Re: Our offense is Pathetic
Well if he was perhaps it was Betts fault for not getting deep enough on his route.
Either way I don't think we have conclusive enough evidence to say it was a coaching blunder. Not when there was a wide open guy that JC flat out didn't see. The play was there, the execution was not.
Maybe Betts didnt get deep enough, good point. My point is Betts was the 1st look, if he's open he gets the ball. He was so he did. JC executed the play correctly. |
No its not. Its called face guarding and its illegal.
If I'm not mistaken, face guarding is no longer a penalty under nfl rules. |
Can you call pass interference on a defender if he is turned toward the wide receiver, not looking at the ball, waves his arms, but doesn't touch the wide receiver at all? Say the ball is in the air and hits the defender in the arm because he deflects the pass. Again, he doesn't touch the WR, but isn't looking at the ball either. --Dawn Polomsky, Phoenix, Ariz. Many years ago, there was a penalty on pass plays for "face guarding." What you describe is face guarding. There is no penalty under current NFL rules for this act, unless there is physical contact. If the ball hits the defender, as you describe, the play would be legal. It is dangerous for a defender to turn his back on the direction that the ball is coming from. If he contacts the intended receiver, it would be pass interference because the defender is not playing the ball. You seldom see what you describe, but it would not be a foul.
|
Re: Our offense is Pathetic
yeah, it's only a rule in college now I believe. Stupid cause it's a 100% judgement penalty. Plus...who cares about that play, it didn't affect the game in the end.
The coaching staff is killing this team. They mismanage the clock, take a timeout and then call a 2 yd pass play when they need 3 for the 1st down.
There is a lot of talent on this team but the coaches stink.
UR CLUELESS! |

I had no idea the rule had been changed. Thanks to you & Smoot for setting me straight. |
That's what I thought until I listened closely. I just don't remember him saying something positive about the redskins without also saying something negative.
Dude, he is like that even with the Cowboys. You should have seen the number of threads they have on Cowboys forums about how scared Aikman is of saying something nice about the Cowboys and how he praised McNabb in one of his games. As fans, not excluding myself, we tend to hear what we want to hear. The first half, there were many compliments about JC and how good he is with his decision making after he scored that run TD. He defended him when Woodson some how came up with that "interception" and said it was Moss's fault. |

If anyone made a mistake on that play, and it could have gone either way - it was the refs for not calling it a catch for Randle-El. Plus like I said, even if what you are saying is true - he doesn't say too many good things about the redskins without saying something bad (to sort of negate it). |
Re: Our offense is Pathetic
aikman is a good commentator...better than theisman....too bad I have to credit a cowboy

We've stunk out loud for the most part since 1991. Should he just make up nice things to say? You think Aikman would have been "negating" his positive comments if he was calling the Detroit game last week? I doubt it. He repeatedly complimented our defense yesterday. I offense didn't deserve any credit, and he didn't give us any. Fine by me. |

I see your point, I just do not like the idea of listening to a ex-great Cowboys qb commenting on an entire redskins game. There has to be some bais in there, it's only instinctive. And I do not want his cowboys bais affecting what I think of the redskins - no matter how controlled they seem to be. |
Re: Our offense is Pathetic
Can we get some receivers that can catch? What will we do next year if Santana doesn't get his hands back, McCardell retires, and B Lloyd is on the short bus out of here?

If you touch it you must catch it. Moss deflected up in the air, woodson and ARE came down with it, and for some weird reason the refs gave GB the ball.
Like I said, he said many negative things about the Cowboys as well, he trys not show any lean toward any team. They try not say too many good or bad things about either team. Remeber, Packers as well as Redskins fans watch the game. Fox doesn't want to lose either fan-base and I am sure they strict commentators on how much they can praise or critisize a team. I am talking in general here, not just Aikman. |
