Pretty sure the Dickerson comment was meant as sarcasm....

Perhaps we need a "sarcasm indicator" for postings here. Maybe sarcasm should always be in a specific color or in bold italics or something like that?

Undisclosed pick. Probably a 6th or so.

That's what I heard, too. They mentioned it on the radio yesterday, but I didn't see anything in print. Everything online says undisclosed.

Hightower should wear that.

29.

I actually had a Dickerson Rams poster on my wall as a kid, early in his career. :D

Had a Walter Payton up too.

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.

By Mike Jones: Washington Post

Tim Hightower with Redskins ‘for a reason’

Tim Hightower was on his way to Flagstaff, Ariz., where the Arizona Cardinals were holding training camp when he got a call the call on Sunday. The fourth-year running back learned that he had been traded to the Washington Redskins.

“I had put the last of my stuff in the car and was getting ready for another year of being a Cardinal,” Hightower said on Tuesday. “But it came at the right time and I feel like I’m here for a reason.”

Now, Hightower is back on the East Coast and right in his backyard.

The Alexandria native starred at Episcopal High School and the University of Richmond before being drafted in the fifth round by the Cardinals in 2008. But on Tuesday, he began getting acclimated to the team he grew up cheering for, and the team that he hopes to eventually start for at running back.

Hightower believes that he is a good fit for Mike Shanahan’s zone blocking scheme. When asked why, he offered a simple answer.

“I’m a running back and they like to run the ball a lot, so I’m excited,” Hightower said with a laugh.

He continued: “It really resembles a lot of stuff I did in college. The zone schemes are pretty clear cut, they get downhill and allow the running back to be physical. It will allow me to get into a rhythm. I consider myself a rhythm running back. I like getting into my groove and I feel like I have a great opportunity to do that here.”

In addition to his running abilities, the Redskins like Hightower’s versatility, particularly his pass-protection skills. He said the importance of that skill was instilled in early in his professional career.

“When you play with Kurt Warner, you’ve got to learn how to pass protect,” Hightower grinned. “He likes to throw the football and for you to protect him. That’s just something I’m used to. My first year I was given an ultimatum that you either block or you don’t play, so I picked that up pretty quick. Now it’s something I take pride in.”

Good quotes: Preferred running style: "going downhill and allowing the running back to be physical and really get into a rhythm."

Playing in the NFC East: "That’s my kind of football: grinding out tough, hard-nosed football. That’s me. That’s who I am. So, I’m going to embrace it.”

Hightower could be a very good fit here. Could be the biggest add in FA.

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.

I have always picked him up in fantasy leagues, he is usually a really good fantasy value late in the draft. Playing here might just up his value a bit. If it is between him and ATV, Ill take Hightower any day. Torain is a servicable 2nd RB. Flashes of greatness, but no consistency. If Hightower can limit those fumbles, he will do fine

mooby 08-03-2011 01:23 PM

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.

I didn't think much about this trade when it first happened, but since then I've realized it might be one of the biggest deals we make this whole offseason. Especially if Torain is injured again. This guy's got a great attitude, and like has been mentioned, if he can cut down the fumbles there's no reason why Hightower can't be great.

I think that AP was one in 50 his worst season, these figures are one in 47ish

Avg is around one in 75-80 carries

hooskins 08-08-2011 03:17 PM

He already has fumbled 3 times in a bit over a week of practice...

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.

I want to be a big fan of Hightower, but until he can prove he can hold on to the ball, he absolutely cannot be the starter or get a lot of carries. Fumbling the ball defeats the purpose of the running game.

Re: Arizona RB Tim Hightower traded to Redskins.

I expect Bobby Turner will be screaming at him daily until it's fixed. But I'm not sure it's as big a deal as we're making it early. He had five fumbles last season, but he went a lot of games without having one. They were spaced out.

I'm not too worried about it right now.

I am. Any guy with the faintest possibility of being fumble prone scares the bejesus out of me. (Side note on capitalization, Bejesus, BeJesus?) That can be the make or break for any game, especially giving it away close to your own end zone.

sexy rexy must scare the ever living s outta you

and tryful yours post got me curious so i just randomly looked up a few guys and while you might be right about the league average, i would say that the top teir backs only lose the ball maybe every 1 in 100 carries. arain foster for example is 113.75 carries inbetween each fumble, even guys like fred taylor who has been in the league over 12 years only fumbles every 104 touches. i had no idea hightower was this fumble prone, it will def be something to keep an eye on

I wasn't to crazy about Hightower. When we first acquired him I saw it as kind of a 'meh' move. After watching him though I have to say the potential is there for him to break out in this system. Hightower could easily be the best move of the offseason

My uncle hasn't had a drink in 7 days, now what?

Your uncle could now go 7 years without having a drink if he so wishes. Just like Hightower can learn to secure the ball.

p.s. it's probably harder for your uncle to give up drinking than it is for Hightower to stop fumbling.
