Shit, sounds good to me, lets take the smaller more athletic one for our RT, and give them JC and our 5th. |
Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)
Actually, I think that is a knee jerk post on my account. Lets go with acquiring more picks, and let Shanny and Allen pick out their type of talent, not someone elses year old mediocre picks.

Works for me. Let's get the ball rolling on that |
Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)
Well, by that rationale, you'll really have to wait to see what the Eagles do with the 3rd or 4th round pick in 2011, because we gave them that as well.
I like the trade I guess, but I just have this feeling that Campbell could have put up some very nice numbers under Shanahan's tutelage.
I think Campbell is a solid, respectable QB but it says something to me when Shanahan, who thinks he could win a Super Bowl with you at QB, didn't feel Campbell was the right guy for him. I'm not ready to judge this move yet, but I am glad our QB situation for at least 2010 has been settled. Even had we drafted someone like Clausen there still would have been a question of will he start right away or will Grossman start the season? And Campbell, whether fans wanted it or not, was not going to be the QB here. We finally have some closure on the seemingly never-ending who will be our QB question. |
I just don't get it. I understand the assigned value for players, but if you need an OL why not pick the next best one on the list or which ever one you think will do well in zone blocking. Instead you want to wait till the next round then said OL get picked by someone else. Then we decide on another OL and again we are too high to draft the OL or the value doesn't fit. So we wait then someone else gets him.
In the long run we get no OL cause when it's time for us to pick we don't like the value. Just fill our needs and stop with the BPA BS.
Exactly. I just don't see the horror that others do in picking what you need. Especially after the first round when the talent starts to level out and it's basically hit or miss. With the BPA strategy, you theoretically could go round after round ignoring obvious needs -- like Vinny did for years with the O-line. |

I doubt McNabb needs to overcompensate with a crappy stereo system thats all bass and no trebble. But why, is McNabb looking for a place in Kennesaw? Alpharetta/Johns Creek seems to be more in his price range.
Alpharetta is a city in north Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It is one of the most affluent communities in the state. According to a 2008 estimate, Alpharetta's population is 49,903.
We actually have a handful of former and current NFL stars and various celebrities living there. Dieon Sanders use to live in my parents neighborhood with a football shaped pool in the back yard. I also think John Smoltz and Jeff Foxworthy liive in the area as does Jessie Tuggle and David Whitehurst. Heck my high school position coach played against the Redskins in the 87 Super Bowl. But as far as the stereos go. It's like someone pinching you. They do once you're like "whatever." They do 500 times your like "all right, please stop." |
Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)
I agree, but a second rounder and a likely third rounder really isn't too bad of a deal for a proven quarterback. In fact, it almost seems cheap.
3rd for Mark Brunell was pretty bad because he was already well into his decline shown through his poor play and eventual benching in Jacksonville. I believe we traded a 1st and 2nd and 3rd rounder for Brad Johnson in 1999. We used a 1st and 3rd and 4th for Jason Campbell. Matt Cassel cost a 2nd rounder and who knows how good he actually is. It almost seems like McNabb came at a bargain.
Well said. If we get a third or fourth pick for JC, that will in a sense cancel next year's pick that we sent to Philly. In this case, we upgraded at QB to Donovan McNabb for just a net second round pick. This is indeed a bargain. How often do you acquire a multi-Pro Bowler, within the division no less, for just a second? |

Couldn't tell you. I live in Richmond. It probably wouldn't be his own vehicle anyway. Someone linked a video of him coming in and being hauled around in a stretch limo. That probably would have all bass and no trebble. He won't get his whips down here for a bit until things get settled I imagine.
Tripp what did you think about the Brunell trade? I think Gibbs gave Jacksonville a 3rd rounder. What was your opinion on that one? You seemed to be in Brunell's corner even though his skills were in decline. I think Brunell was around the same age as McNabb is when he was traded here.
I am not GTripp but I think I am allowed to comment ;-) The Brunell trade ruined Gibbs 2.0. Then they literally threw away the 3rd round pick and extended Brunell with a huge deal. Then to top it off, they could have traded Ramsey and received decent compensation but held on to him for an extra year, ruined his trade value and wound up with a 6th round pick. That move was a microchosm for everything wrong with the front office over the last 11 years. I hate the Portis for Champ deal, but this one was even worse. At least Portis was a big time performer at times. It does bring up the biggest risk to the McNabb deal. If the Mastermind is wrong, his tenure here could end up like the Hall of Famer's. But here is the thing. The Mastermind hasn't been ignoring the game for 10+ years and he isn't coming here to be a delegator and experiment with personnel moves for the first time. |

Selig is such a douche haha
Asked by Tom Boswell about McNabb, here's what Selig told reporters, according to the Post's Mark Viera: "I don't know; it's baseball. Goodness gracious, I'm a football fan -- this is Opening Day. If you really want to know I'm going to give you a brutally honest answer. I got up at 5:30 this morning and did my daily workout. And I was watching an unnamed channel and that's all they were talking about. I turned it off, that was my reaction. My goodness gracious."
Redskins Insider - Selig not thrilled with all the McNabb talk on Opening Day Trust me, the residual McNabb coverage was way better than what went on at Nationals Stadium today. |
So based on the above we can start an Idiot's List: - Mike Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan, Bruce Allen - I'll include myself, since I think it's a good move - Let's include John Clayton who said this morning on Mike & Mike that the Eagles making this trade was "baffling". He stated the Eagles gave the Skins "3-4 more wins per year" based on McNabb (another indication McNabb is a significant upgrade over JC). And called McNabb a "franchise" QB. |

According to an espn analyst McNabb was in the weight room before the media this morning working out. Getting ready for Philly? Well i know we have at least two prime-time games this season.

Re: McNabb a Redskin! (Part II)
Well, I mean if you were grading them on this one move, the conclusion would be that they in fact are idiots.
Based on this one move, the conclusion still would not be that [they] are idiots. If for only one reason is, McNabb is a clear upgrade from Jason Campbell. If for another reason, the Redskins have not had a franchise QB since Joe Theismann (and some may argue that he wasn't necessarily a franchise QB.) If you're adding in the prospects of what the FO will do with our #4 pick, then this move will turn out to cost us nothing than the money in McNabb's contract (and we have no cap and Snyder has deep pockets who cares about that anyway?) We may in fact be able to trade down and get that second round pick back and possibly other picks if we don't use the #4 to get Okung. Which will be likely if Okung is gone before we pick #4. So, I really can't see how one can call the FO idiots for solidifying a pressing need that we haven't had in years (a solid starting QB) and still having options left to rebuild the offensive line. I can see if we traded our only pick away on McNabb, but that didn't happen. Now the Redskins (assuming the OL gets addressed with the draft) are instant contenders in the NFC with a QB who can play for us for the next 3 or 4 years at least. By that point, hopefully we will draft a new young RB, and our offensive line will be solid. And then we can concentrate on drafting a new QB. I was unsure about the McNabb move in the beginning, but now I see it as a big blessing for us. |
