Makes me nervous. Really nervous. Seeing cousins in another uniform tearing it up in 2017 will be a bad, bad thing. There just must be something about him that they don't like for them to not want to lock him up.
Think to the future for a minute and i wonder what team would be most interested in him this off-season. Guess it depends on how a few teams do with their "new" QB's this year....
Start preparing for a long nervous season..... |

They just want to make sure last year wasn't a fluke before they empty the coffers. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
This has dragged on long enough. My feeling is KC probably doesn't have the warmest feelings towards ownership and Allen. He had to sit though the RG3 sideshow for 3 years. He had a front row seat to all the coddling.

Nah, This is just business like Flacco and Baltimore (I hope for the same outcome). When we sign KC it will be at numbers similar to what Luck just got and we want to make sure he can win against better opponents, and he sees what Luck and Osweiler got and wants what he considers fair market value. |

I'm sure he's pissed about $20m guaranteed for this year with plenty more on the way. He signed that offer pretty damn quick, he could have made things ugly if he really wanted to. |

Not only that, he just doesn't seem like a guy to cause ANY controversy.

Not to mention endorsements. Most places he would go he'd get a roughly similar paycheck but a huge drop-off in endorsement potential. DC loves Cousins now and if he continues to deliver, will land some major endorsements this offseason for one of the nation's biggest markets. "You like that" will no longer go to charity. |

Idk where you guys are getting this nice guy impression from, ever since we traded all those draft picks for him it seems like he wants everything handed to him on a silver platter.

Redskins GM won't sign Cousins at expense of other good, young players
This is interesting
Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan says he wants to re-sign quarterback Kirk Cousins to a long-term extension, but not if it means he can't afford to pay the team's young prospects. "(You've) got to step back and say 'Okay, who do we have next year? (Are) there three to five to seven guys that we want to extend prior to the last year of their deal, or do we want to go after one and know we’re going to lose three or four next year?" McCoughan replied to a question about Cousins on SiriusXM Bleacher Report Radio, according to Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post. "So it’s a fine line, and like I said, it’s tough, but that’s why we do this," McCloughan continued. "It’s the market. The NFL’s a phenomenal, phenomenal entity, and the money’s incredible. But the way I look at it is I want Kirk in a long-term deal, no doubt about it, but also I’m not gonna put our franchise in a situation where we’re gonna lose three or four younger guys that I think are gonna be good football players for one guy. I won’t do it. You know, that’s just how it is. "And the quarterback position’s very very important, but you know what, so is every other position," McCloughan added. “We need football players. We need multiple football players, not one."
LINK |

This is why when McC's down on the field before and after the game, players are coming up to this guy smiling, hugging, etc. They respect this guy and want to play for him. He building a TEAM folks...Its all about TEAM. Not 1 player. |

Otherwise, he would have never made that statement about not being able to keep the young guys. My guess is they figure that if they get all the pieces around the QB, they could make do with any scrub / average Quarterback that they wouldn't have to break the bank for. |

Earlier this offseason, McCloughan said, "Kirk will be here a long time. ... If it's not done by July 15, don't worry, we'll get something figured out."

This is an audition year for Kirk. We know that already. This dilemma of who to pay will be much clearer in several months.

Or there's this gem: Kirk Cousins found out what the Redskins thought of his value: Not much - Washington Times They bring up the situation of how much Cousins reminds Mr. Snyder of Mike Shanahan. Mention over and over again how Dan Snyder refused to have RG3 benched, and even today is probably not very rosy over the fact that his guy is gone an Cousins is still here. He puts up numbers again, he is not going anywhere and he gets paid. Simple as that.
this is the bottomline. Say if Cousins bombs...has a bad season, showing regression and we do decide to move on. Guess what, some team is going to give him a big contract just based on 2015...QB is too sought after and there is always an ego to say "we can fix him" and get him back to a high level. Cousins is getting a big contract here or somewhere else. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
With the OL and receivers he has, he should not regress. If he does, then maybe he's not who we thought he was and doesn't belong here. He will be fine.

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
The only thing that makes it more complicated is the dreaded injury bug. Tears an ACL in week 10 - what do you do if you're McCloughan? What do you do if you're Cousins?
Otherwise it's definitely simple. Good thing I don't believe in jinxes. |

Negative Nancy, A year in football is a decade in normal life. Give Cousins 20million this year, and next year, if he has proven himself, he will understand that it takes a team. This year was simply both sides setting limits and that's ok. We don't want KC taking a low offer and skipping out of town at the end, AND we don't want the team overpaying and being tied to him if the typical redskin qb scenario plays out. The team has and will pay for players who are worth paying for, if KC shows himself to be a competent qb, he will be with the team for a long time. Money will not be the reason he leaves. |

I missed posting this one earlier. I think all of it sounds pretty true. Mr. Snyder probably hates that "football people" proved him wrong on a player for the 3,762nd time since he became owner. He is pissed off about the RG3 epic failure, and not about to take it lightly. He absolutley would want to humiliate and embarass Cousins even if it means a losing season. He has shown that in the past, with coach firings, etc... Nobody gets one up on him, nobody..... In the end, it is unalienable fact: This is Mr. Dan Snyder's team, and in the end, he will always get what he wants as owner... The players and personnell that are here, will only be here if he wants them. |
