He was a graduate assistant for one year at UCLA before Gruden gave him a job in the NFL. It had absolutely everything to do with his father. Hey good for him. Wish my father was an NFL coach. Dont kid yourself though his NFL existence has EVERYTHING to do with his father. It happens all the time - not just in coaching but in Hollywood and the music industry , etc etc. Big deal. I would give my kid a job like that if i had the power to do so also.

As in all things, relationships undisputably open doors. Generally though, and particularly in the ultra competitive world of professional sports, once in - it's on you to man up. I would suggest that Kyle has done just that and, from what I can tell, is very well respected in the league.
Jumped the route? Did you watch the play? Jumping a route is either undercutting it or making the cut better than the receiver. The guy who intercepted was the safety behind the play. No body jumped the route on the int. RG3 double pumped it and never should have released it. That ball was complete if Paulsen doesnt stop his route. It was a mis-communication between a TE and QB who dont normally play a lot together.
Sorry, you're not going to the get the Goat "Strong Post" stamp of approval with comments like these - (1) You failed to criticize Mike Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan, or Haslett and (2) you compound this failing by pointing out something that demonstrates it was not Kyle's fault. Accuracy be damned! I don't care if the ball was beyond the intended receiver - the safety jumped the route.

As far as the defender sitting back, what you mean is he was playing safety. And last I checked, every safety in the league plays safety, except M. Williams apparently.
Brilliant on so many levels.

As to Cooley, and as others have said, I get it. I guess, though, that I think it was time to move on and he really adds nothing to the offense. At this time of year, however, pickings are slim and, I suppose, better to have a plug and play guy than hope to find some developmental guy who is a liability every time he steps on the field (insert Niles Paul joke here).
Why Kellen Winslow? Why someone with a bad knee who's been on three teams in less than two years and, despite being only 29 years old doesn't have teams knocking down his door?
I agree. If anyone cares to look in the Oxford English Dictionary under 'Team Albatross' there's a picture of Kellen Winslow, AKA The Soldier.

I'd much rather have a true Redskins on roster who desperately wanted to go out on his shield (and now gets that chance) than some immature super hero who has never got it done.

Coooooooooooleeeeeeey!

I don't think adding Cooley was necessary either. Would rather see Young, even Grant in an expanded role in the passing offense

Well he has been an OC for what six years? Had some really good talent in Houston, whom by the way, have not missed a beat since he left. What he did here in Washington his first two years was - well- no comment. Now RG-3 is making him a genius again. Man up? Maybe. Step in a big pile of shit when they landed RG-3 to save his job? More like it.

I watched some of the game last nite on NFL rewind.I was impressed with Paulson and he looked quicker then Cooley has the past few years. He had some nice catches.Paul on the other hand drops a td pass in his hands.I like Cooley but I would like the order to be Paulson,Cooley,Paul

Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley

Paul is a beast on ST. TE? not so much. Paulson, Cooley, Paulson, IMO should be depth. Though I think they are trying to get Paul into the flex position of the pistol like Davis was to catch the quick slant off the playaction read.

Well there is never a better time to shine than stepping in for an injuried player. Pauleson was top notch last Sunday, I have a hard time believing Paul could have made the same plays. Who knows maybe he steps his game up, but he is a beast on special teams.

Yeah I think Paul's expected increase role on offense is one reason why they signed KW. To make up for Paul on special teams

Your argument is one of distanced generalizations and thereby is not fair to Kyle. You have to look directly at how Kyle does his job.

For sure, last year I criticized Kyle a lot on this board. Certainly he had little talent to work with but I felt he did a poor job of maximizing what talent he had, which is his job.

This year, however, Kyle has been bringing it. It is not just that he has a brilliant new QB. On a weekly basis this year Kyle has been excellent in exploring new wrinkles and putting Gryphon in a position to succeed. Our exciting new offense is more than just RGIII - it is also Kyle's doing a bang-up job of getting people into positions for success.

Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley

I hope you all know that Niles is arguably our best blocker on the team that isn't on the OL. I watched parts of the Giants game last night and he was blowing back LBs, Safeties and did fairly well against the DL (well except Pierre Paul, but no one can really block that guy one on one). His catching will improve the more he gets thrown to.

Re: Fred Davis Done for Season. Welcome Back Cooley

Good post Lotus. It just doesn't make sense to put all the blame on Kyle for when things weren't going well with Rex and Beck at the helm, and now with RG3 it seems there are folks that want to give all the credit to RG3 and none to Kyle.

And given the high level of production the offense has put out this year, the fact that some are still bitching about Kyle just rings of hater-ade to me. Give it up already. If we had a middle of the pack D we'd probably have 2-3 more wins. The offense clearly isn't our problem.

I think he is a great blocker, but that is ONE block you have to make everytime. That was a huge mistake, dont blow it off saying no one makes that, thats crap.

Arguably our best blocker not on the OL and not named Royster or Morgan

W...T...F? Paul is horrible. I watched the replay on NFL network last night and came away thinking Paul wouldn't see the field again this season outside special teams. Was actually going to start a thread on stuff that stood out from the replay, top of the list is how bad a blocker, receiver, route runner Paul is.

Hearing that he'll start is beyond me...guess I'll start a thread to see what folks think.

I wouldn't worry about what the depth chart says. What we saw in terms of playing time and the roles Paul and Paulsen played last Sunday is likely what we'll see going forward.

With Cooley back, I thing Niles Paul will be riding the bench on Offense now. They didn't do much with Cooley during the preseason because they wanted to look at Paul, but I think we have all seen enough of him. Let him play ST and that's it.
