What if Cleveland offers WR-KR Cribbs and a 3rd ? I doubt they would add a draft pick , as far as Cooley , we should trade any player if we get more than what they are worth .

Let me preface my response to you by saying that it's unlikely Cooley will get us a high enough draft pick to warrant trading him anyway. Without knowing the particulars of Shanahan's offense, he might be too vital to let go anyhow. It's probably just not going to happen. But [I]if[/I] it does, here's why we should consider it...

-- Yes, Cooley has been highly productive, but even with his production, what has that meant to us in the overall efficiency of our offense? Obviously not much.

-- Your last statement about TEs 'helping out' our WR corp to be more explosive is counter-intuitive. If anything, we've seen that relying on TEs [I]takes away [/I]from an emphasis on wide receivers; making our offense more controlled, moderate, and incapable of being "explosive." Now, you might say that Shanahan will find a way to compensate for that, incorporating the TE effectively without turning him into nothing more than a safety valve, but Davis clearly is a player who can make this happen.

-- Finally, and most importantly, we have way too many holes on this team to be stocked at the tight end position. You can go up and down just about every position and there's a glaring need. The best teams in the league build their rosters by loading up on draft picks from rounds 3 through 5. We already have two less than the normal complement of draft picks.

If an offer comes along that's attractive enough, and I doubt it will, but if it does, I think you'll see that Allen and Shanahan might consider it.

Actually their production was pretty similar in terms of catches per game, in fact I think Cooley edged him out in that area.

And the post you were responding to was from about a week before Cooley got hurt, so FD was still unproven at that point.

I like your thinking, but
A) I wouldn't trade Cooley, he's one of the few good players on Offense we have to build from.
B) the last time we brought in a great return man, he returned only one punt for a TD in the last four years, and has had more fair catches than return yards.
His name Antwaan Randle El...
I have a feeling that Cribbs might be the same here.

I love Cooley, big time. But we have lots of issues, and trading him for picks like that, or even a good offensive lineman, is the start we need to get things rolling the right way. Davis looked pretty good, and you don't really need to TE that can catch the ball. Trade him while he has value to us and someone else. Although it will hurt to see him go.

When was the last time a team gave up something like a first and another pick for an aging player and didn't get ripped off? Dallas got jobbed on Roy Williams, Philadephia sure didn't get value out of Jason Peters (although I still think that was a good trade), Seymour was good for Oakland but not worth the price, Deion Branch to the Seahawks was a bust. Jarret Allen is the only one I can think of off the top of my head that worked out for the team acquiring the player (and even there, KC got a solid lineman out of the deal). Doesn't recent history suggest that you should pretty much always trade a veteran for a first round pick?

A first and 3rd for cooley would be more than fair. Cooley rocks, but you need multiple picks soon. Portis pre concussion would have been the #1 guy for trade bait status, but now I am not too sure folks would want him. Chris broke an ankle, easier to deal with, and not a potential long term problem. In short, Cooley is probably the only serviceable player we have in terms of trade bait.

The most we'd get for Cooley is a 2nd....Carlos Rogers is probably the best trade bait weve got right now. with the FA market of CB hes rated #1...He'd get us a 1st or Multiple picks maybe 2nd & 3rd

I don't know. With a system where we will most likely be leaving CB's on an island Rogers will probably prove to be valuable. Still I guess for a 1st I would do it.

And he's a player that would want to leave the Redskins, and a player that we could realistically find a trading partner. Still, trading a player is ging to be challenging with the uncertainty after the 2010 season.

if blache and grey were still here, then yea, but with a new defensive coaching staff and system, he [B][U]may [/U][/B]want to stay. i wouldn't mind if he stayed, he has shown flashes of being a pretty good cover corner. i'm not sure if he's as bad as he seemed to be at times or if it was the coaches using him the wrong way.

I'd take a second and fourth for Cooley and throw AH in for free. On the AC thread a few members are asking... why didn't we trade Portis ,Moss, or AC while they still had value. Cooley is an upper echelon TE, but for how much longer.

No one wanted Portis's gigantic contract. He was practically untradable.

As long as we continue to struggle as a team, and Cooley has a manageable, tradeable contract and performs decently enough...he will always be trade bait. It just makes sense to dangle him out there

Captain Chaos will stay a skin if he wants. But anything is possible we've yet to talk with SMoss to renew his contract so who knows.
