I could personally care less about what Clinton said about Vick and the legal issues. As long as Clinton isn't breaking laws, I don't care. As long as he's not in danger of getting suspended, I really don't give a damn about what his opinion is of dog fighting. I love dogs, however, I don't care about dog fighting. I think it's brutal, but I don't (oddly) have that much of a problem with it. It may be because I have had much larger problems than Michael Vick alledgedly fighting dogs to worry about.

I'm pretty disappointed in Portis for his comments here, mainly because it hits on a personal note because I'm such a dog lover. But in the end, he's not in trouble with the law and consequently will have no impact on the 'Skins in 2007.

I think it's OK that kids, or anyone, look to athletes as role models. But it's important that you teach your kids that when an athlete says something like this, that your child should stop and think about it, and form their own opinion. Have the conversation, so Johnny, do you think dogfighting is OK? Do you think it's OK to see doggies get hurt? Does it make it OK just because Clinton Portis said it's OK? Can you still enjoy watching Clinton Portis play football without agreeing with him about hurting dogs?

And that's the thing. Kids just need to be able to separate what athletes say from what they do. You can teach your kids that.

I disagree with a lot of you on this. For me the problem isn't that Portis articulated his thoughts, but rather, that he had them in the first place. Dog fighting is subhuman and I question the humanity of anyone who doesn't condemn it outright. It's very disappointing because Portis was one of my favorite Redskins of all time and now he's basically just a guy in a uniform.

Anyway...If you derive enjoyment out of forcing or attempting to force animals to fight one another and reap financial benefits then that, my friends, is a problem with your character.

Portis didn't seem to me to come across as totally endorsing the act just trying unsuccessfully to lighten up the criticism towards Vick. I've never leaned towards CP's words as a source of inspiration in the past and still won't.

i think Portis was trying to say that Mike Vick is an alright guy, that doesn't need his every move under the microscope. if Portis runs for 1500 yards, everyone will forget all about this

Mike & Mike picked up on it this morning too, he was nominated for a "Just Shut Up" award and Golic really busted down on him. Portis is an absolute moron, thanks Clinton for giving this team that's already an embarrassment another reason for the media to take a shot at us.
