nice I loled. I am not at all convinced the skins crap the bed with or without cousins. If I had to place a bet on what happens this year I would say it is when most realize how good a coach Gruden is. We are sitting pretty well headed into the draft. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Patriots are still "keeping close tabs" on free agent Dont'a Hightower.
The Patriots were comfortable letting Hightower set his value on the open market, and that is looking like a good decision early in free agency. Although there have been reports about interest, Hightower has yet to be solidly linked to any team. With New England always in win-now mode, they should be looking to bring back Hightower if the price is right. Soft market for Hightower so far? Interesting...
Belichick is just waiting for some team to set the market for Hightower so he can then determine the "home team discount" price to offer him. If the Skins want him, they should invite him to Redskins Park and offer him an excellent contract that is good until he leaves the building. Otherwise, they'll just be doing NE's work for them. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Logan left, no contract.
I thought it was hilarious that people were slitting their wrists before we even made one move.
Meaningless side note how tall is Pryor anyway? NFL.com says 6'4, this article says 6'6, and I saw another article say 6'5? Why the big discrepancy? Can someone get this guy in front of a tape measure already?
I admit the first day was an overreaction on my part, BUT I still think without another DL signing we got worse. I didnt know Baker was lumped in a bad attitude group. Until McClain proves it on our team that will the worst in books. I do like Pryor/Doctson/Crowder as our WR 1,2,3 Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Even if Baker/McClain is a wash, or slight edge to Baker for his fanboys, McGee is better than anyone else we had depth wise on the roster last year. Adding in Swearinger and I think we've definitely upgraded on the D side of things. Plenty more work to do of course.

And I don't think they're done by a long shot. Jax can flame out early with the big splurge deals. We'll bide our time and pick up several quality depth guys for bargains in late March. Still hoping for Logan on the DL, or other starting caliber guy. Those crapping on Logan forget how good he was in their 3-4. Was injured last year and the 4-3 didn't suit him quite as well. |

Not weird, smart. He wasn't fired because he didn't know player personnel. |

Interestingly, @AlbertBreer just said on his live stream DJ Swearinger was Scot McCloughan's number 1 free agent priority for the #Redskins |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
McGee is rated as Baker's equal by PFF. If you don't like PFF fine, but you can't deny he was a big part of the DL rotation on a very good Raider defense. I don't think we lose anything going from Baker to McGee, personally.
On McClain it does feel to me like we overpaid for a journeyman. But he does penetrate well. I want Logan bad, he's better than Baker.
Schneed normally I agree with your well-thought out positions, but the Raiders defense was pretty bad last year. They not only gave up a lot of yards, but they gave up 2 more points than our equally terrible defense last year. The one thing they were great at was turnover differential, they were +16 which was tied for first with KC last year. I also agree on Bennie Logan though, if we can get him even at 7 mil or so for the year I'd do it. |

It is interesting to consider whether talent evaluation was really the issue or just a lack of philosophy/identity etc. Bruce had a really good draft the year he was GM after Shanny was fired, even without a 1st round pick. His one successful draft, albeit a small sample size, suggests talent evaluation isn't an issue. Remember though, at that period of time though, nobody knew what a "Redskin" was. McLovin brought, as much as anything, an identity to the team. He sought out players who loved the game of football (not just the money) more than anything, who were tough as nails. That type of personality is contagious. I really hope the team continues to prioritize those intangibles. |

We need to sign someone tomorrow solely for us to have more to talk about.

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
I think Chris Baker is better than either of the guys but they didn't want Baker for some reason, so that is that. Baker was a starter for us. What if these guys aren't expected to be starters as we obtain more talent in FA and the draft? The question then becomes "are they better than Ricky Jean, Ziggy, etc".
I was bummed with the Baker loss, but not OMG type pissed. We have 10 picks and a ton of DTs and LBs in this draft that are excellent caliber. I am not sure why we grabbed those two. Could have saved $$$$$$$$$ to get Bennie for sure or another true starter. The rooks we draft could start or rotate with Bennie if we get him. Why waste roster space with more guys with injury problems, etc? |

Agreed.. Sounds like they are following Scott's plans in draft / FA, so perhaps the two DT we signed were targeted by Scott. But then again, Scott has had many misses in FA, esp on Dline, so who knows if they will work out. Would love Logan or another legit DT to feel more confident about the line. Looking forward to 10 picks this draft, but a little uneasy without a GM, even if we have his board. |

Hopefully one named Josh Doctson. I think he is the X factor as far as how our passing game stacks up against last years. We need him to come through in a bigly way. |

Heard Pryor on NFL radio today, impressive guy. You can tell he's hungry to keep improving and be the best player he possibly can be. Definitely a guy that enjoys the grind.
More on what was said earlier about him hooking up with Kirk... Seems like remaining good DTs:
- Dontari Poe - 26yrs - "Market Value": $12million/yr -- probably too expensive? - Johnathan Hankins - 24yrs - "Market Value": $8-9million/yr - Roy Miller - 29yrs - ? value Numbers above are complete guesses, and the longer they don't sign somewhere the more the market value numbers may go down.. Hoping we get one of these or another proven option before the draft.. |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings
Im a little surprised we have heard little movement on the ILB possibilities. Zach Brown, Gerald Hodges, Kevin Minter, Hightower, Manti Teo, Brandon Spikes, etc...all these guys available I believe.
I look at Wil Compton and see a lot of disappointment from last season where he flat out cannot make plays. |
