glad to have AP back.

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
NFL.com suggests we should go after Cooper and have the cap to do that. But can't help feeling if we commit $10M+ to Hooper (for example) and $15M+ to Cooper that's more than 1/2 our cap space eaten up on 2 players. Is Cooper worth chasing? I'd lean towards teh draft myself.

yes to both. We will likely enter free agency top 6 in cap space and this includes Alex Smith's 20M in dead money. Next year, with the likely insurance settlement and tax credit, we can move that off the books. Not to mention we'll be under a new CBA that should increase the cap significantly in coming years. Bottom line - we've got plenty of money to play with. We're loaded with defensive talent in the front 7 and this is before chase young. Add a starting CB, and Del Rio will have enough to get some good production out of our defense. We need to surround Haskins with talent. Giving him an elite TE and WR to pair with McLaurin would go a LONG way towards ensuring Haskins has everything he needs to succeed. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
No reason to bring back AP. My reasons are that I don't want backs that are not a threat to catch the ball. Also we are still in rebuild mode so I'm not going to have a fossil RB. Even though AP can still play I just don't get this one. Let him go somewhere where he can possibly get a title.

If AP wanted to go somewhere to get a title, it would have happened already. I'm fine with this, AP can bring leadership to the RB group and the offense altogether. Also, if Guice injury concerns go away and we have a nice tandem of Guice and Love, you can always trade AP later in the year. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Shooting in the dark - TE Kyle Rudolph will be cut. I dont want him, hes 30 and on the down side. Calais Campbell, Marcel Dareus, Cameron Hayward, Joe Haden, Cordraell patterson looks to be a cut.
We should see some cuts coming in soon, kinda surprised things havent kicked off yet. FA - i would only sign guys coming off their rookie deals that their original team wanted to keep but couldnt bc of price or glut at position. We lost Preston Smith and Trent Murphy that way. Those seem like the real value buys vs 30 plus year old FAs. |

No reason? Have you seen the injury reports from the past 2 years? He's our only consistent player in the backfield. And at that price I feel it was a no-brainer to bring him back. |

Seems very doubtful to me. A team can cut a player that isn't on a guaranteed contract, but the League can't force a player to retire for medical reasons if he's been medically cleared. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
You're right, it's definitely a personal decision once a player is medically cleared. I just hope the kid does what's best for his future health. At some point he has to realize there's more to life than football...and if he takes anymore of those hits to the head, he's jeopardizing that life...

My point, again, is that the CBA during this renegotiation can include provisions for recognizable longterm health exclusions, like multiple concussions, being bars to continued employment.

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Cred, they could go that route, but they won't.
As long as a guy is healthy and wants to play, he can. Nobody will touch Reed when he comes back and has another long term concussion though. I honestly already worry about him because he missed the entire year due to one concussion. That's the stage where he should realize football isn't worth jeopardizing the rest of his life. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Fucking sucks he got such a terrible concussion on a 100% dog shit of a hit during a pre season game.
I think he should retire. But walk a mile in his shoes and it's not nearly as easy. He is a young, elite athlete, that has probably dominated at football and/or other sports for 20+ years. Doubt I would walk away if I was him. |

Nah I'm saying if he signs with another team and his next concussion (because you know there's some dirty player out there that would take a 15 yard penalty to knock Reed out of a game) lasts another year+ then it might be harder to convince another team to take a chance on him. Even now he's looking at a team friendly deal, nobody will tie up big money in a guy who can't play 16 games a year. |

Hard for a union to argue it is about player safety AND say the league is at fault for long term effects of concussions, if they aren't willing to acknowledge that at some point a player's medical history puts his long term health at too high a risk. |

I think it suits us well to cut him as soon a possible in hopes of adding to the market available TE. I think he would go to play in NE for a low deal. |

I would say ultimately as a starting point ... a player should responsible for making decisions regarding their long term health. The concussion settlement was about the NFL hiding or not disclosing brain injury information to players. Now I hope all players are aware of the risks and able to get competent medical advice so they can make the best informed decision for themselves. I imagine if a player disagrees with a league or team doctor .. does it go to neutral 3rd party arbitration? Doesnt the CBA have to still comply w labor laws? Would the remaining non-guaranteed money now be guaranteed? Arent there mechanisms already in place to pseudo force a player to retire like we are seeing w Reed? It sounds like to much of a slippery slope and something I dont think Goodell and the NFLPA could handle correctly. |

Crazy how he wants to play again with his concussion history. The damn things are cumulative, the next one will be easier to get than the last, and probably worse. He gets them so easily now you could probably bounce a tennis ball off his head and give him one. He needs to retire or he could end up in a home for Alzheimer's patients by the time he is in his 40's. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
I can't believe that Reed still wants to play. Someone needs to sit him down and tell him it's over. You have the rest of your life to live. Just for his own good hopefully no one will sign him and he will be forced to retire.

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
Reed coming off of the concussion protocol means that the Redskins will drop him sooner rather than later. I’d say within a week.
Olsen went to a playoff level team and a crazy amount of money -$7 mill. I thought he might come here for $5 mill, but he is way overpriced. Glad we didn’t try to beat that price. The team is saving to pay for Hooper - around $10 mill per year. I think Hooper will be our top FA desire. He is not at the very top elite TE level, but right below that at the “very good” level and will help out Haskins immensely. They’ll also draft for TE. I really question whether the Redskins will target a high-dollar WR like Cooper. I believe the team will us their third round (#66) for WR, to fill the WR#2 spot. That draft pick will compete with Harmon. I think the Redskins are going to spend their money solidifying their OL. Scherff will cost $15 mill a year, Trent Williams will also be expensive and they will sign Flowers for a long-term deal. If they do that the biggest problem will be what to do with Moses. He had a terrible season and had a boatload of penalties. They will either keep him to hope he improves or replace him with Martin OR an OT FA. They will also draft OT in the draft and UDFA and hope they have one that takes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think he's concerned he'll be hurt before his big payday. I think the Redskins will rebuild Dunbar's contract, but only after the Combine and the opening of FA. The Redskins have some big FA signings to go and one of them has to do with the CB FA they will sign next month. There are a lot of ways the Redskins can go in FA for CB but I wonder if they might just take the shortest and cheapest route by re-hiring Kendall Fuller. He'll be pretty inexpensive and if he returns to form when he played here before, he'll be a real bargain. But besides TE (Hooper or Henry) the CB might be a position where they put some FA money if the don't go the Fuller route. I think the Redskins will resign Dunbar with a contract to keep him happy, just not right away - which might be a little bump for crying to the media. I doubt he will be traded, they need him too much. |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
If we can pick up a quality TE in free agency like Hopper or Henry then I would think it would be on the smarter spectrum to not make a splash in the WR market this season. Give Haskins another pass catcher to continue to build his confidence and move us down the field. Spend some money on a quality CB (especially with the Dunbar drama) like Bradberry and/or Byron. Extend our Guards and look to add some depth to our RT spot, I like Viatai from the eagles. He’s Shown promise and give him a chance to overtake Moses starting spot. If at this point there’s enough left to scrap a multi year deal to Tre Boston go for it.
With a similar FA period to what is above I would then like to see us. Take Young (baring an unlikely RG3 deal) and then come back in the 3 and start to fill in some of the remaining gaps WR, CB, LB, TE etc. Spend the majority of offseason and solidify our defense. Then go into next offseason with an offensive mindset. And work on closing more gaps. There are no glaring holes that 1 or 2 FA pickup will make up Super Bowl ready. Work to our strengths and backfill |
Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread
IMO this off season we will get a TE, LB. FS. (2)CB's and a OT (and a partridge in a pear tree) all in FA. We are building a dominating defense makes sense with a Defensive minded HC.
