Re: Chris Cooley Released
I think this would be a great move. Cooley is in great shape and adds a lot on the field and off.

Sure. He came into camp in great shape and when he's healthy he's very productive. Also a great guy in the lockeroom. Dude bleeds Burgundy and Gold. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
If Cooley comes back, who do you think we cut?
I am thinking they cut someone to move to the practice squad like, Jordan Bernstein, Crezdon Butler, Aldrick Robinson, or LeRibeus, Logan Paulsen, Though I am not sure if they are all practice squad eligible. Frankly, I am thinking Paulsen if PS eligible since he is average or Bernstein since 5 safeties is crazy, we need 5 CBs, and I doubt they risk a 3rd round pick even if he's not that great right now. I don't think they risk our WRs. I would much rather have Cooley than Paulsen or Bernstein...wouldn't you? Hopefully they sign him for backup compensation + reefer insurance premium. |

How that Chris Cooley Convo will go next week
MS: Chris we would like to resign you, but under one condition. CC: whats that? MS: That you gain 60 pounds so we can move you to RT. CC: ...Niles sucks! |

Re: Chris Cooley Released
Cooley said when reached early Friday afternoon that he was unaware a meeting with the Redskins had been set for next week, but he would be receptive to discussing a possible return with the team. “I don’t know,” Cooley said. “I can’t guarantee what will happen. But this is where I want to live and play,so I’d definitely be open to talk.”
He didn't come to camp healthy. He was slow and his knees were done, if you ask me they still are to be honest. Sure, they might feel good right now, but after going full speed for a couple of games, taking hits, they're going to fall apart as they have the last couple of seasons. I love the dude, he is a great lockerrom guy and he does bleed Burgundy and Gold, but there's a time we have to say the guy is done as a Redskin. Bring him back as a coach, sure, no biggie, but right now there's more important needs for the team than to have a backup TE/FB. |

However, Darrel Young has not been healthy, and I'm not quite convinced that the Niles Paul at TE experiment is going to work, so it's quite possible that the 'skins will need Cooley back at either the FB or TE position. I also believe that if Chris Cooley is done, then the 'skins front office and coaching staff wouldn't even entertain the idea of Cooley coming back in any shape or form, especially since his roster spot would mean having to let someone else go. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
I'm not sure what kind of on-field impact he has left in him, but if they offered him a job in the Redskins organization I would be fine with that.
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
If anything, if Cooley could come in and just be a solid blocker for RGIII and company, that would mean more to me than him coming in and being an offensive weapon.
|
Cooley catching passes from the fullback position is a plus. He gives us good depth at 2 positions as well. Would love to have him back at a discount.

Absolutely. And every report I've read said he looked good in camp, ran well and lost 10 to 15 pounds. Even read a report why the Cowgirls should sign him. Writing him off is a little premature. |
Every report I read was that he looked slow. Real slow.

This. But it wouldnt hurt to have him at depth. Give him Banks' spot. I guarantee he will be of more value than that little overhyped midget. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Everything I heard was that he was given basically nothing to do so it's tough to know just fast or whatever he is. But the reality is speed was never an asset of his. And I just don't want to hold onto him for a yet too long

Re: Chris Cooley Released
From what I've heard, and can make of it (keep in mind this is just my take on it). If Niles Paul struggles on Sunday, Chris Cooley will be brought back for vet min until Paul can get up to the speed they want him to be. If Paul looks fine Sunday, sounds like the odds are against Cooley returning.
Again, that's what I took from it. |

Yeah, sounds like Cooley would be insurance or something. Not too sure, but yeah, maybe they are more worried about Paul than we think? |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Niles Paul was a no-show. I saw him on special teams (on the field, not making plays).
Sundberg is now hurt. I say bring Cooley in to longsnap, plus back up at FB and TE too. He can still do a lot for this team...at a fairer salary for the team. |

Sav Rocca, longsnapper. Alexander can punt. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Couldn't tell which announcer said we'll talk to Cooley this week but I'd be for it. He's still faster than Paulsen and rumbles down the field after contact just as well. Paul may not be ready for reg season action at TE either. However, who gets the boot if they re-sign Cooley? We have a pretty solid roster and don't want to lose the talent already there...
|
Re: Chris Cooley Released
We need a back up DB now along with a long snapper. I love Cooley, but I am not sure we really need him anymore. Davis was fine, and Paulson came up big, even if it was just one catch.

Both of those guys are not going to be taking a Roster spot, that isn't being vacated by the injured player. IMO they can find an extra roster spot at QB3 ;) |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Cut Rex. Re-sign Crompton to PS..roster problems solved.
If Crompton is no longer eligible, just find someone who is. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released

Re: Chris Cooley Released
***Just heard a rumor that Grossman is to be cut and Cooley to be re-signed.***
At this point, it's just a rumor. Can not verify.
Its a good move. Cooley could play QB in a pinch if RGIII and Cousins went down (i'm just saying, he's Chris effing Cooley). its not like Grossman is going to get any interest on the open market. If RGIII and Cousins were going to miss games, i'm sure we could just pick him right back up. |
***Just heard a rumor that Grossman is to be cut and Cooley to be re-signed.***
At this point, it's just a rumor. Can not verify.
There was a TV shot Sunday of RG3, Cousins, and Grossman and Grossman was in street clothes. I guess inactive. Cousins is the backup. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
Yes, he was inactive. I think that said Cousins has the confidence with the coaches that he'd be ready to step in. From what we saw in the preseason, Rex had one diaster of a game and one decent game. Cousins was consistently better than him.
This makes Rex expendable and his role of "veteran mentor" unnecessary. We can clearly see that Griffin needs no tutoring from him. Also, if Griffin DOES get hurt, Cousins is more mobile than Grossman and there would be less of a change in schemes that could be run. I hope this rumor is true. Right now, we have a backfield of Morris/Helu/Royster and Banks sporadically as a gadget play at HB with only Young at FB. Having Cooley available for FB would be valuable. |
Re: Chris Cooley Released
If you bring Cooley back... cut Banks.
In other Cooley news it came out that he and Christy filed for divorce in late August and had been separated since January. Apparently it was an amicable part without the need for the court system. |
