That seems a bit harsh |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
I voted yes but simply because he's playing so poorly. Cooley's breakdown pretty much confirms what the Shanahan's are looking at on film.
For the first time in my life, I am rooting against the Redskins.
Why? The best thing we could have is for KC to come out and play well so he has some trade value. Teams seem to only need a small window of playing time to over pay for a QB. |
I dont think anybody is saying Griff is having a great year. I think what most people are questioning is the timing by Shanahan. This is being turned into a Cousins vs Griff thing. Imo it is Shanny trying to win and save his job (playing Griff vs Seattle, playing Griff in week one, playing Griff through his season of struggles), vs Shanny saying FU to Snyder and Griff on his way out. There is just no way that Shanny is trying to protect Griffs future. No way. If that was the case you dont start him in week one. You dont leave him in a game with one leg.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
Shananigans is banking on Cousins playing well against the two worst defensive teams in football.
If KC plays well, He can skip town with the fan and media focus on the QB controversy and not his failed tenure in DC. This is not about RG3, KC or the Redskins organization. Mike is trying to manipulate his way out of a bad situation. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
I voted not sure on the poll. I understand both sides of the argument. I don't disagree with pulling him (I do however, disagree with the motives behind it) but I can completely understand and support the idea of him finishing the season.
At this point I think I'm just apathetic and I'm like... Meh. |

Cooley's breakdown pretty much confirms what the Shanahan's are looking at on film.
What I'll say about the film is this: early in the year, it was very easy to tell what Griffin is struggling with and what he was doing well. As the season has gone on, it's gotten far more ambiguous. Some of the struggles in recent weeks is the result of some horrific offensive design. Others is because of declining mechanics. And some weeks, Griffin looks fine and developed and healthy and nothing makes any sense.
There's an element of Griffin needs to play better -- but its gotten buried in a sea of sh-t as the season has gone on. The Redskins offense has done a reverse Tampa Bay this year. |

I voted not sure.
With a normal coach I think RG should be starting, he needs all the reps he can get. But with these scumbags I'm glad he's sitting. Don't need him out there getting killed with sh*tty play calls and our non-existent pass protection. As long as the Shannys are in town, I'm very happy with RG sitting. |

That's just a cover dude. He's wooing Lovie to come in as HC and pick any DC he wants. We'll have a top ten defense next year. The offense will fly with a new OC and a few additions. |
Problems all over and all this drama is the cherry on top. We'll be lucky to win 1 of these last 3.
I hope that is against Dallas |

I've got a $100 riding on the Dallas game so I'd be happy with that. Just to make things clear its an old running bet from yr to yr. |

I'm not fan of the media but this really is a big deal. It's unprecedented for a team to deactivate a starting player, no less their franchise QB, for the sake of 'protecting him'. It's nothing less than a spectacle. This season can't end soon enough. This may be the first Redskin game since the Pettibon year that I may voluntarily miss a game. Truth be told I was planning to go to Atlanta for the game but now I am SO glad I didn't go. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
we are torn!
i just voted: 11 yes 11 no 5 idk |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
After listening to the presser today, I'm okay with shutting him down. We're not playing for anything right now (Pride left 3 weeks ago...). An injury to RGIII would be exponentially worse than missing game time reps in these last 3 weeks. I think if Shanny were doing a "F*ck you!" to the Redskins (Snyder) then I think he would actually leave RGIII out there and not give a crap if he got hurt. If the organization truly believes that RGIII is the future then why chance it all on three meaningless games? This season is totally gone for RGIII. I kind of wonder though why not sit him against the Chiefs, but whatever. I highly doubt this "benching" is going to have any long term psychological consequences for him.

We are a laughing stock right now. Embarrassing especially for a once great organization.

Sadly I was talking to a friend earlier today and he thinks that this doesn't even crack the top 5 controversies of the Snyder era. |

Agreed. I mean he's still playing behind the same bad offensive line, and we still have the same defense and special teams... Probably 0-3, but they may squeak out a win against Dallas since their D is just as bad...or worse. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
We may be the only franchise doomed to an eternity of qb controversy. I'll never understand it.
I'm not saying others haven't had their share, but even in Doug Williams SB year we had to overcome it. Sonny and Billy, Heath and Gus. It's just crazy enough to make me crazy! |

Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
That's fine if he wants to sell this as 100% about keeping RGIII healthy, but I better not see one triple option, or old school Nebraska style college option next year. Not one play.
The read option out of the pistol where he is moving more vertically and can get down faster should still be limited to less than 5 times a game in short yardage situations. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
Finally Goat, some people are warming up to the fact that SHANAHAN FUCKING SUCKS. Even without this situation, one playoff win in 14 years, and a horrid win %age his past 8 seasons, it really makes this inevitable firing (for junior as well) the best thing that could have happened to us. I think if we lay a complete stinker this week, he will be gone on Monday. If there is a little bit of effort, he might close out the season.
GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE, SHANAFAIL. |
Look, I want the best product on the field. If it's Cousins then guess what... I want Cousins starting. If its RG3 then I want RG3 starting. I'll admit RG3 has the best "POTENTIAL" but if he's not living up to that potential then I'll take Cousins.
I could care less about all the picks given up for any QB or the amount of money being tossed to either.
Ditto. Let's see what we really have in Cousins these last 3 games. If he can't torch these shitty Defenses, then we're really screwed;) |

That's the problem though. If he DOES do well, then that opens up a whole new can of worms. But what does it really show though? Playing teams with lousy to awful defenses, when you're 3-10 and there's absolutely no pressure, is it really a good indicator of how good he is? This organization is royally messed up no matter what happens. The embarassing thing is they've become a national punch line now. So much for the circus being in Tampa Bay or Miami, etc. |

Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
I'm not worried about KC playing well, its the other 52. This team has quit, Josh Morgan literally walked an out route Sunday, the quitters may hamper Our American Cousin from prospering. Plus when we're down by 30+ at halftime the D will be licking chops.

If Cousins comes out and moves the ball well and wins then the team will have a can of worms. Personally I think people put too much into one player. There have been many of QB's that have been picked that have turned out to be busts and the Redskins have seen their fair share. If nothing else everyone should be cautious in regards to a QB that had one good year (with a converted offense to enhance RG3's abilities) and one bad year (due to injury). Any other position and we fans would be calling RG3 50/50 and saying we have to wait until yr 3 to decide what we got in him. But for what ever reason everyone is 110% in on RG3, even after hearing what Cooley had to say about RG3's deficiencies. "IF" Cooley is correct... MS or whoever is the next HC has a ton of work with RG3 in the off season, and it usually starts with footwork and back peddling, trying to get him comfortable in a pocket, getting rid of the happy feet, building a mental clock. We fans want a Payton Manning, someone who will manage the game, someone who will look solid going through his progressions and delivering the ball, someone who reads the defenses well and readjusts his protection or changes to a better play. In reality Cousins is light years ahead of RG3 if he has half of these down. I heard on the radio yesterday an ex player say that in last weeks game RG3 ran on play 2 or 3 times and each time he got sacked, one from the RT the other from up the center. Cousins came in and used the same play and for the first time a QB was able to get to the 3rd option and deliver a strike. Not to mention Cousins rotated his protection to the correct side and it picked up the rusher. The speaker said he has not seen RG3 get past the 1st read. If the first read is not available he takes off running. (my opinion>) Now that might be out of habit, meaning if all RG3 was asked to do in college was take the snap and throw to his first option or run then thats all he's going to know how to do. Maybe thats why Briles offense is supposedly so fast, line up, take the snap, look at the first option, or run. Line up do it again. IDK. |

I agree with you. Sometimes it just takes one person. Maybe this offense rallies around Cousins for 3 games and plays well. Well, maybe not the OL, but the rest. lol. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
I think there are two groups of people in favor of this when it all comes down to it.
A) Fans that want to baby Robert and treat him as if he's some porcelain vase. B) Fans that wanted RGIII benched due to this play and wanted to see Kirk in. |
Re: Kirk Cousins Expected To Start Sunday
I think the media blowing a lot of this stuff waaaaaay out of proportion. and what if DS and Allen had the meeting after last weeks game and both came to the conclusion that their only option is either keep MS for his final year or fire him and pay him 7 mill to sit or coach elsewhere AND pay some new coach 7 mill to coach this team?
I'll hedge my bet and say DS picked keeping MS. So if you are stuck with each other and what your doing is not working then changes have to be made. So they meet with MS and tell him he has this last year to fix this mess and what does he think it will take to get it done? If I was MS I'd play Cousins just to see if he could do better in the last meaningless games, only so I'd have film and proof if he does well to take to DS and Allen to say..."we need to start Cousins next year because he's light years ahead of RG3, BUT we will keep developing RG3 because he has more potential down the road. If Cousins does not look better from a coaches stand point in what they look at then no harm no foul, just play RG3 next year and hope for the best. Where I think everyone is missing the point is, I think the coaches adjusted their offensive scheme majorly to help out RG3 with what he already knew how to do. I think this year they tried to get more away from the "Read Option" not because RG3 was hurt but because thats not their scheme. I'm betting Cousins will work better in "their" scheme. Which is why MS has changed his mind on starting Cousins to show case to DS and Allen that he was right in drafting Cousins. |

Anyone who says RG3 is 100% is a fool, cause if he is tell him to take the brace off it's slowing him down. I also think that if your looking at your sports car in the driveway and your pick up truck and your trying to decide which to drive and you now your route will have you driving on a dirt road with ruts in it and pot holes most of us would probably take the truck just so we wouldn't damage the suspension of the sports car. Prior to last weeks game just about everyone was saying bench RG3 and let him stay healthy and not get hurt especially since the OL sucks so bad. MS said "no RG3 needs all the reps he can get." Which is true, but something changed his mind...maybe DS said bench him so he's healthy next year, maybe it was MS with facing losing his job said let me play Cousins these last 3 games to show you its RG3 and he's not making good decisions. If MS can prove that then maybe DS keeps MS the final year and lets the coaching staff work all off season with RG3 to develop him and if he still isn't getting it they can start Cousins next year. Worst case scenario Cousins bombs also and MS is fired. |

Several others who break down film for a living have pointed out the same deficiencies. You don't see much pre-snap barking and pointing from Griffin either and maybe that is telling. Sonny Jergenson said everything happens pre-snap. He said QBs need to look at Defenders feet and eyes, so they know where to go with the ball BEFORE it's snapped. Waiting until after the ball is snapped is way too late. I hope Cousins plays his ass off. We can deal with the worms later;) |
