Im saying the same thing i was before. Just expounding on it.
Team A gets ball and scores TD. Over.

I think my baseball extra innings argument is a good one though. Both teams play offense and defense until one team scores more than the other. Should be the same way but as usual football gotta be different.

I feel like im beating a dead horse but you keep asking what i meAn. Lol. So here i go again.
Each team gets the ball until one team scores more than the other does in a particular split possession series. How many games will drag on forever? 7 beats 3. 7 beats 0. 3 beats 0. Etc. Not complicated. Not a forever game. In college they go on forever because they start at the opposing teams 30.

Real sudden death where first score wins wasn't unfair to the loser of the toss before the evolution of the rules to extremely favor the offense. I would be interested to see a study of overtime games by the decade. With the rules governing personal fouls now, especially to a QB and the pass interference calls, it is common for teams to have scoring drives with a big chunk of the yardage coming on questionable calls. Considering that I think there needs to be some rule changes, something like a hybrid between the pro and college system.

I doubt we see any changes to OT anytime soon.
IMO, I say put 12 minutes on the clock in first OT and play 12 minutes. No sudden death.

If still tied at the end of the first OT, move to a second that has sudden death defined.

I was rooting for the Rams but anybody who says that wasn't a penalty (h2h or pass interference) is lying to themselves. NFL is fucking up ignoring it too, they should've just released a statement after the game and apologized for it.

So you're telling me that in a game where there there were 3 TDs by one team and 2 TDs by the other team just in the fourth quarter there's no advantage to winning the coin flip?

In the days when the scores were lower I could imagine the impact of the coin flip being lower.

But these days, where a lot of the playoff teams score 30 points routinely, I would think the coin flip would have a huge impact. Someone should look at the impact when the (tied) score at the end of regulation was something like 28 or above. (Or even better, a breakdown based on the (tied) score at the end of regulation.)

Also, parity via the salary cap is pure fraud. It just makes it so the teams that have been successful will continue to be so since the expectation that that success is continued is worth a lot to the players looking for a new team. Thus, the teams at the top stay at the top and the ones at the bottom stay at the bottom. (Haven't the Patriots been able to get players at bottom dollar since they hoped to win a championship if they played for them?) Have you seen much rotation in the top or bottom teams since the salary cap went into effect? Have you seen the rotation in what NCAA schools are at the top since they're all allowed the same number of football scholarships?

If you want a level playing field then you have to allow less-successful teams to have a larger salary cap so they can offset the undesirablilty to play there with extra money to even out the attractiveness of their offers with better teams.

Strange that Haslam has a history of firing people in no time flat yet he kept Hue Jackson for 40 games. Also strange that Hue Jackson got so angry after getting fired, wasn't his record the worst in NFL history for 40 games?

How would you justify firing a coach that went 8-7-1 that year? If you fire a coach McVay liked and admired what makes you think he would have taken the job?

Since when has Snyder ever justified firing anyone?

In this case, he would have been firing a perpetually mediocre coach for the prospect of someone truly special.

And they should do something as simple as ask McVay if he would have taken the job. Offer to make Jay his OC if he wanted it. It would be hard to feel sorry for an OC making 5m a year.

This isn't a clear cut screw up because of the factors that Keim laid out in the article but it is indicative of being short sighted and willing to settle for the sure mediocre thing.

Another way to look at it would be how hot of a HC candidate would Jay have been if he was fired then, or now for instance?
