This really can't happen this quickly. It just doesn't make sense from the Broncos' perspective. Why would they take any deal now instead of spending the next few weeks trying to drive up the market? We're not going to learn anything anytime soon. Let's all hope that one of these other teams overwhelms them with compensation we can't match. But who, other than El Snyder, would do that?

Re: Broncos to trade Cutler

The only way I'm going to like this is if we get additional picks with Cutler. If we get their first in exchange for ours and then come away with a 2nd rounder I wouldn't mind whoever is QB. None of that will happen however because that's extremely lopsided.

My only hope is that we come away with additional picks in this year's draft. God bless Campbell for putting up with this kind of crap, professionally speaking.

Well they are idiots in the Broncos FO too, Denver could get the #1 overall pick from the Lions (among other things), they could get Brady Quinn, Shaun Rogers and a ton of picks from Cleveland, they could get a lot of picks from the Jets, etc., etc. But they are going to want to send him to the NFC, and since stupid Danny wants him, they'll trade him for less.
Yeah, that seems odd.

They interviewed Campbell, who as you mentioned is at the game. I love his classy response - "That's just he business end of the game. I'm not worried about all that. I'm just preparing to have what I think will be my best season as a pro."

Did you hear that Cutler? That's how a man handles these things.
I'm sure behind the scenes Jason wants to know exactly what's going on, but he's handling it in house, which is exactly where it should stay.
I caught the tail end where he said that he's not worried and knows what he can deliver for the team, what he can offer in 5-10 years, etc

great responses, I honestly think that cutler probably has a better future ahead of him than campbell, but I love the way that campbell interviews... interviews don't win games, but he's the type of guy that you can always rely on to keep things the way that they should be
Wow...just wow. I think the FO has already bungled this thing, maybe beyond repair as far as JC's future in Washington is concerned. I mean the difference between us and NY Jets/Tampa Bucs is we have a guy set to be the starting QB...much more complicated. Those teams can pursue w/o necessarily throwing a current member of the franchise under the bus.

...personally I think this is so unfair to JC and if the FO is stupid enough to blow up the offense again i hope Campbell has tremendous success wherever he lands. I'll never support Cutler here seeing how he's handled himself...ever.

Dude, you're kidding right. According to NFL.com just about 65% of people who voted in the Denver VS Cutler poll agreed with Cutler....and so do I.
I'll welcome him with open arms. Sometime in the near future, maybe not next year you will be in full support of Cutler (If he lands with the skins)
I feel bad about letting JC go if this is true but the fact of the matter is that when you get a chance to land a true franchise QB you take it. Some people will say that JC and Cutler are just 2 points apart on QB rating, well the fact of the matter is Cutler threw for an extra 1,000 yards and most of his interceptions were when the team was behind. Either way I think it's clear that Cutler is the superior QB.

Part of me is excited about this if it's true, but I don't want to lose any of our core guys with Cooley and Landry.

Also if this is true I think the team is now looking back on the guys they missed. Opting for Brunell over Warner and even Campbell over Brees in 2006.
Re: Broncos to trade Cutler
It's getting really difficult to defend this team. In the past, we've been willing to sacrifice depth at critical positions by trading draft picks for players who, while perhaps looking good on paper, couldn't come in and play right guard in late November after injuries had thinned the roster. This willingness to forgo depth in order to bring in older guys, rather than merely the signing of free agents, has been the problem. This year, although many were quick to describe our free agency binge as certain to yield predictable results, I argued that coupled with a renewed focus on the draft, adding key players at positions of need was not the same old Redskins.

If this goes down, and that's a big if, this is worse than the same old Skins. Worse than Deion Sanders, worse than anything. Nothing against Cutler, who appears to be a genuine talent, but this team has needs he can't fix. Last year through 8 games, Jason Campbell was being discussed as a potential MVP candidate. When the offense line predictably fell apart with injuries, the entire execution of the offense unraveled. It appeared to be clear to even the most casual NFL fan: fix the offensive line and then you'll see what you have at QB.

In trading for Cutler, we are postponing our ability to fix and replenish the line through the draft so far into the future that you have to wonder if it can ever actually happen with this team. More importantly, we are signaling to anyone paying attention that through 12 years of bumbling front-office ineptitude, we have not learned a single thing. In bailing on the QB he drafted and groomed, I think the Skins are saying all that needs to be said about the stability that Joe Gibbs brought back here.

Very good post. However if let's say Gibbs was still here. Would he feel the same way after watching average QB play the last two years? Remember Gibbs tried to trade for Elway and he was active in bringing in free agents. In the end I see what the FO is doing even though I may not agree with them. They're thinking Cutler has the ability to make everyone around him better so why not try to improve the position? Some of us may not want to admit it but Cutler is simply a better Qb than JC is. If reports are correct, they want a starting QB, a starting defensive player AND a high draft pick(s)?!...WTF? That's just too high a price to pay when we ..
1.) already have a capable QB in place..
2.) have a second year guy in Colt that they seem to love.
3.) have major needs at OLB, RT, C/G
Tell Denver to go suck a fat one!!. Denver is the team in a bind with a player who wants out and they have already stated they are gonna trade him....why should we overpay in that situation?

I know this is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but let's say that we trade our first rounder and Jason Campbell for Cutler. Giving up the #13 is a lot for us since we only have four picks, and we cannot bring in a young star (good-bye oher, maulauga, etc., etc.). Yet getting Campbell and the #13 is probably less than what other teams would be able to give Denver.

McDaniels has the opportunity to pull the Herschel Walker trade and get a ton of picks from the Jets, Browns, and/or the Bucs. Yet he's going to send Cutler to Washington for lesser compensation (lesser to the Broncos compared with what they could get from these other teams; yet this compensation will be a big price to pay for Washington), just so he is out of the AFC.

Whats with up the Skins FO and their propensity to trade away picks. I thought the plan was to use the picks and build a team and manage our cap well. We traded away 2 picks for Jason Taylor and got fkd by Parcells in the process, now it seems likely that we are chasing Cutler  and the madness goes on. I thought we were turning the corner for the better but nope, we are going around in circles. I can understand why we have been ridiculed by the league. Snyder, Cerratto whoever is running the show should be jailed for incompetency.

I think any thing we trade for Cutler, except a straight up player trade (which won't happen), is a lot for us given the holes we have. However, I feel that a desperate (for a QB) team like the Jets could offer more than the Redskins could offer.

We've been trying to get a 2nd rounder (damn you Jason Taylor!!) for a while now. I know for sure we've dangled Santana Moss out there, and I'm almost positive we dangled Rogers out there as well.

I'm not as down on Cutler as others are, so under the right circumstances, I'm not going to flip a lid if he came here. That said, I still don't think this is where he ultimately ends up (that's just my opinion though). But either way, I don't think Campbell is the future here. I don't agree with it, I think it will be a mistake to let him go. But, as much as Redskins coaches and execs may sing his praises in public, the truth is he has limited support (even from teammates) since even before he got hurt two seasons ago. His biggest supporter is now...the QB coach in Seattle.

Could be the case yeah.. didn't hear much on the Moss offering.. I know it's a strong backfield division but when some say Moss is now the #1 receiver in the division, shame you prob couldn't get a 2nd rounder for him

I'm starting to think that Dan Snyder is a longtime business partner of Jerry Jones and has been sabotaging the Skins from the inside since he was assigned owner of the Redskins.

Other than that I can't come up with any other reasons why we do the most obnoxiously dense moves with our front office.

maybe we were just testing value in case we needed to clear more room for haynesworth or anything else potential

I think cutler's cap number is around 1 mil this year, so unless we decided to give him a new contract we could make that happen with a few small cuts, ones that are bound to happen eventually anyways

wonder what denver's cap hit would be

When it comes to the skins and trades, I always feel like any team trading with us are Nino Brown and the Redskins are Pookie! They dangle the goods, the skins do anything to get them! We always get pimped in trades....errrr im so sick of this already.

Here is a good trade though..Cutler to the Jets for the Jets #1, Gholston and Clemons...? Seems pretty fair to me.
Cutler is a very very nice QB but there are so many other teams with much worse options than JC that somebody has to step up and save us from ourselves.
Where's rehab?
