buyers market and we're set to do some buyin'
I keep hearing expect lots of 1 yr deals. Being able to give players multiple years compared to one year deals can be a huge advantage.

on the flip side players might want the shorter deal in order to have another bite at the apple next year with what's going to be a significantly higher cap

ESPN simulated FA ... they have us signing no one (on their list) and only offering TE Jonnu Smith but losing out. I imagine we do target Smith .. like a lot of other teams. Seahawks would be my guess.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31040272/just-one-season-hefty-four-year-contract-miami-dolphins-cut-veteran-linebacker-kyle-van-noy

Van Noy released ... kinda strange. Phins have cap space, he was a captain last year ... hes labeled an edge rushing LB and doesnt fit our need imo.

Chiefs release LT Eric Fisher (80 pff, 30 yrs old) and RT Schwwartz (74 pff, 31 yrs old)

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31044604/kansas-city-chiefs-release-former-no-1-overall-draft-pick-eric-fisher

If we had a QB, id kick the tires on Fisher but since we dont we arent really contenders this year so ...

not having a QB sucks ..
You don't think this team will be contenders this year?
Right now I am skeptical. We don't have a QB that is not injury prone. I am cautiously optimistic we could be the same 7-9 win window with Allen if he stays healthy. I am hoping for the best for Heinicke and I don't want Montez even sniffing the field.

MTK 03-11-2021 11:46 AM

Re: Around the NFL: NFL Offseason

Montez should be an easy cut especially if we can draft someone, he's the odd man out for sure.

I keep telling myself that but idk ... without a QB, everything else seems like window dressing to go at best 8-8. The NFCE will not be as easy next year.

Just pouting like a lil bitch right now. FA hasnt even started and Im feeling like we will make "day 2" moves if that makes sense.

Re: Around the NFL: NFL Offseason

And for that reason alone I expect 8 wins to be the minimum next year. We can only get better, even if it's only a marginal improvement.

idk man .. next year we have a harder schedule, NFCE will be better.

One thing is certain, us here will watch all 17 games, root for our squad and if its the Allen and Heinike show .. lets roll!

Long ways to go, but until proven otherwise, here's how I rank the NFC East right now.

WFT
NYG
DAL
PHI

That's why I hope the main emphasis this offseason will be on defense. I want them to add a couple pieces on offense (QB being the number 1 priority), WR, TE, but both Jack and RR are defensive guys, and I would think they are looking to build a truly dominant D.

i have a feeling they are going to do the Allen/Heinicke to start this year and select one of Mond or Newman (i prefer newman) in the middle rounds to eventually take over.

Re: Around the NFL: NFL Offseason

Milano, back with Buffalo. He was probably an option for a lot of fan bases. Gotta love sports, sounded like he was gone from Buffalo. Back for a reasonable deal.

Apparently guard is way more important than linebacker. L. David is back with the Bucs for 2 years and 24 million. Milano is back with the Bills for 4 and 44. And we just paid a G 18 million. And yes, there is a huge difference between 12 and 18. There is a huge difference between 18 and 16. This franchise tag for Scherff has negatively effected the rest of the roster for the future beyond this year. The money spent on him this year, could've been used to sign multiple guys to multi year contracts.

Chiefs just cut both of their starting tackles, took the RB5 in last year's class in the first round and the year before that took Mecole over DK, McLaurin and Diontae and the year before that gave Sammy Watkins $16m/year (more than Allen Robinson in same FA class).

Dak has a better contract than Mahomes. Mahomes can cover-up a lot of things.

Pat just stays learning from the GOAT. I love Mahomes. He could've held out for 50 million per year if he wanted to. 50 million is extreme, but I'd take PM at 40M per year, with a smile on my face. I'm lying, I'd smile at 50 million too. And have fingers crossed for COVID vaccinations work, and the TV contracts going ham, to pump that salary cap up.

But Chiefs better get a better strategy than we have Mahomes, nothing else matters.

Well, leaving the team enough money to pay a good o-line keeps him healthier. That means he can play longer and earn still more money.

Am I missing something? I’ve seen several reports of teams signing players, but I don’t understand how players can be signed right now if free agency doesn’t start until next week? Ingram to Houston, Miami signs a punter.

TJ Watt already signed.

I am not sure how they can sign before free agency.

Makes sense to bring him back as a bridge QB given that they are likely to draft a new guy. He knows the system and who else are they going to sign for that money that can at least be effective?

That makes no sense to me though. You still a FA whether you were cut or on an expiring contract. Seems like it should be the same for everyone.
That makes no sense to me though. You still a FA whether you were cut or on an expiring contract. When a player is cut he is no longer under a valid contract and is free to look for other teams either immediately or after clearing waivers depending on how many years he has in the league.
