I believe it's W/L record, then SoS, Then Division and Conference W/L, not sure in which order. Dallas having a better record than us in those means they pick later than us.
That's right. Both 6-10, same strength of schedule and Dallas is 3-3 Redskins 2-4. |

We'll have a stronger SoS if the Rams win, though. Go Seahawks! Maybe that will also cause them to re-consider the stupid seeding process. You should NOT get a home game on the merit of being in the most awful division (possibly in modern NFL history). Edit: This says we're behind Dallas because of SoS. Maybe I'll recount wins. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I know its probably been answered, but how does Dallas pick ahead of us if they are ahead of us in the division? Makes no sense, we have the same SoS.

Just re-calculated, the link I posted above is correct (I had the saints at 12-4 for some reason). SoS is the first tiebreaker. Dallas will be picking above us. We're 10th if the Seahawks win We're 11th if the Rams Win We're 10th if it's a tie. |

This would seem to indicate that we pick 8th but I don't know how it relates to the exact order of the draft.

No big deal. If anything they're among the teams I didn't mind picking before us, seeing as how both teams have very different needs. |

Hes not the 10th selection overall...he not a bad player. He didnt play this year, he was suspended. Its hard to improve your game when your knowingly commiting rules infractions and being suspended. Second round, maybe |

IMO, Gabbert is a Franchise QB. I would trade up to get him. I would like to see the Skins pick up as many draft picks as possible prior to the draft and then trade down in the 1st Round to pick up another 2nd or 3rd Round pick. We might as well accept the fact that we are in a team-building phase and act accordingly. If Haynesworth won't get with the program, then make the deal with the Titans and trade him for a 4th Round pick. I'd trade McNabb for a 4th Round pick, as well. We've got a lot of holes in this team. At this point, I'd concern myself less with trying to move up in the draft to select a few players who could possibly become stars than I would with having a greater number of picks to use on players who have a chance to become solid contributors. I like your FA targets. As much as I'd like to see Vincent Jackson in B&G, we haven't fared very well with big money FA signings so maybe we should just go after reasonably priced players to upgrade positions where possible. |

Yeah i've heard that McHype(Shay) just put Gabbert at #5 in his last mock. I didn't think he would be rated that high. I was thinking that Gabbert/Locker would have mid-1st grades and w/ Newton and Mallett coming out it would push a QB down to or us. I think both Locker and Gabbert both are very similar and very good prospects. But, i'm against trading up for anyone. Except for Suh last year. |

In my opinion, one and that's Luck if he comes out. Otherwise, the rest are basically fringe first rounders due to need more than skill sets. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
My latest theory is that we will trade up with the Broncos and Take Locker. This makes sense for both teams, because Denver has a QB in Orton and a young guy in Tebow that they have to evaluate before drafting another one. Denver would get more picks which is what they need. I think it would take swapping one's, our number two and next years number one. I know it sounds crazy, but I think with all the success that teams have had drafting young QB's lately thats the price to move up. Hopefully, we at least get some later round draft choices in return.

Way too high a price to pay. I could see us trading up to get Luck though. I know it might look like we don't have much to offer, but Carolina may be quite willing to trade out of that pick due to the $ it will take to sign Luck (or whoever is #1). Something like McNabb, AH & our #1 for their #1 might be a starting point. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
McNabb, AH, and our #1? No way. AH and McNabb carry nearly no value. Also, you rarely see players packaged in big draft day deals. Everyone seems to want picks. I'd start with 1st, 2nd, and Cooley -- if I wanted to move up, which I don't.

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Wake up guys the hand writing is on the wall, read and behold!
With the 10th pick the Skins will have to go NT/DE. 2nd round pick will also be defense, OLBer. 3rd round pick from the Haynesworth trade will be QB. I realize these picks are not sexy but they are needed. There's a possibility that we use the 2nd pick on a OLineman if Wilson or Jackson is deemed worthy of taking over the OLBer spot. |

Orton will be traded. It's Tebow's team and Orton is the odd man out. But, I am sure Denver will keep its 1st pick and go QB, especially since they have reincarnated Elway to their front office. |

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
If Luck comes out the #1 pick will not even be on the table. It will probably take three or four #1 picks for them to even return a call.
|
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Luck is the only player I could conceive of making a move for and I am not sure what it would even take and whether it could be done. I'm pretty convinced he's a franchise guy but you'd have to give up an awful lot to get him and then you'd have no team around him for 5 years. We should have lost out to get a better pick...haha.

I would offer this year's 1st and 2nd rounder + McNabb and Haynesworth and if necessary next year's 1st. See if they listen. The only player I would make that trade for would be Luck, he is worth it. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I actually think us trading into the first pick and getting Luck is a real option. Carolina is a small market and I doubt they want to pay 1st overall money, they just drafted a guy who was supposed to go in the first round and who they can't really evaluate yet due to his poor supporting cast, and they have so many needs I'm sure they would love to get a few extra picks either this year or in the future.
If we could get Luck for our 1st, D McNabb, next years 1st, and next years 3rd I would be all about that. You've gotta think if you think this guy is the next great QB to come out what would you give up for him (knowing what you know now if you could go back what would you give up for Peyton). With all that being said I don't really like any of the other QB's Locker never really put up good numbers (And was aweful this year) and is mostly rated highly due to his measurables (I don't know about you but I don't want a guy who is just a workout warrior as my QB) Gabbert came from the same system Chase Daniel put up huge numbers in, the only difference is his size. Newton I actually think might be good but he seems like a big risk. Mallett apparently has some maturity/ character concerns. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Carolina Panthers will not trade from their spot. This is a team 7 years removed and three points added to being Super Bowl champions. They're not as small market as some may think and would want nothing more than to fire John Fox, draft Andrew Luck, trade Jimmy Clausen (would make no sense to keep him around) and get the new era rolling. Sure they have terrible depth and could use 3 or 4 extra first rounders at the expense of Luck, but they're still going to be finishing bottom 5 waiting for their next chance at a stud QB. Realistically this just doesn't make sense.
Now for the Redskins, if Shanny likes one of Mallett (very unlikely) or Gabbert you draft them at #10. If he doesn't like either of them and feels that he has a better option of finding that guy who can replace Andre Carter in Von Miller or Ryan Kerrigan then you draft him. Imagine if we had drafted Mark Sanchez and not Brian Orakpo.... I can't even describe the amount of pressure Sanchez would have been under and how many analysts would have written him off. Go with what fits our system, we're not in position to take those huge risks unless Gabbert or Mallett have an outstanding day during a pre-draft invite. If I had any say in this I would go Fairley/Green/Miller/Kerrigan Round 1. Round 2 would be more defense and round 5 would be a project QB behind Rex (Yes I said it..) preferably Pat Devlin. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
I've heard the Panthers aren't ready to give up on Clausen and will try to build around him.

Wait until their new head coach comes aboard. "Hi coach! We're going to go with Clausen and trade Luck to somebody else" ":angry-smi" |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Would Claussen be a good fit for the Redskins, if Carolina decides to trade him instead of drafting a QB in the draft? He has a year's experience in the NFL which gives him a head start every rookie except Luck. Any thoughts?

McNabb & Haynesworth are worth nothing to Carolina. It will take lots of draft picks to get their attention. Based on the draft value chart which is outdated but still a decent guideline, all the draft picks you mention would still leave us a couple hundred points short of the 3000 points that the #1 overall pick is worth. And if luck is as good as advertised then you will need to go above the 3000 points to get their attention. |

Of course they're not going to come out and dismiss the possiblity of drafting him right now. Still a long way to go. The assumption that Clausen is 100% out of the picture isn't true. |
