Smoot, I always wondered what you did up there. That sounds like a very fun and demanding job full of a good bit of stress to perform.
Now I know why you may get a little defensive when folks bash ESPN's programming! I can see why it may be a little personal to you. P.S. I was holding out hope that you were secretly Scott Van Pelt. lol... by far one of my favorite on air personalitys at the Mothership.
I only get defensive when people make assumptions, but I realize that not everyone has access to the same info I do so my point of view is different on certain things. I think I have seen SVP maybe two times in my four years here |
I'm a moderator on a Redskins message board...but to pay the bills I do other stuff. My job deals with a lot of stuff that doesn't exist yet. Not to be all CIA on you, but I work on the business strategy for ESPN projects that are months, sometimes years, down the road and how to make it successful for fans, leagues, advertisers, etc. So one day when say you're watching Monday Night Football on your Wii while chatting with Trent Dilfer, you'll think of me
R+D, sounds like a dream job. You know what, forget the government job I wun works 4 ESPEN! I mean come on I'm a guy who likes sports in America. I'm like super rare. Ironically according to a few of my friends this simple fact qualifies me for a position at ESPN. On a separate note, where are all the "Sam Bradford is a terrible QB" people? Now you understand why we wanted him. Not that I'm unhappy with what we did this offseason in any way, shape, or form, but now we see why Bradford was so highly regarded. Then again it is only preseason. |

I truly enjoy Sportscenter most of the year, except those summer months when the only thing to cover is baseball highlights, as a life long o's fan, i have truly lost most of the interest I had in baseball. I'll watch a playoff game or 2, followed the 'redsox and phillies runs to a championship a couple of years back. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
BTW I know I have made some generalized espn bashing comments at times.

Then you must have had something to do with the World Cup. I thought that you guys did a great job with that. Now that I think of it, you wanted Spain to win and Spain won...I smell a fix! :) |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Because it's about the brand name really. Monday Night Football should be viewed together as one phrase, don't focus so much on the Monday part of it
kind of like the Red Zone not really being red haha jus tmessing with you |

No worries. Yeah most days it's fun, but that's more because of the people I work with than the place I work at. It is cool to be there and enjoy some of the more unusual perks (like tossing the football with Drew Brees), but at the end of the day it's a job like any other and like any other job it can get frustrating. Lotus-I was very involved in the World Cup...but there was no fix ;) As for SportsCenter, on a day to day basis my work has almost nothing to do with SC or the NFL. (The Redskins/NFL info I sometimes provide here often comes from previous connections from my days covering the Skins, though I talk to the NFL guys at ESPN all the time, more so behind the scenes guys) My long-term projects are heavily revolved around it though. As for the preseason, tough break for Donnie Avery (no pun intended). And I was thinking Packers vs. Pats earlier this week as my Super Bowl prediction, feeling a bit more comfortable about it after last night. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Bradford sure looked good last night, didn't see that one coming considering the rough start he had to the preseason.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
I was impressed but I will not pass judgement until I see teams gameplanning for him.

Yeah, it was a Colt Brennan-rookie kind of performance. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
The Packers are going to be a tough team for any to beat. They must have the deepest WR core in the game as well as so many good skill players. I would not be surprised if they sweep the Vikings this year ruining Farves come back.

Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Ok guys, I can't find a thread for this, but does anyone outside of the DC area know if there is a Live stream of the Skins/Jets game online tonight? I live in KY and found one last week for the Ravens game. Thanks and sorry for putting this in the wrong thread.

I actually watched the game on this link last week, so it may work again. It was a little fuzzy, but it was better than waiting for the NFL Network replay. Thanks NYCskinfan. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
No prob scowan just passing the site along no one should ever be deprived from watching the SKINS play.

Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Did ESPN the Mag really predict the Cowboys to be last place in the NFC East or am I dyslexic.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Cleveland looks very well versed in the west coast offense. I don't know if they have any offensive playmakers, but if they find some, they could be the AFC's surprise team.
If they don't, Delhomme is probably a 62% passer who hovers around 6 YPA. |
Did ESPN the Mag really predict the Cowboys to be last place in the NFC East or am I dyslexic.
Dallas' defense looks better than they are projecting, but man, Romo to Austin is the only thing that's gone right for those guys offensively in the preseason. Those two are in midseason form, but everyone else looks horrible.

Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Our first two regular season opponents play each other tonight at 8:00 pm on CBS. Dallas vs. Houston....should be interesting, the preseason bragging rights for Texas.

They look very suspect don't they? Hope they don't improve between now and Sept. 12th. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Age has caught up to most of their Lineman. Reminds me of Jansen/Thomas/Samuels.. I've watched every Dallas game so far and I know it's pre season but that Offense doesn't look all that impressive
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
The pre preseason favs look bad. Now that Rice and Harvin are having problems Minnesota might be on the ropes also. Especially since the Pack looks hot.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Ravens are totally dominating the Gmen now.

They do have some injuries but the show must go on. No team in the league knows more about injury to an offensive line than we do. No one felt sorry for us either. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
It's preseason we must remember this SKINS FANS, but damm the cowgurls & the dwarfs looking f ing ugly.

That is an understatement. At least we looked competitive with the Ravens with our starters. Gmen are getting dominated. |

Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
^ as is Dallas! Schaub is killing them
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
And Dallas fans can't tell me they didn't try! Bull shit, Dallas is simply put a " soft " team. Phil simms just picked them to go to the super bowl! I'm so tired of everyone on Dallas! Can't wait for the season to start
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Both Dallas and the NYG have old offensive lines, which like our old offensive line last year will be a huge issue.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Oakland appears to have meaningful football again. Good for them, I guess.
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Phil Simms is giving Dallas excuses.. "Their not motivated to play" LOL
|
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
Well we will see just how old and slow they are in about what 2 weeks. HOLY SHIT ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS!!! I am so ready for real meaningful football games.
Starting out with the Cowboys is going to be fun. Haslett will bring the heat against Dallas and hopefully that old slow Oline will show up on Sunday Night Football on 9/12. |

The guy is extremely accurate, an asset there's no substitute for. I'm impressed with the efficiency of their offense, preseason aside. |
Re: 2010 NFL Preseason
IDC if it's pre season or not, 20-0 is embarrasing
