You are probably just as upset about the confederate flag being frowned upon so honestly idc wtf u think... |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Okay, so we change the name - Redskins to Red Tails.
Next the fight song will be outlawed - Braves on the warpath? Racist overtones. Then websites with any native american references - Warpath to Flight Path? Personally, I will always refer to the team as the Redskins whatever happens. :) |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
If they MUST change it, how do you feel about "Buckskins" ? - that way its possible to preserve the nickname 'Skins.. and the 'Skins-Cowboy's rivalry?
|
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Here's a possible solution for adapting the "Fight Song" - What d'you think? I think its serviceable/okay:
Hail to the Redtails (or Buckskins)! Hail Victory! March to the End Zone! Fight for old D.C.! Run or pass and score—We want a lot more! Beat 'em, Swamp 'em, Touchdown! -- Let the points soar! Fight on, fight on 'Til you have won Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Rah!, Rah!, Rah! Hail to the Redtails! Hail Victory! March to the End Zone! Fight for old D.C.! |

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
Things change. The society is changing rapidly right now. The team name will change with it. You know, The March of Time, etc. There isn't a thing anybody on this board can do to stop it. Nor can Dan Snyder. It was inevitable. So relax and get over the name thing.
The name change is no longer in dispute because Dan Snyder can't afford to lose a fortune by rejecting his major sponsors' "requests" that he change the team name, "or else". Right now, Snyder is simply going through some face-saving busy work routine before announcing the name change and rebranding that he already made plans for years ago. |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I will never ever ever wear anything other then my REDSKINS gear. I am not going to follow this fake ass movement that is going on. A bunch of pandering (mostly white) people who really don't give two shits about native americans. I just can't get behind it cause it's empty. It's fake. It's weak as hell. I will never call this team the Washington Warriors. Ever.
|
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
It’s all political anyways ... I will always remember the Redskins and the joy and frustration they gave me ! Hopeful that the Native American tradition will continue with a few tweaks .. I kinda like the Warpath as a team nickname .. Washington Warpath !! I just hope it’s not some watered down name like the federals or monuments or something with different colors .. the feather on the helmet with a W would be nice .. if the teams retains the Native American theme I think most are on board ..
If I walked onto a reservation and 8 out of 10 Native Americans said they didn't give a shit or supported the name and 2 didn't like it, I would keep on keepin' on. There's always going to be people offended by something. Should we stop killing and eating animals because PETA is offended? When 8 out of 10 people who identify as Native American aren't offended, that was good enough for me. That's no longer the case. Now it's 20% of Native Americans, the entire Democratic party, District and federal officials who own RFK, and Fedex, Nike, and $620 billion worth of corporate money backing them. It's now overwhelmingly negative, and as such an announcement will be coming soon. I'm not gonna tweak about it when it's gone, and I'm not denying up until March, there was a small group of Native Americans offended by the name. But you're not gonna get an apology out of me either for supporting the name up until now.
Nike and Fed Ex really don't care about the name. They didn't give a damn until the dirty pig killed Floyd. Now all of a sudden they care? 😏 As far as DC their govt is basically retarded. Here you had Marshall's statue up in front of RFK for decades. Then you decide to take it down now when no one goes to the stadium and when it's going to be demolished? Got it. I would forgive Snyder for all of his mishaps if he came out and said.. " sorry we ain't changing shit and are not going to be pressured into anything".. And also Ron R has been here 6 minutes and hasn't won a damn game. He should have ZERO say in this.. |

But Dan can't put Ron in charge of the entire operation (which it is clear he did) and then say his input isn't welcome on the name. Also Jimbo you bring nothing to this conversation and it pains me that I am on the same side as you. |

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I think this is an issue that is just going to happen. Dan Snyder is facing the loss of hundreds of MILLIONS of dollars if he doesn’t move. Things do change and this is a done deal - New Team Name
When Snyder makes the change a lot of positive things happen: 1. Some fans come back who stayed away from the team. 2. Hundreds of millions flows back to the team. 3. New name may mean new uniforms, etc., Which is more money to the team (although NFL Labeled stuff go into the pool shared by all teams). 4. Snyder can say this is the NEW START for his team after 20 years of mediocrity. 5. He can get the D.C. politicians behind his move to build a new stadium where RFK STADIUM stood. If Snyder is going on the Native American route then it will depend on couple of things: A. The tribe has to agree to using their name. They might get paid for it. B. This may sound stupid but he may go for a tribe name with TWO SYLLABLES. That way it fits into the teams fight song. C. I would think he would go with a team with a warrior culture. Some tribes were basically peaceful (Navaho). WARRIOR CULTURE D. A FAMOUS TRIBE that has name recognition. There are HUNDREDS OF TRIBES in America, many of them small. I think he would go for a FAMOUS, PLAINS INDIAN TRIBE that has two syllables, and will allow use of their name: CHEYENNE I can’t think of any more teams with all the criteria. Warrior culture tribes like APACHE (3 syllables), SIOUX (one syllable), COMMANCHE (3 syllables) don’t fit. Of course, he could just change the fight song, but it appears that Snyder is going for tradition (keeping our famous fight song intact). I may be making too much of a tribe that fits the fight song, but if there are hundreds of Native American tribes to choose from, why not pick one where it causes the least changes? I think that is what Snyder is going for. FAMOUS TRIBE WARRIOR CULTURE TWO SYLLABLES (fits fight song) TRIBE WILLING TO Let the Team Use Their Name CHEYENNE Can anyone think of another famous tribe, with a warrior culture, that is two syllables? Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
On the same theme he could go with
MOHAWK - an EASTERN tribe, warrior culture, well known (a tribe used in the famous American novel and movie, “Last of the Mohicans”) AND - no need to change the fight song or most of the team gear. They may change the Native American profile on the helmet back to the ARROW profile. My best guess now: MOHAWK CHEYENNE It will be MOHAWK if the tribe agrees to it. They would get paid to use the name and it would bring positive light on the tribe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hmmmm Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
My major issue with this and the same with Redtails or any other name that involves a minority group. There will come a time in the future when the general perception of society will change. Will the name be considered a caricature, an appropriation or embracing a stereotype? Dan needs to think about the endgame here. Does he want to be rebranding 30 years from now because the tribal leader or societal position has changed? |

If that Tribe is getting Royalties/Cash Flow from their partnership..I don't see them reversing their decision in the future. That is easy money IF they as a tribe don't see Redskins as a slight (which many native American sports teams are named Redskins) The NFL may not survive 2020 the way it's going. My interest is pretty much gone. |

I think the NFL going out of business is now a possibility. The revenue lost from missing this season has to be huge. And if the pandemic draws on, as is expected, they could lose next season too. Hard to imagine the league staying afloat with no way to play games or generate much revenue. |

Yeah, the NFL also strikes me as a league short on cash. Some say the XFL was doing even better than the NFL was. |

Do they have enough cash to be sidelined for multiple seasons while the virus calms down? Nobody has that kind of cash and you know it. |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I don't think there is a single group of owners that wouldn't be able to wait a year or two out. If not there are plenty of billionaires that would want to get into the NFL if an owner had to sell. I think football is too important to U.S. to not have professional football.

Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
There hasn’t been a better time for a name change and I think Snyder could be inline to make a lotta money from in multiple ways. I’m just ready for the new season.

NFL shut down for multiple seasons? This is so detached from reality I don’t know where to even begin. |

My guess is two seasons at the most. This year is lost because of the COVID getting out of control, and next year will be lost as the country continues to recover socially and economically, but there is still very high daily case numbers because the vaccine needs time to reach as many people as possible. So i think it is two seasons without football, but no more than that. |
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
It’s simple economics, there’s too much TV money on the table to fold up shop. The NFL will press forward.
|
Re: Skins getting heat again over name issue
I wonder if this will evolve into the intellectual dishonest discussion now if you wear redskins items...or say redskins then you are a racist? I gotta feeling it will
Then I’ll ask fans if you pull that garbage bullshit, how in the fuck were u ever a fan of the redskins in the first place? |

Our own fanbase will criticize each other for being racist for supporting the team that we all used to love and support. I have a camouflage redskins hat that i have worn for years, now i am legit afraid of wearing it. Same thing with all of my T-Shirts, jerseys, etc.. |

I can see Florio now writing his bullshit headlines “white supremacist in racist attire still attending Washington Warriors games” or “should Warrior ban racist attire at their games?” People can’t see this, seriously? |

Florio and Peter King are not even worth my time.
