Top 5 Pac -10 teams:
Oregon, Stanford, Arizona, Oregon St., USC Top 5 SEC teams: Auburn LSU Alabama Arkansas UF or South Carolina Are you kidding me chico
Oregon and Stanford beat any of those teams. Arizona lose to Auburn but compete/beat the others. Oregon St and USC would get killed by the top 3 but hang/beat the bottom 3. I dont think Im that far off. SEC as a whole is better than the Pac 10, but Oregon and Stanford are very very good teams. |

To put it more succinctly, you ---and by you, I'm referring to you and GMScud (The guy won't give me an inch on Obama, so I have to find an opening where I can get it.) -- tend to ascribe success and high national rankings of smaller or lesser known programs as a fluke, dumb luck, weak scheduling, an off year in the SEC or a combination of the four. But when it comes to anyalizing the SEC, you seem to have the best talent in the land, the best coaches, most loyal fans, and unmatched football prowess vs the rest of college football. Now considering that the SEC have been kicking ass and taking names for the past four years, I think that is a sometimes fair assessment. But it's the, what I perceive to be, belittling of inferior programs and the sense of entitelment that tends to surround SEC programs which leads me to think this. Hey, I have no real problem with SEC dominance. They produce great NFL caliber players and make pretty good Redskins! |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
Boise and TCU are good if not great teams. I'm not discounting them. If they won the NC it would be well deserved but I don't think they deserve it over a 1 loss SEC or Oregon team.
Good it was joke...lol.
Amature...yes its intended as a slight. Because thats the reality of it. College Basketball shouldnt be compared. See College basketball is a more true version of the game, they actually play as a team, defense and fundamentals are stressed unlike the NBA. I see a player like Cam at auburn and I think what a pretty player. Then I think that garbage is never gonna translate to NFL. So yes enjoy it, I do to a certain extent. But the game and the system is seriously seriously flawed. Its second tier IMO. Ok yes SEC football is probably overall the best conference in football top to bottom over the last 5 years. But your not entitle to anything...lol.. look at the records this year...No one stands out. If Auburn is your best team that is not saying much. Pac Ten I think better top teams sorry. Bama having 2 loses says alot, first tough conference, second not as good as everyone thought LSU play and Les luck is gonna catch up with them. Auburn has gotten lucky twice. All im saying is "Roll Tide!!!" in 2 weeks, cause you know what that means: Oregon vs TCU
College football is second tier to what? Pro football? Name a sport in the USA that isn't second tier to the NFL? I mean come on. The fact of the matter is the SEC year in and year out is the best conference, and has proven it by their overall dominance over the last decade. They're bigger, faster, and stronger than any other conference, although I do agree that the Pac-10 is stronger this year than they've been in a long time. I love watching Oregon play. But I gotta say man, your flat out hating of the SEC really speaks to how good of a conference it is. The SEC championship game has been the national semi-final for three year's running for pete's sake. Pac-10 needs a championship game badly. |

However when you look at schools like Boise St, how can you not consider strength of schedule? This year they beat a vastly overrated Va Tech (the ACC is garbage this season), and a .500 Oregon State team. That's it. They are a great program to be sure, and they've proven in the past they can hang with teams like Oklahoma (thanks to gadget plays, but hey, a W is a W), but SOS is important. You look at Boise State's schedule... I mean... pretty much all of those schools would lose to SEC bottom feeders. A one loss team that runs the gauntlet of an SEC (or this year, a PAC 10) schedule is more deserving of a shot at the title than a team that plays nobody. That said, get a damn playoff system. The BCS is a joke. |

I'm calling it now.
Oregon vs. TCU in title game. TCU's only remaining challenge was #5 Utah and they destroyed them 47-7. This gives them the edge over Boise State I think. San Diego State and New Mexico remaining |

First time SC got us in our house EVER. Wow. And only their second win ever vs the Gators, putting them at 2-18 all time. The SEC top to bottom is very good, with 7 teams in the top 25. I tip my hat to Spurrier and the Gamecocks. They're a better team this year for sure. That said, I like how loaded with blue chip talent our younger guys are though. The '08 National Championship led to what some have called the best recruiting class of all time in '09. Give us a minute. We'll be back. |

Despite that they still held their own against Boise State and yes, lost a game they should have won to JMU. They haven't lost since the loss to JMU and have improved just about every week. The team finishes in the top just about every year and are on pace to possibly do it again (they do need help though). They are far from overrated. LOL. If you think for one second I am "pissed" about anything that has to do with Va Tech football, you're kidding yourself. Frankly the only thing I care about on a yearly basis in the ACC is that Florida State loses to my Gators (which has become an annual tradition nowadays). I call them overrated because it seems like almost every year they are in the preseason discussion as a national title contender, and they don't ever deliver. They haven't had a QB worth a damn since Vick. And don't forget how awful the ACC is this year. |

???? huh? Overly sensitive to what? You're the one that throws a hissy fit every time anyone gives the SEC props. If you read my post, I give plenty of props to the PAC 10 this year, and also acknowledge the down year that Florida in particular is having. What's comical is how much time you spend on here hating on the SEC and slurping the likes of the PAC 10 and Boise St, all the while mocking college football because it's "amateur." If it's such an amateur waste of time, why even bother posting in this thread? |

VT has been in the confrence championship more than any other team since they moved to the ACC. The only other team to come close is GT. I do not see how you can call VT overrated though. They schedule tough opponents early in the season every year. USC, Alabama, Boise State etc. and they don't exactly get blown out by those teams. One of these years they are going to win one of those early out of confrence games and be serious contenders. I just don't see how a model of consistency can be considered overrated. This message is for Quake, it looks like VT is going to the ACC Championshp again. Can NC State or Florida State beat them? I don't think so. It looks like we're in the Orange Bowl again. |

This Boise St. - Nevada game is SICK. One of the best games I've watched this year.
|
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
That was 2 excellent games today with Auburn coming back to defeat 'Bama and Boise State losing to Nevada because their kicker sucks ass. If Boise State was an NFL team that guy would've been cut before the coach reached the locker room. How do you miss 2 chip shot field goals with the game on the line? Huuuuge fail.
Barring something crazy unforeseen it will def. be Auburn and Oregon in the BCS title game. I'd put my money on Auburn to win too just because the SEC is so much tougher than the Pac 10, and that comeback against 'Bama was crazy as hell too. On a side note is anybody else suspicious about all this Cam Newton drama with his dad trying to get paid? I was skeptical at first but I'm hearing too much info lately to believe that people are just trying to ruin his name. I wouldn't mind if Auburn ended up BCS champions but it would def. leave a sour taste if Cam Newton was just a prick and went along with his dad in a plan to get a college to pay to have him go there. |
Re: ***2010-2011 College Football Thread***
WOW Boise. I'd still cut the kicker. You were up 24-7. How do you let that slip away. Oh and WTF Alabama???? 24-0 at home.

He's gonna get ostracized in that town, and I'm sure he'll get a ton of abuse. Imagine what his facebook page looks like today? I mean, from what they were saying he was one of the more consistent players on their team all year and won WAC Special Teams player of the week a few times. Not like he's been a bum. Anyway, I know you've got to make those kicks and that's inexcusable, but that's a 20 year old kid. He's gonna be scarred for a long, long time. Not so sure it's by 17, but I think the Ducks also win. These SEC fanboys don't watch much west coast football if they underestimate Oregon- these guys play a no huddle offense that makes Peyton Manning look like he takes the entire play clock. They'll give up their share of points, however. I just don't know how Auburn can keep up on offense, even with Cam. But all this won't matter if the Ducks can't win the Civil War next weekend (at OSU). |

I do pay attention...I know they are talented enough to win 7 games and the only two teams that blew them out were Bama and Florida State. Florida State sure was due one and they took it today in a big way. They are on their way back now that old ass Bobby is gone. Loved the fake punt! |

Loved the fake punt!
Florida has lots of problems right now. Prior to today the fake punt wasn't one of them (8 of 8 under Meyer before today). Jon Brantley needs to cut his losses and transfer from Florida. If he was playing in an offense like Alabama, LSU, USC, etc, he'd be a star. Trying to fit a traditional pocket passer in the spread is just stupid. Kid was the 2006 Gatorade National Player of the Year. Take those talents to a system that can use them. This past recruiting class was called by many the best of all time. This team is so young, but for god's sake, change the QB. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Driskel is starting as a true frosh next fall. He's a monster. I knew losing Tebow and Co would be a big hangover. Admittedly I didn't think it would be 5 losses. Oh well. The price of reloading I guess. Go Auburn against team Nike. Tell me again, why do you root for Oregon? |

West of the rockies, you've got barely a handful of programs worth a shit. Oregon St is paltry at best. They've lost 3 of 4. Stanford and Oregon are quite good. Aside from that, the Pac-10 is kinda ehhh right now. Arizona has slid a bit, and the Trojans just got popped for their fifth loss by Notre Dame. Really it's a two team conference at this point. Even if both Rodgers boys are healthy next week for the Beavers, Oregon should roll. I see no reason why Oregon isn't a 14-17 point favorite at least in that game. Maybe one day the Pac-10 will sack up and have a conference championship game. IMO as long as the BCS is around, no AQ conference should be allowed to operate without one. Oregon and their grab-bag of hurry up silliness will get quieted by Auburn. |
