Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I always go to the stores late at night. Less lines and usually this early there's still some things left. Luckily I went there yesterday and got milk and eggs, so now I just need some canned goods.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Think im gonna give in and buy a generator today
WOW...the project path has really changed from last night. Instead of the sharp turn into the tidewater area of Virginia, it seems now the to take a more conventional turn with landfall between Delaware and South Jersey. Probably gonna affect the game in Pittsburgh. |
We're right here on the border between PA and NJ on the Delaware about an hour north of Philly. I'm really hoping we don't see anything more than a little rain. Oh, and my wife is ready to have our first child any day now. Yay hurricanes.

I told my wife if she is born on Wednesday or whenever this thing hits, middle name might have to be Hurricane. Suffice to say, I've been assured that will not happen. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Anyone having any hurricane issues yet? Not much stirring in DC. A little drizzle.
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Rain just picked up in Stephens City and it's starting to get windy. Nothing bad yet, but you can tell it's on the way.
We are forcasting for 70 mph+ wind gusts tomorrow as well as anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of rain possible. Schools here are already closed. The grocery stores are like the walking dead show. Literally they are almost out of food. I went to the Food Lion, and they were totally out of bottled water, milk, bread, and most canned foods. Funny thing is, we are almost guaranteed to lose electricity at some point so i wonder what good the canned food will do anybody... |

She's nervous because she just heard that the pressure change from a hurricane can induce labor, but that's probably an old wives tale.

A little rain and mild winds here, about 25 miles south of DC. I was talking to my boss yesterday about the storm, and he goes "we'll definitely be open on Monday. I mean, it's just a little rain. You'll be fine driving in (I have about a 20 mile commute to work)" There's no way I'm going in if we're in the midst of hurricane force winds and rain. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
what is being predicted for the DC area?
|
what is being predicted for the DC area?
According to my wife, Armeggedon and the arrival of the four horsemen. I expect a lot of rain and high winds through Wednesday. Crossing my fingers on keeping power but not hopeful of it. |
Why are we hating on the U!?! Lol.

Its suppose to peak here round 7pm tomorrow night through 9am Tuesday morning.
Great, who here likes hurricanes at night? ugh, i have 22 trees on almost an acre of property. Not gonna be fun |
Good luck to all that's in the path.
Be safe God bless |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
After looking at the weather for the area...it may not be to bad. Like 50-60 mph gusts and sustained to 40..ish. Well, if you have a few things prepared, it may not be to bad. Nice time of year to lose power if it has to be. Not to hot...thats a biggie. Good luck to all of you and hopefully you have plenty of chainsaw gas.
And naturally warm beer is only bad when compared to cold beer...enjoy! |

I'm tracking Hurricane Sandy from Mars, and so far it's super-tiny and like half a billion miles away. So everything's fine! Expand |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Sucks it is during the night the worst part. You are up all night checking the house; kids can't sleep, power goes out complete darkness, etc...
Groan going to be a long night. |

Winds just starting to pick up over the last hour or so here in eastern PA.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Almost 6pm and shit is starting to get real in DC. Friends have lost power, trees are going down. My mom is stranded in North Carolina since trains aren't running up the NE corridor.
Currently I still have power. I'm in Northeast DC, I dunno how long that's going to last. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
If your power comes to you aerially via a "Pole Line" with lots of trees in close proximity......Your done as eventually some tree limbs will come down and take out the lines with them.
IF your power comes to you via "underground utilities" you may be ok! If not...power goes out, drink the beer while it's cold or go....native... Good luck...be safe! |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Got home from work at about 5:15 today, we are experiencing what i believe is a full-blown hurricane. We have sustained winds about 50mph, and some gusts have been above 75 mph, according to the local news.
I got soaked walking around my house inspecting everything. My side yard between our house and my neighbor (who is my father and step-mother), is a small lake right now. We have a tree line full of old trees here, and I wisely moved my spare pickup and my Jeep into our front yard, out of the path of any limbs or trees that may fall. *UPDATE* - I have one tree that fell on the right of my house, by a vacant field, it was small and did not hit anything, but there will be limbs and general destruction to clean up. The wind right now is absolutley roaring. It is even louder outside. I don't think i have ever experienced anything like this since living in Winchester/Stephens City all of my life. And tomorrow could be even worse. I don't know how long the power will last, as the lights are flickering now and again. I have only an oil furnace, no backup heat, but plenty of flashlights, candles, and blankets. I will go next door to my Dad's if things get real bad, he has a fireplace and a basement if the winds get any worse. I have to admit at 28 years old, i'm afraid here. May God be with everyone and their families until this horrible storm is over. |

BUT on the bright side, while 70mph winds is nothing to take lightly, your house should be fine (not a mobile home right?). Hopefully nothing of any consequence will hit it. If your moving over to your dad's place, watch your ass. There will be lots of flying crap in the air and none of it is good for your head.... Take care SS! |

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I saw that photo making its rounds on Twitter earlier.
Haven't had too much damage here, just part of the tree here fell down and missed the fence, so so far so good, but this wind is definitely wild. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Just lost power across the street. Mine's still on for now. :/
