The latest mock that Tim and Pat did on Moving The Chains had the Skins taking Kaepernick in the 2nd round. Just tossing that out there.

Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
So from what I've gathered over the past few days, here's what I think are their preferred draft scenarios
#10 -If Quinn is there, he's a Redskin. Been saying this for months, and I still believe it to be true -If Quinn is not there, it may mean Von Miller is (though really not likely). In that case they take him -If neither are there, there is no one else they really like at 10 and will look to move down #41 -If available Andy Dalton is probably their guy. Locker and Ponder also very strong possibilities (again, if available) -If none of the above are available, they probably look to move down again and add a DT and perhaps RB (unless someone like Mark Ingram is actually sitting there at 41) -If they don't get a QB at #41, look for them to target McElroy or Tyrod Taylor in the later rounds (and yes, they're still very interested in Young) So, to summarize- Ideal scenario with no trades for Skins at this point looks to be Quinn and perhaps Dalton (though Dalton is not far and away above other QB options, personally I take Locker over Dalton) As for FA, same guys I've mentioned before Davin Joseph, perhaps Ryan Harris, and now looks like Vince Young too. Don't know the latest on Sidney Rice interest and haven't figured out who this RB they're supposedly interested in is. I think Jammal Brown comes back, my opinion. But Rogers is increasingly a long shot. He simply wants too much money. Nothing new on Haynesworth and McNabb. Thought they wanted to bring back Grossman, but that was before all this VY talk. |
i agree aldon smith i think is a great compliment to Orakapo. better than Quinn because of his athleticism
Aldon Smith has a similiar build to Andre Carter, maybe Jevon Kearse. Does Smith fit what we need him to do? |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
^^ Thanks SS. That is very helpful. My preferences are slightly different but I can live happily with the basic scenarios you have described.

To let McNabb and Brown walk after one year would be a major frown on decision making and planning. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
thanks for the update SS. I really hope im wrong about Quinn, hate that pick at 10. I like DE/LB from Cal or Aldon Smith better than Quinn. Von Miller is not gonna be there. I pray we can move back from 10 spot and pick up a pick...
Glad we are picking up a young QB, but not Young at QB. Ill get behind whomever, but Young already caused one head coach to leave, Shanny very easily could be the next with this move of choosing McNabb over Young...so McNabb is not the right fit, but Young is...??? ok we will see |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
Yeah if we bring VY in I don't see REX coming back, I'd be ok with a QUINN-DALTON draft although I really want Locker, either way this team just needs TALENT!
Aldon Smith has a similiar build to Andre Carter, maybe Jevon Kearse. Does Smith fit what we need him to do?
He's a very versatile player on the line and also drops back into coverage. If they play him at OLB maybe we get lucky and he turns into "The Stork"...Ted Hendricks. :) |

I agree. I really don't think any combination of picks will make me truly happy because I'll know that we still have so many holes to fill, but I'd be semi pleased to just bring in talent regardless of position. If we can get good picks for McNabb/Haynesworth and we get a good deal in a trade back and are able to pick up a couple impact players plus a couple more solid contributors from this draft then I'll be happy. Any qb we pick I will be hesitant about, but in hindsight I'll also be happy if we get a franchise qb. Realistically these scenarios won't happen, but there's still hope until the draft. |

I actually love Dalton now as a prospect but I doubt he makes it down to 41. If anything he seems like a late first, top 5 second kind of guy. Also, not that it matters but were Vince and Rak teammates at one point? |

Rex's first priority is having a job. Getting a chance to start is a bonus. No way they simply let him walk just because they bring in a guy like Young. The thing that worries me is that Young already had a bench happy coach in Fischer, and if given his pick of the litter would rather have a thick and thin type guy. I will admit though I'm intrigued at the possibility of adding Young. Guy has had troubles, but it's all been small stuff that doesn't reflect what type of person he is. Also would be a hell of an answer to Vick if he panned out here. He's certainly more talented then Plummer, and has a lot more raw talent at this point then McNabb. I think the best thing that could happen to them is signing Young off the street allowing them to draft an OLB and NT or DE with their first two picks. I'd also love to acquire an early to mid third and acquire Ponder but that might be pushing our luck in more ways then one. |
Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
Adding Young would not be via trade, so they'll wait for the Titans to cut him from what I hear
And adding Young or any FA QB does not deter them from drafting a QB, just not sure what round that will be in |

I like the footage I saw of him on NFLN Redskins on the Clock. I think as long as we go defense, QB with the first two picks, no matter who they are (provided we aren't reaching for them) we will have had a successful draft. |
VY is the QB Fat Albet. Really they are both talented but lazy and unmotivated
You can't even start to compare Haynesworth to Young. Young has had problems with depression that has affected his performance but at least he always plays hard. Haynesworth is simply an asshole that doesn't care about anyone but himself. I've never met him personally but everything I've read and seen of Young suggest that he's a good person. And like I said before, if Shanahan can turn Plummer into a pro bowl QB then Young should be a snap. |

Re: 2011 NFL Mock Draft thread.
JJ Watt:
Strengths Hard-working player with great size and surprising athleticism for the position. Exhibits raw natural strength and is able to drive blockers into the backfield. Has tremendous explosion and is generally the first defensive lineman out of his stance and into the opponent. He uses this combination to get players off balance and then finishes them off with outstanding use of hands and pass-rush technique. He utilizes a variety of inside and outside moves including arm overs, rips, push-pulls, spins, swims, clubs, etc. Can dip his shoulder and turn the edge as a pass rusher. Has the ability to finish when he gets to the QB. Has the long arms to knock balls down at the LOS. Watt is a relentless player who never gives up on a play and shows excellent conditioning without wearing down late in the games. As a run defender, he uses his strength at the POA to hold the edge, finds the ball, and can then stack and shed to make the play. Shows good straight-line speed to pursue the play and track down ball-carriers. Shows good instincts and consistently works hard to improve. Versatile player who could line up at a number of positions on the line and be productive. Valuable special teamer with four career blocked kicks. Well-respected player on and off the field. Natural leader and A+ character. Weaknesses Not nearly as athletic as some of the other DEs in this draft class, and only has two full years of experience playing DE at the collegiate level. Still learning to refine his technique as many of his plays are a result of his wrecking-ball type of play on the field, just overpowering and outworking the opponent. Needs to show more discipline on the field. Will occasionally bite on misdirection. Can get upfield too quickly, opening holes underneath for ball-carriers. Projection Watt is going to be a coveted player come April as his work ethic, production, versatility, and character all should weigh highly in his being one of the first DEs selected in the 2011 NFL Draft. He's probably the top 5-tech prospect in this draft, and his ability to play a number of positions on the DL in a variety of schemes will only help his cause. #DBWH |
