morning, South Bend in the afternoon? Now there's a heck of a day. I wonder what they are serving for lunch on Redskin One? |

What I see in Clausen is a player with good footwork, a quick release, a good feel for and ability to avoid pass rushers while finding room to throw, good accuracy, good touch on the ball when needed, the ability to make all types of throws, and more. I think he'll be ready to start in the NFL sooner than any other QB in this draft. |

Like I said before it depends on what the Shanahans think. Personally my eyes like Clausen on film but I'm not a scout, just an above average fan. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I still have a feeling the Redskins are going to make a pre-draft move to get Bradford. I could see us sending Rocky McIntosh, Fred Davis, swap firsts this year, and possibly our first in 2011 to move up to take Bradford. The Rams would then take Clausen at four. I know most on this board will be livid with such a move but Shanahan and Allen are very bold and have the guts to go and get their man. Also, Bradford will not sign a pre-draft deal with the Rams which indicates he doesn't want to be a part of a team with no owner, poor fan attendance, and a dreadful team. This could become a John Elway or Eli Manning deal.

Yeah, part of me says that Jimmy Clausen is a better choice and to stick with some of our guys who have trade value. The other part says we're missing out on a future superstar quarterback in Bradford. Again it wouldn't surprise me also if we end up taking a guy like Okung? Who else is excited for Jimmy Clausen's pro day? Let's hope he answers all the questions and helps us make a clear decision. |
Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
I feel like Bradford is on the hype machine, every year it is some guy. How can every year produce a next great QB?
Look at last year would you rather have had Sanchez or Stafford now after their first year? |

He was on a really really bad team. I dont think you can say Sanchez is the better QB at this point b/c of the playoffs, even though regardless of what hater rhetoric is spewed, first the drive to get in the playoffs and then the playoffs run itself was extremely impressive. I laugh when people say ooohh the QB had nothing to do with that...really??? I mean he is the guy driving the offense, giving the ball to people every offensive play, and people look and listen to him in the huddle. You gotta have something to do that. Put your bs stats up your a$$, the guy overachieved helped lead his team almost to the superbowl. Stafford was impressive as well showing how tough he was, playing through injury, and basically played the QB position better than anyone in Detroit the previous 3-4 years. Its too way to early to say who is better at this point, but both were excellent in their first year. In the long run...ill say Stafford will be better and would take him. |

Look at last year would you rather have had Sanchez or Stafford now after their first year?
Yep. This time last year there wasn't a doubt in my mind that Matthew Stafford was the best quarterback in the draft. Sanchez was still an option, but Stafford was just too good for the lions to pass up. Looking back, I still think Stafford's better but Sanchez still managed to produce better so who really knows. Personally I think it's tough to throw Stafford or Bradford on one of the two worst teams in the league and then say to produce like you were expected to. If you were to put them on a team that has potential to be good as is, it's a completely different story (Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco). |

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins
If we are going to select Jimmy Clausen then I want the Lions to select Okung at 2. Mainly because they would be in the running for any of the tackles like Saffold and Brown that might drop from round 1, the lay off between round 1 and round 2 also isn't going to give us much help unless we try to trade down.

That's a good point. They probably will take an OT right before us in round #2. Assuming the skins are staying at #4 I would still prefer that Okoung & Clausen are both available. That way they would have thier choice of the 2. If they draft Clausen at #4 I want it to be because they love him not because their other options are all gone. |

yeah that is a good point/way of looking at things. nicely done. at this point, sitting at no 4, i am good with however we pick; be it okung, claussen, suh, mccoy, berry. im really at a toss up btw claussen and okung. i havent really considered bradford as i dont think he will be there at 4. any way this shapes up, we are good. we should be able to add 2 starting or atleast competing right-away players (qbs excused). |

The Lions may or may not address OT in this draft (I imagine they will because it's critical for top offenses, but, it's not a "need" for them).

LG is a major need for them, although I'm not sure that they need to use the second overall pick in order to fill it. I imagine that if they took Okung with pick No. 2, he'd play RT and Gosder Cherlius would find a new position (bench). Eventually, he'd be their LT. But I doubt they're looking for a LT for this upcoming season. |

I wonder if Clausen gets past Buffalo if he falls all the way into the 2nd round or will someone (hopefully not us) trade into the back end of the 1st to snag him.

No way he falls out of the top 10, we are idiots if we let him get by us.
