The Wapo has your reason Chico!

"As of now, that means the Redskins will carry six safeties and four cornerbacks. The Redskins feel comfortable with their secondary though, because safeties Brandon Meriweather, Tanard Jackson and DeJon Gomes all played cornerback in college, which gives them some flexibility at that position."

I started a thread about Slaton a few years ago when he had fumbling issues and fell out of favor in Houston.

Doesn't Madden require 5 CB on the roster.. Hmm, that crafty Shanahallen must be up to something..

Easy to fall out of favor in Houston when your competition is Arian Foster & Ben Tate. Hopefully he's worked on those fumbling problems...

His fumbling is what brought on his exit in Houston. He actually performed very well for them, but you got to hold onto the rock.

Just slide Lorenzo Alexander into your missing CB5 spot on the depth chart.

I'm sure he will also end up the back up fullback and a 7th safety when 4 go down to injury or poor play.

Do you really see any of them playing corner in the nfl? But as long as were looking for a silver lining if we have injuriesat the qb position i always played steady qb when i was young.

Could you imagine Gtripp's post if Skins lined up D Hall and Brandon Meriweather at both CB positions. Classic.

Redskins cut list
By John Keim August 31, 2012 | 3:05 pm

Here is the Redskins unofficial cut list as of 3 p.m., as verified by numerous media outlets (including this one). They need to get to 53 by 9 p.m. (so they have to cut 22 today; this list contains 18 names):
RB Tim Hightower
WR Terrence Austin
RB Tristan Davis
QB Jonathan Crompton
C Erik Cook
CB Brandyn Thompson
CB David Jones

OT Tom Compton

OT Willie Smith

CB Travon Bellamy

OL Grant Garner

LB Bryan Kehl

LB Brian McNally

DE Doug Worthington

DL Delvin Johnson

DL Marlon Favorite

LB Donnell Holt

FB Dorson Boyce (note: this is not official, but I was told it would be eventually as he has an injury and a settlement is being discussed. He’s a potential practice squader).

It's going to be:

Wilson and Meriweather at CB.

Madieu Williams at SS.

D-Hall at FS.

Re: Official Redskins Final Cuts Thread

You know, I was looking through the salary cap projections, and I've come to a couple conclusions.

- Santana Moss, unless he has a 85 catch, 1200 yard 9 td year, is prolly gone next year.
- Deangelo Hall - Unless he gets ridiculous as a shut down corner this year, which will not happen, will be gone next year.
- Will Montgomery - Unless he plays great, he could also be on the block next year
-Josh Morgan - has to become a great number two option for RG3 right off the bat, cause this penny pinching staff isn't going to want to pay another 5 and a half million for just an average receiver next year unless he shows some real good stuff that separates himself from a younger, cheaper alternative that could possibly have greater upside.

Was just looking through our salary situation as it looks this year and next year. I guess we only saved around .2 million towards the cap from Hightower, but Jamaal Brown might be gone soon........

I hate to see Tim Hightower go. But obviously there were serious concerns with his knee again. To be from the D.C. area and to grow up a Redskin fan and then to some day play for that team was a dream come true. I hope he catches on somewhere else soon.

There's gotta be a better way for the League to handle drug abuse problems then suspension.

hall would have been gone this year if there was anyone to get. next year has OTs and CBs the FA class, but i imagine both moss and hall will be gone... that's like 18mill or something crazy right there. cooley was the other big money guy... brown is out too i'd guess, and morgan leaving wouldn't surprise me.

honestly the WR corp is going to make the 2013 roster decisions this year. we have 3 big money guys, and unless morgan shows well, we'll probaly be down to garcon and our depth for next year.

Seemed to me that Morgan was Hankerson insurance anyway.

Per Glazer Jackson is suspended "indefinitely" bit it won't be reviewed for a year.

Just to be clear, this means Jackson is gone for the year, correct?

No. That is the exact way they need to deal with it. It's a privilege to play in the NFL, not a right. Many employers drug test and would fire you on the first offense, these guys get plenty of chances and have counseling and help there for them. They chose to do what they want.

+1, they get way more chances than the "real world" folks.

No, he doesn't count against the 53. And we can retain his rights by putting him on the "reserve/bonehead" list. Wait, my bad, that's "reserve/suspended" list.

The only surprise is that Terrence Austin got cut. He's been a project the last two years and I was hoping he would finally be able to make the 53-man roster instead of being allocated to the practice squad. He has great speed, runs very nice routes...I'm sure someone will pick him up.

So refresh me here;

Tanards suspended for the year for something he recently did while he was on the redskins that we didn't know about till now, or he did this a long time ago, MS DS and BA knew about this risk and now its official?

and what is 'this' that he's being suspended for? Marijuana? PCP? blow? steroids?

LOVE that Banks made it. We have at least one guy that's a proven threat to score from 91 yards out. Hope Banks doesn't get cocky, considering how well Robinson has done, too.

I hope we did trade Hightower and didn't just plain release him. We could have gotten something for him a mid to lower round pick at least. Just releasing him when Detroit is in dire straits in the RB dept wasn't prudent.
