Because Trump and MAGA have corrupted the party. That said given historical patterns the Dems wouldn't be calling on Menendez to resign if the modern GOP didn't find itself in the situation with Santos and Trump that they are in. (Dems don't want to undermine their actions against the more important GOP criminal elements by supporting their own criminals which given historical patterns they would have done - ie Ed Kennedy).
LOL," historical patterns". We're dealing with now, not a half a century ago. . It's Ted Kennedy. |

OPEC is going into a death spiral – because of China https://news.yahoo.com/opec-going-death-spiral-because-160000924.html Watch what Saudi Arabia does, not what it says. Saudi and OPEC officials self-evidently do not believe their own claim that world oil demand will keep growing briskly for another generation as if electric vehicles had never been invented, and there was no such thing as the Paris Accord. OPEC had to slash output last October in order to shore up prices. It had to cut again in April. The Saudis then stunned traders with a unilateral cut of one million barrels a day (b/d) in June. All told, the OPEC-Russia cartel has had to take 2m b/d of production off the table at a high point in the economic cycle, after China’s post-Covid reopening and at a time when the US economy has been running hot with a fiscal expansion roughly equal to Roosevelt’s world war budget. That 2m b/d figure happens to be more or less the amount of crude currently being displaced by EV sales worldwide, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Talk of peak oil demand is “withering under scrutiny”, said Saudi Aramco chief, Amin Nasser. Consumption will ratchet up from 102m b/d to 110m b/d by 2030, and rise further until 2035 before stabilising at a high plateau through to mid-century. This skips over the awkward detail that EVs are already on track to reach 60pc of total car sales in the world’s biggest car market within two years (not a misprint). The cartel is being hit from two sides. Petrol and diesel cars are becoming more efficient, gradually displacing 1.4bn vintage models disappearing into the scrap yard. BP says that alone will cut up to a tenth global oil demand by 2040. With a lag, EVs are now starting to take a material bite, with an S-curve trajectory likely to go parabolic this decade. China’s EVs sales hit 38pc this summer, even though subsidies have mostly been scrapped. This is far ahead of schedule under Beijing’s New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan. |

Some Attendees At Donald Trump's Autoworkers Speech Were Total Frauds: Report https://news.yahoo.com/entertainment/attendees-donald-trumps-autoworkers-rally-110155606.html Some attendees at Donald Trump’s speech about the autoworkers’ strike Wednesday apparently were shills carrying signs falsely identifying them as union members, the Detroit News reported. One person held a sign that said “union members for Trump,” but admitted to the newspaper she was not a union member. Another carried a placard with the words “auto workers for Trump” and confessed he was not an auto worker when the outlet requested an interview. Neither identified themselves. Trump visited Michigan to show solidarity with striking United Auto Workers members, but instead stoked fear about electric cars to the crowd at a nonunion auto parts supplier. He warned workers that they would be out of a job in a few years, even if they secured sought-after salary increases. |

Schumer misjudged on that. He probably thought people would fall in line and making it a purely partisan play (My team versus their team). Glad to see that didn't happen for what seems like the first time in years. Maybe there is some hope for our Republic after all. |

You're overthinking this nonniey. It is so fucking simple - he's got history with previous charges against him, his house is chock full of bribery payouts, he's the head of the Senate foreign relations committee so he holds tremendous influence. There's more red flags here than in China. If he's guilty (which I believe he is) he needs to be locked up and removed from office. It's that simple. Corrupt politicians are bad. Don't overthink this. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
Side note: The federal government typically doesn't bring charges in cases it can't win. So if you get indicted by the feds, there's a really good chance you're guilty.

Not really over thinking this at all. The first time he got indicted the Dems supported him even reelected him - now switch to today different circumstance. The thing I hate with what has happened to the GOP is they used to not elect/reelect/support their criminals when it became known they were criminals - that was a Dem thing to do. Trump and MAGA changed all that (to such a degree that it is mind boggling). (Examples would be Ollie North - lost enough GOP support that he lost in Red Virginia at the time, Nixon - H Baker and other GOPs politicians told him to resign or they would support impeachment). |

I wouldn't know because that was 8 years ago, which is approximately 40 years in my timeline of politics. For me it's simple. Corrupt politicians need to be removed from office and put in jail. He's corrupt. Proceed accordingly. Also apparently 27 other Democratic senators have called for his resignation. That's approximately 25 more than conservative senators that have flipped on Trump. |

Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
History of toilet paper is so .. human. 1800s people wouldnt dare acknowledge that they pooped so no one would talk about it.
We would take newspapers in the toilet to wipe. Or sticks or cloth or moss or communal sponges on ends of sticks. Then a newspaper started adding just empty pages. Two brothers (Scott) started selling toilet paper on rolls in stores but everyone was too embarrassed to be seen buying them. So no one bough them. Hotels started placing toilet paper rolls in their lobby bathrooms and suddenly everyone just so happened to need to take a poop when near a hotel lobby. Flush toilets were starting to be introduced as well and the thicker newspaper would clog the pipes so as flush toilets became a household item .. so did the thinner softer toilet paper roll. ------------ beautiful human vanity to it all To embarrassed to acknowledge that one poops .. so we all walked around with dingleberries and shit stained underwear. |
Re: The Most Fresh & Cordial Political Thread Ever
I am all for talking about pooping but if I am spending 5 years it is going to be on a TP that kills crabs when you use a public toilet not wavy perforations.

I am not a fan of McCarthy however that being said I would prefer having a congress that will actually work to passing a spending bill for the 2 million civilian workers instead of the BS that is going to happen. I don't know what the Democrats end game was here. They missed a golden opportunity to say they are supporting a congress that will get things done instead of throwing it to chaos. On the republican side Gaetz will be disappointed when he sees that a 14 year old girl isn't going to be elected speaker.
