Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I like Gano. I believe if given the chance, he will become a solid kicker for us. He does have the skills and the leg. What he needs is time. Also the microscope gets stronger when so many games are so close and go into OT.
Or we can release him and watch him win games for another team while complaining about how Gano is so much better than our "current" kicker.
Sounds like the John Hall argument. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Is Ray Finkle still avaliable??
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Graham Gano has a decent leg but like someone on on this thread mentioned, there's no gimmes with this guy and at this level 35 and under kicks in decent conditions need to be gimmes
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I'd give Gano a very committed second chance next year. He has a lot of promise but he needs to deliver with it. Bring in a serious competitor with experience and make him show in training camp he can handle the pressure. It'd be nice too if they could get him a holder and keep him. Switching up mid-year probably wasn't helpful.
I really think that with some competition he would preveil. I really think if we let him go, he goes somewhere and becomes an probowler i.e. David Akers |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I say we keep him. It's not like we can't cut him if he falters
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Give him a lil more time, push him with competition

I think with Hall it was an injury issue. |
I think with Hall it was an injury issue.
Hall was a suckage issue. He was OK for the Jets and I excited when he came here...blah. Better at tackling than kicking. Yeah and inury-prone too. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
John Hall was a veteran and Joe Gibbs loved vets, but Hall sucked. I know he was injured alot and stuff, but the man plain sucked.
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
In his 4 seasons here Hall was 54/69 - 78%
No great, not horrible, certainly not as bad as some seem to remember |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I'm so sick and tired of hearing that. Gano flat out sucks. How many under 30 yard FG does he have to miss? If a FG kicker causes everyone to sit on pens and needles for kicks under 30 yds, he needs to go.
If you are so sick and tired of hearing that, then lots of people must not agree with you. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I think with Hall it was an injury issue.
Hall was excellent when the Skins first acquired him, but was never the same after injuring his kicking leg during his first season here.
I still stand by my statement that Gano is the most talented kicker we've had since Lohmiller. I recall my youthful venting on the airwaves with Ken Beatrice, calling for Lohmiller's head when he missed a PAT and a short FG during a 1 point loss to the Giants in his rookie season. Thankfully, Gibbs had faith that Lohmiller's talent would prevail with more experience. I'm still very bullish that Gano's talent will shine through as well. Obviously, Shanahan still has a similar opinion, and hopefully he brings competition into camp, and pushes Gano to a higher level of performance next season. |

Gano's lining up right now for a 30 yd FG. Are you confident he'll make it? I didn't think so. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Good lord, its frickin January and we're not in the playoffs and we have a 17 page thread about Gano.
You guys have no idea who our kicker will be next year. I doubt Shanahan does either. |

The Akers argument is getting kind of old. We've released plenty of kickers that didn't go on to have a career like him. I'm not saying it wouldn't/couldn't happen but it's sure as hell not certain. |

Actually at 30 yards, he's as good as any other kicker in the division. Look the guy did not kick well this season but that does not mean he is not a good kicker. The whole team played lousy. Do we cut them all? Or give them time to mature in their position? Gano does have a lot of potential. Sometimes you have to give a player time. From what I have seen from Gano, he will be a good kicker in time. IMO. And again, give me a team that does not have to rely so heavily on a field goal kicker instead of a great field goal kicker. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I first started this thread last October and I am going to bring it up again ... dude kicked the game winner but he is a serious liability and there are no kicks (XPs excluded) which we can feel confident about with Gano as our kicker.
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I disagree. Hatters gon hat. He is a young kicker with a strong leg. Let's not "Akers" this one.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
no, he might have kicked a game winner, but his nack for missing field goals that should be gimmes, or at least 85/15 probabilities, is getting very concerning. His accuracy is below average, and lets not even mention how many damn kickoffs he boots out of bounds, giving the opposing team a start at the 40 and deflating the team. Guy has a negative impact on the entire team, and this is one area where u are supposed to be a NON factor, not a negative one. Find another young kicker that needs a chance, and let him try it out. IMO cant really get too much worse than Gano. Guy is a 60/40 prospect at best for anything over 30 yards, and that just aint cutting it, sorry.
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
In short, im just trying to make the point that Gano is in no way valuable to this team. There are plenty of other kickers out there that can be just as inconsistent, i think we know what we have with Gano. He just isnt good enough.

First of all, just looking at this season, the statistical sample is way too low say he tends to miss field goals. I don't recall him kicking a ton of kickoffs out of bounds in the past. I do recall, throughout the preseason and the last two games, that he has booted tons of KOs out of the endzone. Also, who is a better option? The Chargers are using Novak after their kicker got hurt. Do you actually think Novak is better than Gano? |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
he made the kick that won the game, and both of his non-blocked tries overall... what exactly is his margin for error in your opinion?

Im of the same opinion, but like Hoo says, we dont have any other options. Its kinda like Rex behind center, but we are 2-0 and we still could see improvement as the season goes on. Gano has alot to prove if he wants to be here next year. Lets see how it plays out. |

And yes, I would take Novak in an instant over Gano, no questions. The guy just cannot be counted on, not even in the simplest of kicks. Dependability is a paramount trait when you kick the ball. He isnt dependable. When your whole team is on edge when you go to kick a 35 yarder, or just a 29 yarder, there is something wrong. He isnt an NFL caliber kicker, sorry. You can defend the guy all u want, but if his ass would have gotten the 2nd blocked fg up today, as well as if he didnt shank the first attempt, then we wouldnt of needed a chip shot game winner. Win the game he did not. He was just very very lucky that we didnt come out of the contest with a Loss in spite of his horrid play. And yes, his play so far this season has been absolutley atrocious. I cannot believe people want this bum retained on this team after the way he has been playing at the end of last year and so far this year. Seriously, I cannot believe there is ONE person defending this bum. Cut him, likle I said before, there has to be one person on the waiver wire with just as much upside, well, id take an unknown at this point. Gano simply cannot be trusted. |

How do you know he was going to miss the blocked field goal? Is he supposed to block for his own FGs too? Just because you or any fans are uncomfortable when he kicks doesn't matter. The team doesn't pick and cut kickers based on fan opinion and comfort. He is the best option right now, despite what you may think. Also let's take a quick gander at Novak's stats vs. Gano's (not including this week). Graham Gano - Washington Redskins - Career Statistics - NFL - Yahoo! Sports Nick Novak - San Diego Chargers - Career Statistics - NFL - Yahoo! Sports His stats are better in almost all categories, namely FG percentage (70 vs. 63.3). Are you going to present some substance to back up your position or are you just going to make qualitative claims with no basis beside the fact you don't feel comfortable with him kicking? |

Agreed. It would be like me bumping a cut Dhall thread after Week 1 last year. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
So he missed a FG, (like no kickers miss them) he also redeemed himself and hit the game winner. CASE CLOSED!!

This. He's not the best in the league, but he's a pro kicker. The number of balls he gets for touchbacks is valuable in and of itself. |

Apparently Gano should have kicked it so hard that the pure force drove Cambell through the goal posts along with the ball. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
So he missed a FG, (like no kickers miss them) he also redeemed himself and hit the game winner. CASE CLOSED!!
He didn't miss a field goal, Carriker (app it was him) let 6'8 (Lemme repeat that again for emphasis: 6'8) Calais Campbell through his gap at which point Campbell blocked it. I was as pissed as anyone about it, but that's not on Gano. The second half kickoff was on Gano, but he's not the first kicker to boot one out of bounds before, and he won't be the last. He also made the kick that won the game for us. And we also don't know that anyone currently available is better, and if Gano has one thing going for him, it's his ability to completely eliminate returns by kicking it out of the back of the endzone. So yes, this thread is retarded. |

Not only is it a retarded bump, but it's a retarded arguing point. Some of you kids don't get the fact his FG was blocked, not missed due to him shanking it or hitting the upright. Not sure why you guys are foaming. The guy won us the damn game. Really, some of you fools need to start smoking weed, get laid, take a few shots or 20 and chill the hell out. News flash: WE WON! We are 2-0 and won a game today we normally would have lost. |

Thank you!! There are no other available kickers as good as Gano and he is getting better. We finally found a good kicker and people want to cut him for who? Mortensen? Yepremian? Stenerud? |
