Yea him and Kerrigan I feel do the same move and it makes it look they are being held from a distance. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Orakpo and Kerrigan show up more or less every week. They're the two best players on the defense. The inconsistent pass rush is frustrating, but all I can say is be careful what you wish for...you just might get it.

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
So your fix is to do what exactly? Burn through the entire defense, change the whole coaching staff, and do all this without a number one draft pick this offseason? Wow, sounds like a plan to me!
Not having a number 1 draft pick is certainly an issue, as is treating the Ferrari (i.e. RG3) like a demolition derby car, in particular after giving up all of the picks to obtain RG3's draft rights. So who's responsibility is it to be a good steward of the team, who is supposed to be the adult in the room? Why that would be Mike Shanahan, so yes after four years and a .420ish win percentage it is time to make change. The team needs a culture change, who, or how that is going to be made I don't know, if I knew, I'd probably be a head coach. We have seen basically the same product for almost two decades now. Undisciplined play as evidenced by penchant for 15yd unsportsmanlike or unnecessary roughness penalties, costly gaffes, losing to 'inferior teams' and so forth. Not to mention the perennial issue of not having a pass rush. So yeah, count me in on the blow up the coaching staff and start over bandwagon. |
Where are you getting your depth charts? I was on ESPN earlier and it looked different than this. Not saying you are wrong just curious. Also I am talking about 1st string players not who they have to start due to injury. I said earlier you use free agents to fill holes. The Pats situation right now with all their injuries is a perfect example of that.
doesn't it depend on a team's stage of development? for example we brought in several FA CB's because we were drafting youth on offensive skill players, and defensive front 7. So now we have CB/S youth backing up CB/S FA's and I would say when the youth is learning we could have easily gone out and gotten a better 2nd CB given the market, and we would have lost Hall if he didn't find the market so soft, if the penalty was not in place. Also probably could have gotten a Safety other than concussion producing Merriweather, but don't remember what the FA safety market looked like. Same can be said for our OL talent such as it is. We drafted some OL, but got FA's in order to have a line that could perform "adequately", and we spent one high draft pick on the most important OL position. Now we try to draft the youth that can learn from the FA's and one day replace them. New England on the other hand is an established team and they are in a different part of the cycle. |

Team sites. I know the depth charts aren't 100% accurate and of course injuries play in, but I don't think it's accurate to say the Skins starters are mostly free agents. |

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
We have blown 3 double digit leads in the second half this season. Defense really needs some help this offseason. Middle Linebacker preferably.
Also, finding a punter who can accomplish kickoffs would be great. Fletcher had 2 tackles no assists yesterday. |

I dont know, maybe he has,I cant remember all his td catches.I do know I will never like that call,I dont like the fade to begin with, and I cant stand it even more on 4th down to the shortest guy on the field. The fade is probably the hardest throw to make,as summo said its got to be perfect, and its got to be one of the harder passes to catch also, its always over the shoulder with a defender in your face and trying to keep your feet in bounds. Why call a play that is probably the hardest play in football to execute? |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
During the game I was positive Morgan was hit early on the punt he fumbled,I've blown it up and slowed it down and its too close to call,I still cant believe a flag wasnt thrown, you know damn well if it was the other way around we would have been flagged.
It looks to me like Morgan for sure would have been hit on his right leg before the ball gets there but he starts moving it out of the way as the guy goes to tackle him,and I think he might have been hit on that leg early anyway [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntfm_DOvQVA&feature=c4-overview&list=UUmedPptiZTBeSLScaVdkdHQ]My Edited Video - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogaxlYpqm40&list=UUmedPptiZTBeSLScaVdkdHQ]Josh Morgan - YouTube[/ame] |

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
Some positive news, after 9 games Alfred Morris leads the NFL in rushing with 825 yards.
|
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
This team was a mirage coming into the season. Even when RG3 plays at the top if his game as he did in the first half, they still find a way to lose. I can't think of a single game this year where they won the Special Teams battle, and 4th quarter ST gaffes swung the momentum for good.

Won the ST battle?! The Skins have been beaten so badly on ST's that the unit should be nicknamed "The French Army". |

Actually Chico coined them "turdble". In all fairness though the first three quarters we did keep the ball away from them on returns with the short kicks and Paul got us decent field position. |

Turdble? I missed that. Sounds appropriate, though. I can go with it. "Time to kick; we're in deep Turdble now!" |

This loss is really bothering me guys. What a different attitude I would have rite now.
Still say that this is the worst loss I have ever had to deal with - all things considered. The opponent, the way the first half went, the importance of the game, the state of our division where it is just up for grabs. |

Try reading my comment first. I said that I CAN'T think of a single game this year where they (Redskins) won the special teams battle. ST has been a HUGE liability all year. They looked like the Keystone Cops on the fake punt, were saved by their own ineptitude (illegal procedure), yet given a second chance, gave up a 20 yard return with a 15 yard personal foul tacked on. Minnesota only had to drive 41 yards for the go ahead score from there. Keith Burns cannot be brought back next year. |

That is all that needs to be said here. We need a new coaching staff, from the top down. Kyle is horrible, Mike is in la la land with RG3 and clock management, ST coach is.........I dont think there is an adjective suitable for how bad we are, Secondary coach is blah.....................We need new coaches. Even with RG3 Alfmo and Garcon, we can't make this work with these coaches. |

The opponent, the way the first half went, the importance of the game, the state of our division where it is just up for grabs.
The two stupidest losses I've witnessed as a fan were both season openers: 06 vs Minnesota, and 13 vs Philadelphia. Both games were the first game of seasons where the Redskins entered with very legitimate playoff aspirations, and signaled doom for the rest of the season with home losses to bad teams. (Honorable mention: 08 vs St. Louis and 09 vs Detroit) This loss wasn't on the same level as those I don't think, because we had the prior seven games to prepare us (and specifically blown leads in the prior three games). If you weren't at least a little worried that the Redskins would pull out defeat from the jaws of victory, it may have been because we were all making excuses for their performance in recent weeks. That they continued the trend against the Vikings is disappointing. It is. But it's not the worst loss of the season, much less multiple seasons. |

Re: Skins Viks Postgame
The good news is that if we can get some competent leadership in the building under Bruce Allen, this team could turn around very, very quickly. By 2014.
The problem of course is that this is almost exactly the same situation as 2006 (turned around immediately), and 2009 (not so much), so there are no guarantees. Joe Gibbs/Al Saunders/Gregg Williams got the Redskins on track and didn't waste any time. Mike Shanhan/Kyle Shanahan/Jim Haslett spend all the time, didn't really change the situation any. |

You talked about messaging somewhere here, and it's a good description of another thing really lacking from current leadership. I actually think the cap penalty is a good example, or the reaction more precisely. I think the right message has the whole roster fired up over the penalty, an us vs the league dynamic, and if nothing else you get intensity, motivation and comeraderie from it. Think band of brothers type thing. I still would be willing to give Shanahan another year in theory, but we should all know there's no realistic way to make this a good ending for him. Sure the play-calling on offense improved the last couple weeks but it's far from excellent and any HC content with the big picture over the last four seasons doesn't deserve another chance. By my count we should have scored a minimum of 42 points on Thursday. Piss poor playcalling/execcution in the redzone and the mid field play where RG missed Moss wide open for a touchdown, those things keep happening over and over and over. Same with the defense. Mike might fire Haslett and Burns, but that shouldn't be enough to keep his job. And he's not going to send his kiddo packing with nowhere to go. So yeah, it's reality day for the whole coaching staff with Morris being a possible exception. |
Re: Skins Viks Postgame
I don't think a lame duck Shanahan year would be the worst thing (it may be the worst thing for RG3, however), but once you strip him of all his power and bring in a personnel guy over his head...what exactly is the point of keeping him? Save some money, I guess?
The cool thing about owning an NFL team is that Dan Snyder gets an infinite amount of chances to try again and get it right. Time to try again. Third time is the charm...but what about the third-third time? |

There's going to be some deadcap on the books next year because of the 2012 FA signings that didn't work (Morgan, Meriweather), but outside of Garcon, Cofield, and Bowen, we're not dealing with any out of whack contacts.
Upgrading the talent level of this roster should be fairly straightforward. |
