Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Ok we have a full fledge qb controversy when rg returns. Full fledge pressure on whoever starts. Strange days for skins fans right now, strangeee days.
Meanwhile you try to put the dreaded "game manager" label on him based on absolutely nothing.
No I didn't. Not even close to what I said. What I said was...
Yeah, it depends. If he's a game managing QB then I'll still be curious what the team looks like with Griffin. I won't want to settle for a game manager that lets the rest of the team win he game. If he looks good... if he looks like a comfortable qb that can make big plays and more importantly make smart plays on a regular basis... Well. Then Griffin is relegated to backup duty :)
\ As a response to the idea that if Cousins leads the team to the playoffs he'll get the starting job over Griffin. Which is true. There's 11 guys on the field at a time, with 3 different units playing at different times. In general, the total quality of the team is rarely tied exclusively to one player. It's completely possible the redskins win 10, 11, 12 games this year with Cousins being a game manager and the rest of the team playing really well. In my opinion that wouldn't mean he deserves to start over Griffin. He goes out there and leads the team, plays really well, makes big and smart plays, then yeah... He'll earn the job in my opinion. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Kirk Cousins is a young QB with even less NFL experience than RGIII. We are definitely going to see good and bad from him, even in the same game. That is to be expected.
Winning is winning. I'm not one to favor making any changes when the team is winning. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
What if we win the next few games or go 4-1 with kirk or a simikar record... rg3 will miss 6 games at the very least... is this kirks team now?

i dont think we know the ligament damage yet. Im thinking he'd done at least til December. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Kirk is such an Andy Dalton esque qb. Grudens gonna like working with Kirk as his starter. I could be wrong. I like everything about Kirk beside his deep ball.
|
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
One thing I think is a positive if we are in the situation of KC playing well enough to generate a real "QB Question," both RG3 and KC have the personalities that will minimize the divisiveness for the team.
I firmly believe each is extremely competitive, wants to start, and believes they should start. At the same time, neither is the type of guy to try and undermine the other in the locker room. In fact, regardless of whoever wins such a competition, I fully expect the loser to be supportive of and helpful to the winner. Also, in such a situation, I can see a trade working out for the loser that ultimately benefits the Skins. I am hopeful KC shines in these next outings because I believe the end result is good for the team regardless of who our starter is next year. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
You guys are getting waaaaay ahead of yourselves. lol. Let's just try and beat the Eagles first.

I think it depends entirely on how Kirk plays. I'm in favor of not fixing something that's not broken, so if Kirk appears to be an essential cog in winning those games (and not losing the others) then I feel like the wise decision is to let Griffin heal up and not force an early return and see where Kirk takes the team. I'd like to believe this organization is more interested in winning games and building the team to be the best it can be, not nursing the feelings of a QB they traded a lot for. Of course, I am still high on Griffin and think he can be an elite quarterback. Hard to tell what Gruden et al think. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Rg was an exciting player he was versatile, shifty, hes special as far as how dynamic he is. Id take a guy who can win and do that over your traditional pocket passer. but we cant have someone whos gonna get hurt again. We should keep both. I want both. DAMMIT!

Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
re: Mike Wises article...
Kevin Sheehan on ESPN 980 has commented multiple times today (Monday Morning Quarterback Show and the Sports Fix) that he had been hearing the same thing for weeks... So while I believe Mike Wise is a piece of garbage that makes things up, I also believe Kevin Sheehan to be the smartest football guy in the Media (Unless you consider Jurgensen to be 'in the media') and I can't ever think of a time where he was just drumming up controversy, it's not really his thing, so... Interesting, I suppose... |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Chris Russel, among others, reporting Griffin has no fracture, does not need surgery.

I wanna see the guy recover but it just makes the question bigger that we know he will in fact return midseason. If kirk beats Seattle i know who my guy is Without a shadow of a doubt. But like he said lets get past Philly first. |

Yeah, we got philly on the road and giants at home first. One game at a time. I don't care who they put back there, I just want it to be the best person to help win the game. I don't care who's feelings/ego it hurts. |

Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Keim reporting No fracture in the ankle for RG3. Thats a positive
Any word if the MRI showed torn major ligaments? That is much worse than fracture. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Im much more concerned at the present moment with DJax and the others that were injured. Should have Reed back soon rite? Also BM coming back. Without getting into Griff vs Kirk - I will just say that rite now I am comfortable with Kirk being our QB. Very comfortable.

That is much worse than fracture.
yeah, thats the first hurddle. MRI is next on the ligaments. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Wouldn't they do x-rays at the stadium? Don't need an MRI to tell you if there are fractures. The MRI is to look at the soft tissue.

Meriweather back should really help. Rambo's had a big hand in both of the TD's the defense has allowed. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
I believe swelling immediately following injury makes in-stadium XRay and other tests not really useful.
But this is far from something I'm knowledgeable about. :) |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives

If an MRI has not been done yet, then I wonder why "Chris Russel, among others, reporting Griffin has no fracture, does not need surgery." If the major ligament in the ankle is torn and he expects to play football again he needs surgery. Otherwise his ankle will be so weak he will be twisting his ankle all the time and he risks more severe injury. |

Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
1 game at a time, lets see who is healthy for Philly, lot of other injuries besides RG3.

No surgery needed for a fracture, but that's only half the story. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
One thing I noticed was that 2 or 3 times, Roberts fielded a punt with a defender a bit too close. It never cost him a turnover, this time. I like playmakers, but when got a lead you got to play smart and not take dumb risks. Sometimes it is okay just to take the fair catch.
And all 10 points the defense allowed was because of two plays where the safeties blew the coverage. I don't know if they were going for the INT or what, but when you got a lead and you are the last line of defense you just can't be in front of the receiver. |

Either that or RG3 is the source, he must know by now what the diagnosis is. |
