Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Don't say good-bye to Moss just yet.
@JasonLaCanfora: Skins currently in discussions with representatives for Moss and Carriker trying to rework their deals to create cap space. |
Gdamnit I hate to see Moss go. Lame.
Maybe we'll re-sign to a more cap-friendly deal. He deserves that opportunity.
If the thought is that Moss will not get picked up do to his age if we release him then I suspect we can get him at any offer we want. Partially because I just read this in his wiki. On January 25, 2012, his $5.2 million home in Florida went into foreclosure. |

John Keim @john_keim
from His wrestling show partner RT @TheChuckCarroll @AdamCarriker94 has restructured his contract and will remain with #Redskins. |

The guys they cite are: Haynesworth, signed 2009 (4 years ago) D. Sanders, signed 2000 (13 years ago) B. Smith, signed 2000 (13 years ago) A. Archuleta, signed 2007 (6 years ago) J. Trotter, signed 2002 (11 years ago) J. George, signed 1999 (14 years ago) D. Stubblefield, signed 1999 (14 years ago) So, yeah. In the late 90's and early 00's we sucked. AND, in the last 10 years, we had two very bad signings. Since Cerrato has been gone, we have had solid success in the FA market. Last year's crop were significant contributor's to the team at relatively reasonable prices. Without going back, pretty sure the same could about MS's first crop of UFA's. Shanallen runs March very differently than Cerrato. |

As I understand it, of the RFA's only Banks was not resigned. Baker may still walk but I bet he stays. With Cofield, Nield and Baker, I am very comfortable with our NT position. and BTW - Thank God the Brandon Banks experiment is over. I wish him no ill will but, damn, am I glad he is gone. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
To be fair Joe, Archuleta was signed before the 2006 season. But that just illustrates your point even more, it was so long ago that it really shouldn't be factored into current history.

One cut saves two or three players. Like it.

Adam Carriker restructured his deal with the Skins, providing 2013 cap relief. Santana Moss now close to doing the same |
Carriker had a torn quad
Wow, I thought it was his ACL, remembering how he was holding his knee when he went down. Rotoworld confirmed what you said, I just remember being pissed more so that we lost Orakpo a few plays later, with a torn pec (I remember that one better). But back to AC, what a team guy. He knows he fits here, he knows we're a good team, he knows we just got a BS cap penalty and that since he didn't play last year its in the teams and his best interest to take less money this year and keep the last couple years of his deal the same. Great guy, glad he's back. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Still worried about Davis.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Knowing how the Redskins structured Carriker's deal in the first place, I'm 99% confident he took the shaft to stay in Washington. You see "mutual" options in baseball, but almost never in football. But in Carriker's contract, he had a buyback option for this season (the team of course has an option with every player every season because contracts are non-guaranteed).
In baseball, mutual options are almost ALWAYS contract-enders because one side or the other is going to feel undervalued every year. So someone is going to terminate the contract. Carriker was always unlikely to be back, so he probably had to accept a significant pay reduction with no guarantee of being a Redskin beyond 2013. I can't help but think he'll probably regret his decision to stay in a year. Then again, the FA market is going to be incredibly soft for Carriker types, so who knows? Santana Moss on the other hand has some leverage. He's got a date with free agency in a year, a large base salary, and a team that feels like it's losing something on the field by releasing him. The Redskins are going to have to make a couple concessions to keep him in the fold (i.e. guaranteed money, an extension of at least one season). Moss is in a good spot, he won't be getting the shaft. But I doubt he wants to hit free agency at 33. The market won't be kind. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
and now the little tweeters are saying that Moss is restructuring his deal as we speak

yessss... really hope they get this done with moss and he stays.. having rg3 thowing the ball moss has looked better than in previous years

Just saying, there was a reason I didn't entirely buy the playoff push at that point ;) By the time of RG3's injury, Paul was buried on the depth chart and Banks was a healthy inactive. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
So where are we getting the money to for all of these deal? No way a cut and two restructures are enough to make up the difference... Have to assume more is coming.
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Dan Graziano @espn_nfceast
RT @Rich_Campbell: DE Adam Carriker, via text, says his restructured deal lasts through 2015, just as his old one did. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Nothing but great news coming out, now if they could bring back my man Lorenzo, i would be thrilled. Kudos to our front office!!
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Any word on the our offensive MVP from 2011? Sav the Punter?
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Here's what I am seeing:
Offense coming back intact and set for another two years (Moss, Paulsen, Young, K-Lich). Still waiting on Davis, however, Defense still has huge holes in the backfield which have gotten bigger (he may have sucked, but Hall was still our starter and needs to be replaced). Meanwhile, those depth signings we can do something about are being addressed (Carriker) and retained (Fletcher). So far, so good. |

I have a feeling that they find a way to bring him back. I highly doubt he commands big dollars on the open market. His value is here. |

He's unlikely to come back, plus he wasn't ranked that well last year. He also has a leg injury he's recovering from too. Not good. B/R NFL 1,000 2013: Top 32 Punters | Bleacher Report |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
I'm glad to see us keeping our own guys, and glad they are working with the FO to make it happen. I know this means less activity in FA, but between the penalty, and just better depth drafting, I think our team comes out stronger overall from this year.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Did Hall get released Matty put up the link on the side and Granzio refrenced it in his blog but haven't seen it in my normal spots. Any official word?
Edit: nevermind i guess DeAngelo Hall is Redskins' first salary cap casualty - Washington Times |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
So the odd man out might be London or Zoe if Moss works a deal.
Related: Santana basically needs 64 catches to pass Gary Clark. Don't see it happening. EDIT: |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Mike Jones @MikeJonesWaPo
So, #Redskins have finalized the deal they had been working on with Tony Pashos, who was out of football last year. His agent announced it. |
With all of these players restructuring & signing new deals I think it says a lot about Hall & his release.
Pulling for Moss to get the deal done. |
With all of these players restructuring & signing new deals I think it says a lot about Hall & his release.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
pashos is a good flyer signing. I really want davis back though, or his TE equivalent.

I always hated him for that. Haven't heard that name in a long time, alright done venting. I hope we don't break the bank for any big signings. If we can get just 1 of the 3 positions signed , RT, S, CB, then we could have a more open draft to get best players avaialble while filling in the other 2 positions. Don't overpay though. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Well that really should end any hope of getting cap space back, time to put it behind (regardless of Allen's throwaway ending about getting some back).
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Per Shanny, D.Hall has been released.
