All I'm trying to say is lets give KC a chance. He is good, and he can only get better.
Watch me get my Dwight Schrute on... False. There is no evidence qb's can only get better after 5 starts in the NFL. Just for shits and giggles, anyone remember Billy Volek? If memory serves, he had back to back 400 yard games for the Titans, and then went on to be a journeyman backup. Anyways, my only point is there is no reason to believe Cousins can only get better from here.
But everyone is all about RG3 and they want to do is talk about when RG3 will be back and ready to play. My thoughts and I believe, it really doesnt matter what KC does or how he plays, when RG3 gets back and feeling good, he will be back in and KC will be warming the bench.
Also, if I may, why do you think Cousins can only get better from here? Do you not feel the same way about RG3? Say what you want about his injuries but there's no way he calls it a career or decides to accept anything less than a starting job when he gets fully healthy. Honestly I have no idea what road we're going to go down when both RG3 and Cousins are healthy. Anything is possible, especially in the winning-centric NFL. But I think the odds are just as good that we might've seen Cousins' career highlight game last week as they are that he will win a starting job somewhere once this "tryout" is over. |

Well that's silly, certainly I cannot prove a statement that is not based in facts wrong or right. If you are saying it is a fact that athlete's can't be smart I'm sure there are plenty of examples to the contrary. If you are saying prove RG3 is intelligent, well that's a bit subjective isn't it? What proof do you have that I can try to respond to? Now, I don't know that RG3 can learn to change his style of play, but I don't think that has anything to do with his intelligence. In any field I'm sure their are people that are excellent at one thing, but can never learn other aspects of the job, or different approaches. People get used to what works for them, and sometimes it's really hard to break those tendencies. In RG3's case, it's hard to adjust your game when you can't stay healthy enough to even be on the field, and personally i think that is more to the crux of this matter. |
Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
Has RG3 really done anything for this team? Dont get me wrong, I like the guy. But he has pretty much been on the side line for most of all the seasons he has played in the NFL.
Everyone already pointed out the issues with the first statement, so I'll address the bolded part. Griffin has started 30 of 35 games since joining the team in 2012. That's 85.7%. And three of the games he missed were due to being benched. So he's been on the sideline for roughly 15% of the games. In what world does 15% = 'most'? |

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
The W/L record for the QB is the most ridiculous stat in football. Does the special teams have a W/L record too? Cause they're a big reason why we've lost two games. What about the defense? Do they get a W/L for last year cause they sucked?
RG3 is 3-11 in his last 14 starts. However, does he get a win cause he started the Jacksonville game? Or does KC get credit for that since he played most of the game. lol It's the ultimate team game people. KC has played well enough in all of his starts except 1 to have won the game. The QB to a point is only as good as the team around him. The game last week was lost on teams, 10 point swing there and that's the game. I remember last years game against Kansas City. Rg3 was awful that day but it wouldn't of mattered if Montana was playing QB. Kansas City was returning kick/ punts for TD's when they got off the bus. lol. That L should go to the special teams, not RG3. |

Blah blah blah. A true fan has no need of In 2012 Robert electrified the fanbase and it was a sweet ride! I for one won't take it lightly if he is unable to return to his original form. It cannot be denied that KC has shown some real talent on the field. My hope is we have our own version of Rivers/Bree's conundrum. Let it plAy out and he truth will be revealed brother HTTR
The Rivers/Bree's conundrum is by far the best we can hope for. I remember Gus vs. Heath. When you add the letting go of Trent Green, and running Brad Johnson out of town, the franchise has a really poor record with QB's over the past twenty years. To be in the situation you describe would be the best possible outcome, imaginable. |
Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
To add to my earlier post, just don't feel confident that this franchise will make the right choice in terms of picking the best QB. Hopefully, someone, either Griffin or Cousins steps up in such a big way that it is self evident who the franchise QB is.

There is still time and a contract option to pick up before a decision has to be made. First year in a new offense is a big deal when split second pre and post snap decisions and reads have to be made. I'm comfortable keeping both qb's until one creates some separation. |

Obviously RG3 is a very smart guy. It's more instincts IMO. What came natural for Griffin is what we ran in 2012. I don't think I've seen Griffin get under center and take a 5-7 step drop (w/out any play action) since he's been here. |

Kirk may have peaked, but odds are he hasn't. Your examples are more the exception than the rule. |

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
Dear Coach Gruden:
I've been reading this thread on The Warpath and I regret to inform you that I learned there is absolutely nothing you can do to improve the quarterbacks on your team. I was told by some guy from Wenatchee Falls that RGIII can never again be healthy nor can he ever learn to play QB at the pro level. Also, this kid from Kalamazoo informed me that Kirk Cousins has peaked as a QB and he can never get any better than he is right now. Based on these observations from actual football fans, I recommend that you give up on both Griffin and Cousins. You can, at least, save some money by eliminating all of your medical, rehabilitation, training, and coaching staffs. All of these support people are useless to you now that the fates of these young QB's have been determined by a couple of guys who post on a message board. I'm sorry I had to deliver this bad news but I thought you needed to know that your QB situation is hopeless before you invest any more time, effort, and money on these losers. Your friend, KI |

You just know we are going to limp along with 2 crap QBs for at least another season, then the FO will pick up RG3 5th year. They are never going to admit they bought a pig in a poke in Griffin and they got fleeced by the Rams. Just goes to show you that you can't fall in love with measurables, like 40 yard time.

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
It was one atrocious game by Cousins - but like others have said the real problem is a defense that gives up 45 points. I agree - how does Haslett keep his job. He has only had a top 10 defense like 2 or 3 times out of his entire NFL Career - most of the time his defenses are near the bottom. What is the skins' infatuation with the guy? He sucks as a coach.
They need to let Cousins play out the remainder of the year to see what you truly have in him. RG3 has had lots of miserable, pitiful games. I say let Cousins finish the year and then have them both battle for the job next year if RG3 is still here... |

Kirk needs to man up and stop throwing picks and realize sometimes you have to take a sack. I know it hurts. Oh yeah he fumbled twice. Sometimes Cousins had time to throw. |

I think the thread name needs to change to:
Griffin Out for Undetermined Time, Cousins by self is Undermined, time for Colt McCoy to shine. |

OK, Im off my KC soapbox! And just about the rest of the team!

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
I'm not going to hijack this thread with a topic change, but until the Redskins secondary can stop a WR/TE, it really won't matter who plays at QB. Even before Cousins started "pressing", the Redskins defense could not get off the field on 3rd down. No matter whom they put out there at QB, unless that guy can lead every drive to a TD, this team can't keep up, with its leaky Defense.
|

We are a run first offense. In order for that to work the defense has to be solid game in game out. Look at other run first teams and see how they are built compared to pass first teams. |
Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
Both sides have to play well... Cousins sucked the secondary sucks.

Oh yeah he fumbled twice. Sometimes Cousins had time to throw.
Cousin's problem wasn't that he didn't take sacks. His problem was awful accuracy. That's what led to int's. |
Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time
What concerned me most about KC last night was that his passes went directly to the defenders. These weren't jump balls where our WRs got outplayed, or tipped passes, or ones where the WRs ran the wrong routes. They went directly to the defenders. I haven't ever seen anything quite like it, and I hope never to do so again.
So while the D was pathetic and surely didn't help (thanks for the helpful adjustments, Haslett -- not), I think a huge part of the blame here was KC and his terrible decisions to force throws. |
