If this move goes down Smith needs to put a blue print together. Give the team direction. Figure out what type of team they want to be.They all need to realize that we're in rebuild mode, and not reload mode.

I personally don't want to see a free agent spending spree because we're not a few players away. Build your team by drafting well before we go down that road again.

He's told way too many people that he does not want to be a defensive coordinator. No, he would not change his mind because he gets along with Smith."

Darnit!

I voted no but I feel this question is more loaded than a yes or no answer can provide. I trust AJ Smith as far as talent evaluation is concerned, but I don't want him if his duties involve most aspects of a GM position. He always had a knack for getting talent in SD, but I feel he did not do a good job of negotiating in good faith with his talented players. How much of that was budget concerns from people above him I do not know, but I don't want him to be a replacement for Bruce Allen. If we are relying on him solely to evaluate talent I am fine with it.

Sounds like Allen isn't going anywhere, so yeah that's the scenario we're most likely looking at.

I'm good with AJ, but Id still like him to bring in someone else as well. Maybe reshape some structure within the scouting department. Kinda shake it up a lil bit.

It needs to be shaken up till it crumbles to the ground and has to get re-built. We need new blood in the GM/Scouting Department.

A.J. Smith should move into the GM role (personnel decisions) and he/the team should hire a new young director of scouting or whatever the position is called to learn from Smith and take over when Smith retired/steps down.

And I mean a young director from a completely different team with a fresh take on scouting/player development.

Bruce Allen shouldn't be making any decisions on what players are on the team, he should just handle contracts and other business management things the team requires.

anything that moves BA further away from picking players and throwing away draft picks sounds like a good idea to me.

This. I think everyone would agree.

Personally, I'd target the Eagles. I feel like almost every year they hit a home run in FA and always seem to reload vs. rebuild through the draft.

Assuming he sobers up and wants to get back into the league Scot McCloughan would be an ideal candidate to get this organization back on track if this latest restructure doesn't pan out. Then again working for Snyder might not be the best scenario for someone fresh off a 12 step program.

McCloughan worked for the 49ers and Seahawks (The two most talented teams in the league) and was involved in drafting guys like Vernon Davis, Patrick Willis, Joe Staley, Richard Sherman, and Russell Wilson.

He has his demons but also does have an eye for talent.

AJ Smith running the scouting department and selecting the players will be good for the Redskins. Jay Gruden needs a veteran DC to balance out the lack of experience on this staff. I would like to have a guy like Norton but the inexperience in the role with this media market would set them up for failure.

I also think Phillips would keep the linebacker coaches who have done well this season.

I couldn't confirm it before, but Ian Rapaport is reporting that the Redskins did indeed reach out to former 49ers GM Scott Mcloughlan. Don't know what the result was

He need to come in here and replace Scott Campbell now. I'd drink to that.

Think we need to update the thread title and add "Real"
