TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida is the last state to submit a plan to the U.S. Department of Education that's required before more than $2.3 billion in federal aid for Florida schools can be released, according to a letter sent to the state Monday.

The letter sent to Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran said the state Department of Education missed the deadline to release American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) money.

“The Department released the first two-thirds of each State’s allocation in March and required each State to submit its plan for spending its ARP ESSER funds by June. FDOE did not meet this deadline, nor did it meet the July and August submission timelines that were anticipated following conversations with your staff,” wrote Ian Rosenblum, the federal department's deputy assistant secretary for policy and programs.

Rosenblum said the delay makes it harder for school districts to plan.

“We have heard repeatedly from parents, teachers, and superintendents from school districts in Florida that FDOE has not yet awarded ARP ESSER funds to local educational agencies,” he wrote.

I thought Texas was a no property tax state and they are. But somehow they are one of the top 6 states that benefit from SALT itemized deductions?

I guess the local property taxes are big? They dont have a state property tax.

This was still a President targeting a certain group of Americans bc they didnt vote for him.

The thing with salt and why it’s generally associated with blue states is the tax policy of those states. But people take the salt deduc all over the country…most likelly wealthy counties. Florida, North Carolina, Virginia…all over. The main problem with blue states and overbearing tax policy, combined with out of controlled spending… is folks in California and New York were leaving. Instead of belt tightening which never seems to be an option…they want no accountability, it’s ALWAYS bigger government.

Why is accountability never the answer here? Accountability within federal, state and city government should be the number 1 goal in taxing and spending policy.

Like why is there hundreds of billions not spent, sitting in the coffers of state and city governments from previous covid bailout bills? Shouldn’t we be asking these questions?

I just don’t think folks know or even care about these numbers.
