Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
I only said yes because his YPC dictates that he was a better back than Riggins. As much as I loved Riggins, Portis has earned the opportunity to surpass him. I would allow him back for one season to break the record if nothing else. I feel that he deserves that even though he has not been the greatest team mate. He should not have the starting job though unless he earns it in the offseason.
I think he got more then he deserved with his paycheck Angry. He wouldn't even practice or stay in shape for the team. We owe him nothing. |

Excellent points! I am merely saying that if he works hard this offseason then he deservers to break the record. If he comes in like a bitch then he can go out like a bitch, but lets at least give him the opportunity. |
Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
This interview with Stump pretty much confirms it. Portis doesn't give a crap.
"That's the only disappointment that I'll have. The fact that I couldn't persuade Clinton to do it a different way," Mitchell said Monday. "I want Clinton to be the best back in the league. But in order for that to happen, you have to prepare for it. But I don't know if that's what Clinton wants to do." Asked if Portis's practice habits and offseason conditioning have held him back, Mitchell said: "That's a slam dunk. Clinton could've worked harder." "He's got to do that," Mitchell continued, "and [owner Daniel Snyder] has to understand that that's what has to be done. In order for the Redskins to be successful, that's what Clinton has to do. He has to change the way he's done things in the past in order for them to be successful as a team." washingtonpost.com |

This has gone on even when Byner was coaching him. I've been saying it for a long time, CP hurts this team as much, or more than he helps it. All the talent in the world and no work ethic. He does things when the mood strikes him or he wants to prove something and that's it. He's one of the biggest underachievers in the league. What he's done for us in the past, he could have done more. Even Mitchell said he could be the best in the league. He was certainly paid like it. Maybe Shanny can get him going but personally I have no respect for him at all. :twocents: |
Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
After reading Mitchell and Byner's comments I really don't ever want to see CP wear a Redskin uniform ever again. He just got called out by two guys that were the model for professionalism. I mean what can the guy say? He's looks so stupid now. He's lazy, he's a cancer and he doesn't even take his job seriously. The best thing we can do is cut the cord and move on. Improve the line and lets get a back or two in the draft.
I agree, it not's so much, can he do it, but will he do it. It really bothers me that an ultimatum has to be given to a professional athlete to get him to stay in shape and perform at 100%.
this is why i'm so hard on cp and albert. there is no excuse for a pro football player to be out of shape. it's your job to stay in shape yet these guys ( and many othres around the league) are paid big $ for workout bonuses. if i were snyder i would never pay workout bonuses. that way you'd find out who is serious about winning and who isn't. |
Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
i am beginning to think that the uncapped season, the recent unprovoked drama with campbell, stump mitchell calling him lazy, and the coming offensive line change to the zone blocking system is the prefect storm to say goodbye to portis. thoughts?

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
Do I want Portis back next season? Sure. Just as much as I want someone to empty a nail gun into my ass at close range. We want to keep guys like Portis and trade guys like Cooley. Great plan.

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
If we do bring in Turner, as speculated, from Denver, I will be comfortable either way we go with Portis. If there is a tandem that will get him going right, I believe Shanahan/Turner can do that. However, seeing as how they traded him once, I doubt they will put up with much flak from him now.

you do make a good point, and i can't see cooley going anywhere. |
Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
I can't root for somebody like Portis. He's a clown with a mouth that is full of venom that destroys team unity. I'd like to say that he's the Redskin's version of the Wizards' Gilbert Arenas, and he kills with his criticism of other players and coaches, but I won't.

Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
Whats the highest draft pick we could get for just clinton? I'd say a 3rd rounder

Friday night fun? On a serious note, excellent point about Cooley. All these mini-Vinny Cerratos and their crazy Cooley trade proposal drive me nuts. |
Re: Do you want Portis back next season?
Personally, I don't want to see Portis break Riggins' record. Riggins was a team player, and he was somebody you could root for. But Riggins doens't like Snyder and Snyder doesn't like him. So if Clinton comes back to break the record, then look for trouble from him. Of course Clinton might be reading some of these comments about him and he may change because of them. But I still don't want him, even for a second of a game.

Cult, didn't you post Kiper's underclassmen that should stay in the 'late round gem' thread? Take a look at what he says about McKnight, the rb from USC. He doesn't so much say anything about Mcknight, he just says that teams all have rb's now & there's a "surplus." i.e. in this draft you might get a starting back in the 3rd or 4th round or beyond. So I find it hard to fathom that anyone would trade a pick for CP w/his age, salary & other issues. I would expect Shanny is weighing these options too. The main reasons CP might stay are salary & the team has too many needs to draft a rb to replace him. (I do foresee a rb taken in the draft, just not sure he'll be an every down guy) |
