Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
That's almost as much guaranteed as Brady. And a 5 year deal? That's too much money, too many years. I'm happy we extended him, but not for that much.
It will make for interesting television tonight for sure. One thing is certain- if we come out and lay an egg tonight, we'll get blasted (as usual).
I totally agree, this is waaaay to many years and waaaaay too much $. DM is a nice QB but this deal is too big. |

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Well, Mortensen just said that when the details of the contract come out, it will in all likelyhood be about $10-$12M in new money, and the Skins will have the ability to walk away from the deal after 1 or 2 seasons before the rest of this guaranteed money really kicks in. If that's the truth, then I can definitely live with that.
Say what you guys want, but is the BEST move we could have made.
We have invested 2 draft picks in this guy for a 2nd and (3rd or 4th rounder) Now Shanahan can draft his future and Redskins future prospect whoever that will be and groom him behind McNabb. Instead of losing him to Free Agency and finding a way to fill the QB position and waiting for him to learn the offense or Sexy Rexy being our starter,we can now look to address the O-line,WR and what other positions of need in upcoming seasons. GREAT JOB BRUCE!! HTTR
Exactly. This is the right move for the team. The redskins have never had success drafting QBs because of a. lack of stability at coach and b. lack of an O-line. (shuler, ramsey, campell). Even in Gibbs 1 - we won because of the O-line. They made the many QBs look good. (theisman, schrader, williams, rypien) DMAC is smart enough to give us a chance with an incomplete O-line. He's also a positive personality and most importantly a leader. JC never had that leadership quality and DMAC is a unifying force for the team. The knock on him is choking in big games - like an NFC championship of SB. When we get there we can worry about that. With this extension we have a legit QB and a legit coaching staff. We can put in place the O-line through the draft and the playbook which really takes 2-3 years. Once we have an O-line we can draft a young QB who can start 3-4 years from now. |

I don't understand how people can be upset about this. If you don't resign him, you waste two draft picks and are stuck with either sexy rex or a rookie. How is that better? Signing him for five years isn't guaranteeing that he'll start until his contract is up.
Stuck with a rookie? Yeah I guess that wouldn't work out too well... Just look at what the Lions, Rams, Jets, Ravens and Falcons got stuck with. Nahhh, we wouldn't want nothing like that. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
5 years 40 mill is fair if he can stay healthy and play consistent. The incentives are there if he wants to be lights out and take us to the SuperBowl and complete a hand of rings. Will that happen?
I think this is more of a bu$ine$$ move than anything else. They weighed their options of draft availability, need of OL/WR priority, likelihood of getting better player via FA, divided by jersey/tickets sales and the interest of having our first HOF QB retire with the team since ...SONNY? IDK. Now we can get to business. Renovate OL and cast our bait and hope to land WR's in FA and rebuild. HTTR- |

It's a good deal. The offseason crop of FA's blows. Draft...think again.....under contract...BECK It's a good deal |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Mcnabb's actual TD-Int ratio is 7-6. 2 of his INT's were off end of half hail mary's.

Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
If it makes them protect their investment more, i.e., keep more in pass blocking and go less for bombs and more for intermediate routes, I'm all for it.

All teams with much better offensive lines than ours. If bradford was behind the redskins o-line right now, we would be screaming for grossman...we're lucky to have a quarterback like mcnabb who can actually make plays when he's under siege, or else this season looks just like last year. |
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
Just heard Bruce A. saying this deal was offered to DM in October and the goal then was to get it done in the bi week.
|
Re: Redskins and McNabb Agree to Contract Extension
The bi week? Come on dude that can't be for real

Are you saying I need to spell it out as Bye week or that Bruce A did not just say that on the radio? |

None would be ideal, but it's also not realistic for the Redskins. |
