Never read anything about the Pope saying he doesn't like Trump. In fact, from what I read, the Pope's words were a generalization. He didn't come out and say, "Donald Trump is not a Christian". Really don't understand why the GOP voters love candidates with no experience so much. Only one of the last five has any executive experience, none of them have any foreign policy experience, which is like 1/2 the job. Two of them have never been elected to anything.

that's why europeans kind of think our version of democracy is a bit crazy. parliaments (like in britain) have elections and the majority party gets the prime minister, who's usually been around and in that party for a long time, and is answerable to them.

the problem with outsiders is that people elect them thinking they'll be able to change things, and don't realize that the president's powers are actually a bit limited, especially if he's fighting congress.

And at any rate, it's an argument about Trump's true spirituality, which is kind of funny, since the thought of liberals is that religion should not have anything to do with who occupies the White House. Yet, this whole thing is based on if Trump is a true Christian or not. I just find it all ironic. Any other team, people would be denouncing anything the Pope has to say, because "Religion shouldn't have anything to do with the political process", yet if he happens to be opposed to a Republican candidate, then it's, "We should listen to the Pope!" The minimum wage, sure I think it needs a small hike and should be a 2 tiered approach in some higher cost of living places....but who should be working on this wage? ....teenagers, maybe early 20s-college kids, part-timers, older folks who may want supplemental income, maybe a spouse who is not the primary wage earner....That's kinda who should be making this.

I really think folks should strive for a higher wage. Some rather make this wage and receive assistance from the government. If you don't think this is true, you should have worked with me when I worked for VCU and worked within the poorer communities of the city.

Folks, Im awestruck at the lack of talk about education in this campaign. This is how you lift folks up. It affects a ton of other issues, especially income inequality, minimum wage, entitlement programs, government spending, etc.

This is really a dumb country. For some reason folks want hand outs...its easier I guess. Free college, free health, free family leave, free everything...

Even $15/hr is a barely livable wage. $10 is a poverty wage.

Fact is wages have been stagnant for far too long. And with so many manufacturing jobs flying out of the country, lower paying jobs like retail/fast food are no longer just for students or housewives. When someone is working two jobs with no healthcare and they need assistance as well, that's just a disgrace. I see this sort of thing every day in my work.

Bernie has been talking about education all along. He's the only candidate that's beating that drum.

It's all part and parcel of the same forces that are leading to Sanders and Trump making strong waves.

I like the 2 party system far more than the fragmented block system used in a lot of places, but our problem is that the 2 parties we have are too entrenched in power, so the parties that spring up are normally on the outside fringe (tea party, green, etc.) There is a place for a middle ground party that espouses moderate social, moral and fiscal policy and could garner enough votes to wedge itself between liberal democrats and conservative republicans. I would LOVE to see Sanders and Trump nominated, hoping that it would bring a coalition of moderates, left and right, together to form a new faction/party. I also want star trek transporters...

the problem with first past the pole (winner take all) voting systems (like we have) is that eventually, they always end up with exactly two parties. in order to build up a viable third or fourth party, you'd need to switch to proportional representation (ie, libertarians get 20% of the votes, they get 20% of the seats).

thankfully we live in Virginia which was largely unaffected by the economic collapse of 2008...due to a number of factors...but a lot of folks across the country have struggled. Like Matty stated above, a lot of folks due to the Bush/Obama economy cant make enough to live on and have to get help. Some fault is on those individuals, some on economic factors.

Certainly if you known anybody that has fought war or been deployed have been affected.

The failures of both Bush and Obama are evident. Bush economic policies, Obama foreign policies.

This country could do a lot better....ALOT better. National deficit, stagnant wage growth along with cost of living are absolutely terrible right now. Obama has sat back and watched it happen. Look across the world and there is so much instability abroad its frighten.

Africa, Middle East, South/Central America, South East Asia...I wouldn't travel abroad right now to any of those places. Its absolutely sad...the snowball been rolling and the team of Obama/Kerry/Susan Rice foreign policy has been terrible. Shit Hillary was more effective and she got state department folks killed abroad!
