^ It sounds good, but we haven't seen it as aproven comodity. I am with you in wanting them to succeed, but they haven't proven there ability and i am sure that is why they are/were giving Jackson a look. BUT I am all for one more shot for the 2 youngsters.
I say leave VJ alone...The Skins don't need him! Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I know what your saying Dirtbag but some teams #1 WR are another teams 2nd, 3rd, or 4th WR. I can tell you our #1 Moss wouldn't be a #1 on many of teams, he'd be a #2 or #3 WR. He's our #1 cause he's the best the Skins have right now. I think many of you would say Moss is by far better then Thomas and Kelly right now.
and... you are correct in saying that teams don't always make it to a SB with their god like WR's. But what we are talking about is weapons. The Skins have one weapon who is often injured (Moss), then Cooley and now Davis. In the right scheme you might be able to mention Portis and the other RB's. What a team/HC I'm sure would like is several god like WR's, 2 god like TE's, 1 or 2 god like RB's, and a god like QB. Since according to many here we have the QB now, the TE's now, and hopefully RB's for a couple of yrs, can we look into possibly WR's with out someone complaining that we should just stay the course with the mediocrity we have had and look for any upgrades at that position which would cause other defenses to have to account for yet another threat? |

That's not scraps. But what's unique about the Chiefs is that even though they had all that talent, they relied heavily on journeymen and scrubs to come up with big catches on second and third downs, and those players like Dante Hall, Marc Boerigter, Jason Dunn, Samie Parker, and Chris Horn all had their share of big games on those teams. We can't get enough (i.e. more than one) big games from second round draft choices, let alone UDFAs. |

Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
eh, i'd be cool either way...but there are some top notch WR's in this draft class coming up. If we are a 8-8 team I can see us getting Baldwin from Pitt who is a STUD. 6'5 WR. Kind of like AJ Green and Julio Jones. or Perhaps a micheal floyd from notre dame who I think will make a decent pro as well.
also shouldn't give up on DT just yet. |

Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I would be very happy to try and find a team to trade Haynesworth to for 2nd and 3rd round picks. If we could do this I think it would solve two problems. The Albert Haynesworthless controversy would be over and we could easily spend a 2nd rounder to trade for Vincent Jackson. However, finding a team to give us a 2nd and 3rd is the challenge. Wishful thinking I guess. Shanny is slick. Maybe he can pull it off. I hope...

Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
Well I think the only way we trade AH is for a deal like that. It may be conditional though as, a 2nd in 2011 and a 3rd in 2012. I doubt that we would let AH go for much less. As I am sure Mike thinks that he is at least that valuable for two reasons.
1. He is a dominant player in the NFL ( take all the bitching aside ) 2. His value to our team is yet of an unknown, he may come into camp and be ready to play. Learn the system for a few weeeks and realize how he will be used and that he would be able to make plays, because that is all he cares about. Now the reasons why it may be far fetched to think we may be able to get a deal like that though are the same reasons why some of us don't want him here anymore. 1. He is a proven malcontent. 2. He is a fat lazy guy at times, and for all the plays he made last year he took a more off then he made. My feeling would be him going to the Seahawks, but would they rather have AH or VJ? All the other suitors out there would not give the Redskins that kind of compensation, but the Seahawks might. They can't get both players. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
Get AH for picks is the main thing. I wonder if we can still sneak in getting a first rounder for AH or at least a couple second rounders. I have a feeling the FO is going to shed some of these newbie WRs ASAP. I don't think they are going to cut it. At least one of them anyway.

Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I'll take a lame draft in exchange for an exciting passing game
I kind of think we shouldn't do the Jackson trade, just because we need the picks badly.
On the other hand, getting a competent receiver -- in VJ's case, a star -- is probably the move we need to take us from contenders to favorites in the NFC East. It would be consistent with all of our other trades this offseason, which means that if the plan is to win now, we shouldn't hold off on doing this trade. With all of those sides presented, I'm not really sure what the plan is. The reason this trade hasn't happened yet is that the Redskins are still finding a way they can unload Haynesworth to soften the draft pick compensation on Jackson, but there's just no historical comparable as to how to value Haynesworth's contract in a trade. For the entire salary cap era, a contract like that was untradeable. |
Like others have said, I feel confident in the new front office. I don't think MS and BA will trade away haynesworth unless we get fair compensation, or make a trade for Jackson if we have to give up more than he's worth.
When you compare our off-season to the rest of the NFL, its crazy how much the skins have changed. In April we were willing to sell our souls so that we'd be able to fix our qb and ol situation, and now that we have (just go with it), it seems we've just gone on a roll to keep making as many changes as we can, just for the sake of change. I would be much more inclined to see how all the pieces we've assembled fit together before assuming more of our existing players are inadequate. Sent from my Android device using Tapatalk |

My response to this is how do we know we don't already have the pieces to have an exciting passing game? With the 2 TEs, Santana, Thomas, and a RB IE Parker or Portis. I think we may have the makings of something potent already. We haven't seen any of them in KS's system. |

We haven't seen them in KS system, but the coaches have and if they are trying to get Vincent Jackson what does that tell you about what they have seen so far. I really would like to see Haynesworthless traded to Seattle for two 2nds or a 2nd and 3rd and trade a 2nd for Jackson. But I also want six winning numbers and a lot of other things I probably will never get either. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I'll take a lame draft in exchange for an exciting passing game
Not sure if I would want another daft like this past one. One reason I am skeptical that things at Redskin Park have really changed all that much is the continued one sidedness of how the new FO seems intent on improving the team. Like the bad ole days of the Danny being soley in charge, our new FO had basically sabotaged its first draft to get McNabb, then hurt next years to get Brown. THe new FO hasn't been in "power" for a year, and it is business as usual. IF we get Jackson our next draft or two will be stunted even more. I am all for using free agency to build a team, but in conjunction with the draft. Thus far, it is still a one sided affair. Trent Williams and the other lineman were the only guys that we drafted that really answered our needs. The TE, WR, etc we drafted were pretty much wastes. At least draft a CB for depth. |

Remember how quickly they got rid of MR Wonderful from Nevada? Half the people in here were enchanted with him, but not the new HC and GM. That action in itself not only tells me how screwed things were under Vinny, but how shitty we ourselves are as talent evaluaters. |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
Often it's all about timing, and the timing may not be so great to get VJ. Shanny is being smart and holding onto AH for the time being. All it takes is a major preseason injury to any dominant DT in a 4-3 system and we're looking at possibly a 1st rd pick for AH (we'll take a big hit cash wise as part of the deal but what else is new). Shanny may not want to give away our 2nd rd pick till he's gotten what he wants from AH.
If VJ goes sooner that AH leaving...then I could see TO signed afterward. |

Mr wonderful and I are facebook frineds! LoL I agree bud. I am not trying to be a talent evauluater. What if we are wrong though and Tana is the one they want to move to the slot? There is a chance for that to be the case. Another thing is, and we have all known this for years. We do not have a bonafide NFL caliber #1 WR. Vincent is that guy, and they see a chance to make a move to change that. I am not saying I want to trade the farm for VJ, I am just bringing up points as you did, and I like bringing questions to the board even though they often go unanswered! If he comes in shape and open to learning this D then he is here. That is the best case scenario, I think your side is another side of being a good scenario. You can apply the training camp injury to the Vincent Jackson trade situation as well. One injury to a top guy could get the Chargers more in terms of picks. That may be what is holding the Chargers from pulling the trigger on some sort of deal now. I think they are asking a bit much. VJ isn't in the Brandon Marshall trade range for 2 2s or even a first right now. He is a step between Marshall and Santonio Holmes range. A ?? character guy, who has a suspension on the looming at the begining of the season. I would have taken SH over VJ for a fifth choice this year. Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
Why is anyone opposed to trading a 2nd rounder for Jackson? Would you rather have a 2nd round receiver in next years draft? We've already got two of those on our team and if either of them were anything special, we wouldn't even be talking about Jackson. I'd gladly give up next years second and a lower 2012 pick for Jackson. The 2011 draft is going to be one of the weakest in recent memory. Guys will go in the late first next year who would have gone in the third this year. Screw 2011 draft picks if we can land young proven players now.
|
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
^ But it would be nice to use the secondround pick on something other than a WR. We are going to have to get younger at other positions as well. MLB, CB, QB these are all positions that could use an influx of youth next April.
Of course Vincent is a nice piece to have, but I just can't get behind trading away the middle of the draft anymore. Show me that this stuff works for a couple of years and I might change my mind. I do trust BA and MS though. If they want him, and feel he is nessecesary I will cheer my ass off come September for him. Well the end of September that is. |

EDIT...2nd DUI. May well be another problem is showing its ugly face? |
Re: Report: Redskins are pursuing Vincent Jackson
I mentioned this in an earlier post and people blew by it.
Why is his value so much higher than Santonio Holmes? Problem child, play maker... 2nd DUI and a driving under suspension ( on his way to the playoff game the chargers lost ) to dumb to get a ride to the biggest game of the year? So here we are talking about giving up a 2nd round pick when just 2 months ago a WR was traded with a similar skill set and off the field issues for a fifth rounder. Seems as though the Chargers are asking a little much if a 2nd is what it takes. He isnt Brandon Marshall. |
