I'm not worried about a thing. I expect to see alot more of the second half type of play than the first this season. We had a couple of turnovers and things went south. But this team isn't made up of quitters. We came back from a big hole and almost won the damn thing. Robert and the rest of the team are only gonna get better. We get Keenan Robinson back next year and I think he's gonna be a hell of a player.
Once people are able to take a step back and think clearly about the game last night, I think they'll see that the 'skins aren't in such bad shape. RGIII came around in the second half, Morris won't be fumbling like he did last night, and the defense will continue to improve. I would much rather see this team have a bad season opener rather than to end the season on a bad note. And the Eagles are going to run out of gas. There is no way they run that offense for 16 full games. They couldn't even run it for longer than a half. |

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
I do agree that the EAGLES will not be able to run that offense all year.
They ended the game with 76 plays run, and we had 70. So it wasn't like they were running over 90 plays. I don't think they will ever be able to run 90 plays.. THe NFL is not college... You can't keep running fast plays like that for a whole game, and not expect to give the other team a chance to catch up. You have to run the clock, and what hurt Philly last night was they ran out of gas, and almost didn't cross the finish line.. If we could of at least put up another score or two in the first half.. I feel like we would of blown them out because their offense looked so worn down, and tired. I saw McCoy getting treatment for cramps, and he was puking. I saw Vick limping around and barely able to run out of the pocket. If they honestly believe they are going to be running 90 plays a game, then they will be out of players to play with by week 12. |

We have problems but it is just one game.
I like this kind of optimism. It's not Kool-Aid talk about having the best offense/team ever yada yada. But given a certain talent level, a team can pull together and do amazing things. It's debatable whether we have the talent. The offensive line is really questionable at this point. Monty got embarrassed early and often last night, as did the right side. And Moss is still our best WR, but that's not good enough so RG has to be able to find the hot hand each and every game, much like Drew Brees has perfected in NO. Some games it will be Garcon, but people need to learn he's never been a consistent producer and at this point there's really no reason to expect otherwise. And defensively we've got some talent issues at safety. But yeah, over the course of the season we could pull together and make a run. It's gotta start in Green Bay though. |

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
Oakland and Detroit are clearly not pushovers. We're better than both, but we're also a good deal better than Philadelphia, and well, that worked out wonderful.
If we can't get it together against Green Bay, it's hard for me to see a start better than 1-3. If we fix the main issues from last nights game, there is no reason we can't rip off three straight and look really good going into the bye. Thinking goes like this: if the Redskins can correct these issues on a short week, then it's okay to write Monday Night off as a poor effort, and move on from it. If the issues are compounded against a good team, then getting blown out at home by a bad team is a pretty good indicator that the team isn't good. |
Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
I think it all came down to penalties and not capitalizing when we needed to. Get a turn over here and there and don't come up with as many points as we should have.
RGIII COULD have been rusty, but hell if completing 30 passes for over 300 yards and 2 TD's is rusty we have a LOT to look forward to. |
Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
RG3's overall performance, I thought, was fine. He wasn't used in a way where he had a lot of opportunities to light up the scoreboard, and on the third and longs that he was in a lot he was inaccurate throughout the first half, but that's not markedly different from last season.
There were two or three easy throws that he missed that you expect a pro QB to convert, and two or three balls that he forced into tight coverage instead of coming off his first read. That's about 12% of his day he'd like to have back, which is not insignificant. But I also feel that if the Redskins had come out more determined to light up the scoreboard than they were, Griffin's inaccuracies would have been a minor footnote and not the main story. The other 40 plays he looked like Robert Griffin. I don't want to diminish how much him being off affects this team, because its clearly a lot. But Vick was off too last night and the Eagles came out attacking in a way that made that not matter. |
Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
We were philly's guinea pig last night and they worked us, we will see them again and play much better on both sides along with beating ourselves with turnovers and penalties.
i came to a conclusion. last few games of last year griffin was 100% there mentally but not physically with his knee and now it is just the opposite. he's healthy just gotta trust his knee and back in his groove throwing. I say/hope in a few games he's back in form never know though but that's my take. |

Vick's thoughts:
"I've never been a part of anything like this," Michael Vick said, via TheMMQB.com. "When the first quarter was over, I thought we were about to go into halftime. Unreal. The only thing I could tell myself was, 'It's going to be a long season.'" I just don't see that as the way you want your qb thinking after the first quarter of the season. Maybe Kelly learns, and that will be to his credit, but right now, I don't see it becoming a new way. |

He played a pretty good game if you ask me. He still has the arm, the quick release, and he can still run the ball. He was exhausted by halftime. |

I'm in San Diego, so I got to stay up to watch the Chargers lose a game that was even worse than the Skins. It was not a great day of football. RGIII doesn't want the read option offense. He wants a conventional offense more like we saw last night. That was one of his grips with Shanahan last season. |

Seriously? He beasted last season. Why would you want to change something that works? That's taking a hatchet to where you need a screwdriver. Is it for safety purposes or does he want to be more of a pocket passer, only run when necessary type? |

That's what I took away from it. He's tentative as hell, and so is the rest of the organization. |

I mean, why would a competitor like him gimp himself? It doesn't ration out with what he know of him and his drive thus far. I can understand him refusing the designed runs, of which there were very few towards then end of last season, but not the read option. I think he's still tentative (and why shouldn't he be?) and that is why there was no read option used last night. He has to trust himself for them to use it. I got the sense (and going strictly off my eye test here, because I can recall nothing that I've read, seen or heard that he "doesn't want the read option") that he didn't start to trust himself physically until towards the end of the game and after he had taken some hits and shook them off ... and I think it's going to take him some time before he has that confidence in his athleticism again. I find all of it understandable. |

This is the sense I got from him last night while watching the game. He is there physically but the mental rehab is going to take some more time. I think the fact that he took some pretty hard shots, protected himself and got back up went a ways towards that mental healing. I sensed a lot more confidence there towards the last ten minutes than he had all game long.

So he'd rather be blindsided in the pocket vs. seeing everything clearly in front of him while running the ball? Personally, I thought he looked safest last season when he was running out in open space. All he had to do was use the rules to his advantage and get down or run out of bounds. Pretty simple. If he gets hurt this year, it's going to happen on a bad hit in the pocket. This notion that the pocket's safer is BS. Look how the Eagles blitzed with no threat of the read option. The Skins hardly got blitzed at all last year. |

Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
24 hours after the game, My thoughts after the pain has passed:
RG3 looked like crap...yes he got better during the 2nd half, but it was against a team with a massive lead. I don't recall a moment the entire last year he looked so bad as a rookie. He obviously is uncomfortable...he wasn't stepping into his passes either, indicating a lack of confidence in his knee or his offensive line. The Skins' offensive line is bad in traditional blocking, either run or pass. This is a light zone blocking scheme line. Only 1 lineman would be wanted on most teams...as you recall...almost everyone said how crappy our Oline was for years before RG3 was drafted, now all of a sudden, only Polumbus is a problem....well...an incredibly gifted running QB makes a weak oline into a strength....and last night we all saw what RG3 without his running skills does to the team. It is a Major impact. Developing RG3 into a pocket passer may not really be possible until we upgrade our line. The team as a whole was not prepared for the game..that is on Shanny. The Skins must have believed they could just "play" and win. Critical penalties, fumbles, interceptions, safeties...all just in the first quarter. Then there were bad passes, dropped passes, no pass rush, horrible safety play. Based on all these "facts"...the Skins should have lost 45-7...but they didn't...Somehow they kept it respectable...so that is a positive. I personally don't believe RG3 is going to instantly be in probowl form in 6 days. It may be a while...we just need to protect him. We need to get really good at running screens and shotgun draws or something, or bring back Mike Sellers to crush someone..or maybe run some reverses to get over-aggressive defenses to back off. Until RG3 can burn someone deep or get his hurdling mojo back, they will load the box..wouldn't you? Disappointed..I just don't see the Skins as a playoff caliber team based on their schedule and competition. I'd rank them around 15 right now. They barely made it last year, and that is because they dominated the division. Losing to Philly makes that a real problem. It will be far easier to win the East than to get a wildcard between Seattle, Saints, Minnesota, Chicago, Dallas or Giants (perhaps philly). Now we have to sweep at least Dallas or the Gmen to realistically win the east...that is very hard in year 2 of a new scheme with a slower QB. Bottom line, it was one game...but it was a very bad game. Good thing there are 16 of them...I just want to get to the bye at 2-2 and get our guys back + Merriweather and dare I say it?...Tanard Jackson...damn, I would consider starting Reed at SS moving forward...Rambo is going to get torched by GB. |
Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
While I'm at it...and I know it is one game but....Orakpo is still underperforming. Kerrigan is far better in my mind. Maybe he too was tenative with his injury issue...but Cofield at a non impact position had more impact with a BROKEN HAND than Orakpo did. If he doesn't start getting to the passer, he is going to end up on another team....Heck...lets get that rookie guy in there occasionally if he can't do it. At least Rak can draw a holding penalty, but the result is a torn pec for every 10 of those.

If RG3 can run a conventional offense, he will have a long career. If not, we will have a very short term window for a Super Bowl run Ironically, this injury could be the best thing that ever happened to him, IF it forces him to go through his progressions and deliver accurate passes from the pocket....we shall see what the long term future of the Skins will be in yr 2 of RG3. I think the guy is really good..but we haven't seen RG3 without his speed win games yet. |

Who cares if players were out drinking the night before a 7PM game?! Of they got home at 2am, they could get 10 hours of sleep and be feeling great by noon - 7 hours before kickoff.
