I think a lot of you are taking London Fletcher for granted. Guys gonna be 34 this season and obviously he isn't getting younger. If Willis really is a legit starting RT (and ironically in seeing the Seahawks/Cowboys game he seemed to be one of two guys that wasn't getting his ass handed to him) then that will free us up to draft Maualgua use him as an OLB and groom him for the MLB spot. I think right now the best COA (course of action) is as follows:
- Call Evans right now and work out a contract - Sign Willis to about 3 million per year, backloaded contract of course - Draft Maualuga - Draft a C/G Prospect in the third round
Me likey... although I won't complain if we grab Oher/Smith w/ the 13th pick but I think it leaves us a little unsettled at LB even if we do bring in Crowell ... btw I rewatched video of Rey last night... holy shit man, that's all i can say, holy shit. |
Re: Jason Taylor Released
no they mean Mandatory stuff.

Re: Jason Taylor Released
Like BHA said, I would rather draft Oher or A Smith than sigining Ray Willis if we are taking only 4 OTs, Samuels @ LT and draft @ RT while Jansen and Heyer are the backups. But if we do sign Ray Willis and draft say Oher, then we might as well cut Jansen and take the hit or take 5 OTs in the 53 man roster.
First off I wouldn't believe a word of anything that goofball JLC writes. Second, Haven't we seen enough of Heyer already to know he can't be a starting RT?
Uhhhh no. He was pushed into duty as an undrafted free agent his rookie season. Last year, he played one game at RT before going down with an injury. The rest of the year, he played at LEFT tackle when Samuels went down. So we havent seen anything from Heyer yet. Hes entering his third year and the only thing he has shown is that he's one heck of a backup who has improved leaps and bounds every year and hes a guy. He was never, ever humiliated when playing LT. In all honesty, he did ok there, although we would never want him to start there. All Heyer has done is get better and succeed at everything he's been asked to do. He's dirt cheap and has a ton of upside. However, in the end, we someone who can start at left takle so Samuels can move right. |

heyer gets handled alot tho. true story.

You said you hadnt heard anyone say Heyer could be a "legit starter." I was just pointing out that several people inside the organization think he can be an "above average" starter. The RI article says others disagree - but it doesnt specify whether they disagree that he can start or that he can be "above average." Ive still yet to see any quotes from any within the Seahawks organization about what potential they see in Willis. JLC mentioned him as a possibility (Zorn connection) and all of a sudden, everyone has decided this guy is our future RT without knowing anything about the guy other than that he started a few games last year. Considering how important OTs are, you would think if Seattle really valued this guy, theyd be trying their best to work something out with him. Thus far, theyve shown no such interest. And no other teams have been reported to be looking at this guy as a starting option. That, inofitself, is more than enough to tell me this guy may have potential, but right now, hes just Seattles version of Stephon Heyer. If we werent dragging jansens dead weight, a very good argument could be made for bringing him on board - Two young OTs with starting experience is better than one. Unfortunately, were stuck with Jansen for the time being and unless we have no intention of drafting an OT with the 13th pick in the draft, theres simply not room for Willis on our roster. |

agreed. Blades was horrible at OLB last year. Hes far too small to be our starting OLB, especially with another small guy in the middle. Blades may or may not end up being Fletcher 2.0, but one things for sure - we need one starting OLB and probably two new backup LBs or we're going to be in trouble. |

Well as of this minute, Blades is a projected starter (along with Chris Wilson). We need to make a move to fix those holes sooner rather than later. |

From what I recall, Blache actually likes Matt Sinclair a lot as a backup MLB. He got hurt last summer so they had to cut him and I think he's an UFA now. But I'm guessing he joins us for training camp and maybe works his way onto the roster as Fletch's backup. |

I heard Clayton talk highly of Willis recently, if Heyer was a FA I just doubt we would be hearing very much talk of him being seen as a starter, at least at this point in time. Seattle already has a starter at RT so I'm guessing that's why they aren't in a rush to re-sign him especially at starter type money that he's looking for. |

Re: Jason Taylor Released
Well, we'd be fine starting Blades, who is a better player than McIntosh, but Chris Wilson can't be an everydown player.
You know, you'd think since we bothered to hold Erasmus James through the entire season last year, we would have kept him on into this year...but no. |
Re: Jason Taylor Released
I'm of the opinion that Heyer has great fundamentals and can start in this league, but he's just so unbelievably raw. It's incredible if he has to run a toss play or kick out the backer or something he just has no idea where the player is.
That's the thing, is that Heyer only has one more year to show progress in that aspect, or he becomes too costly to keep around. |

James is out there if we want him!
I did notice that about McIntosh, but Blades was a beast all year (given of course the fact that he didn't play much in the first few weeks before Washington's injury). He's a fantastic young prospect -- although I wouldn't want to see him chasing a tight end across the field ever again. Moving Rocky to SLB should simplify the reads for him a bit, which might help him produce, but I think 2009 is it for him here. He's a non-tender candidate after this year. Blades is a candidate for a long term deal if he improves this year, I think. |

It's interesting though, unless Jansen bumps inside, we currently don't have a backup Guard or Center under contract, outside of Rinehart. If Clark can handle, say, Right Guard, he might have a future. At tackle, no. I would not send Alexander back to the offensive side under any circumstances. He's a bad blocker, and has no redeeming qualities. But as a defensive player, he can play the 3 shade or the nose equally well (although we go three deep at the nose now), and has very good skills. |

Whatever delusions you have about Willis, you have no evidence to make your "bottom line" point that Heyer isnt a starting OT in this league. Heyer is supposed to be a RT and he's never had significant playing time there since his rookie season... when he impressed. Considering he had to play LT in place of a pro-bowler last year, i would say he was pretty darn impressive last year too. We have some in the organizaiton who think he can be. others have doubts, but no one has indicated theres no way hes a starting RT - so how in the world did you reach that conclusion? |
agreed. Im not expecting much from either of them in 2010 though. Both would be lucky to make the active roster at any point during the season. Tuna Master Plan. Knowing the Skins would bite. Taylor was used as a spy and a draft pick burglar................ I don't know after 21 pages of Jason Taylor Released it's all I got left :)............... It would be interesting if he ended up back in Miami.

Most players don't play as well out of position and Heyer is no exception. His best position is RT. In a recent interview Buges said Heyer can be as good as he wants to be. He also said he had come a long way since he first got here and had trouble adjusting to his own size at first. I don't know if he had a late growth spurt or what but that's what he said. I think he deserves a shot. I still see nothing wrong with taking a quality OT in the draft. If Heyer is not as good as the rookie he is still a valuable back up. |

I think they have done a really good job with the three signings so far, kudos to Dan/Vinny and the FO. Yes of course impulsive isn't out of the question, Dan Snyder is the owner. But for what reason would you think they don't have 'any plans'...? Explain. All the other moves have been well thought/planned out, expect Dock he became available unexpectedly and happened to be an area of need for the team. I totally disagree with the they don't have 'any plans' for the next move. I'm quite sure they have a solid game plan for the next move or moves in the FA market. |

34 years old 09 season. No thanks. He hasnt been able to play a full season in three years. 06 - 10 games 07 - 9 games 08 - 14 games He does get some sacks though 13.5 in three years. FA's are looking a little weak. |
